dazk, I cannot get the quote feature to work on mobile anymore. Ugh. That was a bug that left you with no crew. I didn’t experience that in my game. Upgrading your gear every level is expensive. I only upgrade if my stuff starts falling way behind the bounty hunters. I also use whichever gear I find. In the end, I’ll upgrade, engrave and customize all of my legendaries, but it’s too expensive early. It uses up resources, not just drachmae.

Yeah my mobile hates BSN, it only lets me see messages not notifications and navigating threads is almost impossible. Good to know it was a bug, shame I wasted all that time recruiting every man and his dog to fill the crew up. My love hate relationship with the game continues. Did Port Nisaia today, should have been easy trying to trap the beacon I got spotted and melee ensued, lots and lots of melee and then mercenaries lots of mercenaries as someone lit the beacon. Aaaaaaggghhhhhh Got through it ok 2nd time round but it was slow and arduous. Got my first Legendary piece today Theseus's braces. Finally got an epic bow.

When you talk about Assassin Gear and Warrior gear do you mean the bonuses you get for Assassin etc on the armour? I am not sure why but I am way heapy in damage Assassin wise, its like 5 times Warrior and Hunter but I don't have any major bonuses for Assassin on hardly anything. I assumed it was because they were the main skills I had invested in. Yes, the different % bonuses on the gear, when stacked, shift your damage quite a bit. Right now I am going for items with "crit chance when Health is full" and am engraving extra critical damage on my gear. Reason is that when you sneak around your Health naturally is full and the "when HP is full" bonus is usually double compared to the regular critical bonus that is active without a prerequisite. There rarely is a boss now that I can't assassinate with 1 hit if it crits while using the 2 upgrades of the "Critical assassination" ability and the assassination damage boost passives. Just got to 24 and unlocked the "Shadow of Nyx" skill - the top Assassin tree skill. Oh, boy, oh, boy, oh, boy... Sneaking just got AWESOME.
It can be a chore to switch gear if you plan to mix your fighting approach, but I just stick to Hunter and Assassin routes so far. Hunter gear with 10 % damage engravings for a headshot feels like cheating sometimes because you can easily use it even while swarmed with enemies, Combined with the Assassin skill that slows time it gets even better. Right now I am approaching the armor swaps like I am an ancient ninja - a spy with many disguises, sneaking quietly in the shadows, striking unseen. Feels even more epic when you get to the level where falling down doesn't damage you at all.
And on another note - damn! I just had to pay 17 000 gold to an NPC on the main quest route. "You killed my people, pay up"... Riiiiight. I killed one of your people. ONE! And he attacked first. And I was totally going to Spartan kick him unconscious but then got a huge bloody crit with my staff on him. Gotta invest in paralyzing arrows, lesson learned. Oh, btw, just found how awesome staffs are. Was going with daggers, but now my love are staffs.

I'm currently at level 6 getting ready to start the Fancy Quests quest. I've played about 7.5 hours. Not really. 3 of those hours were sleeping. The beginning of the game is good for catching up on sleep. Anyways. A couple of annoyances I wanted to mention. When at a spot to find treasure, I scan the area. It pings saying there is something close by. As bright as the scene is, it can be hard to see where that treasure or rather the marker is. I was at one location grabbing all the stuff while trying to find the loot. I would scan getting pings, but it was stuff that I already looted. I guess respawn happens once the player is far enough away. The other thing is the orange bar at the top of the screen. I like for it to disappear once all the baddies are dealt with. It seem silly that I have to stay crouched for however long believing there is another baddie somewhere nearby. It's too bad I can't have the bird divebomb onto a baddie plucking out an eye or both of them.
Since its football Saturday, I will only put up with the game for a few hours. If those few hours don't impress me that much, I might let the game collect dust until I decide to continue at a later date. I did get a smile when I looted this footware. After wearing them for a few minutes I changed to better footware

I'm playing as Kassandra. Finally left the starter island. Initially picked up the bounty for merchant ships and then thought; wtf, they're civilian ships. What idiot would want trade to die off? Reloaded and simply headed for the mainland. I chose not to acknowledge Nikolaus as the father and said his children died. Kassandra raging although in truth, as a Spartan, she would understand why her father did what he did.

Alright, I feel like I've played enough to give more thoughts on said game and I'll give a little detailed walk through.
Combat still seems iffy at times, parry inputs don't always work being the big one. I've given up hopes of using the bow, it sucks and if I need to upgrade things to make it more viable then I'm just not going to use it besides for distractions. I'm a big fan of using the sword and spear tip but I've a question for someone who may know. It looks like I could duel wield 2 one handed weapons, I used a sword in one hand and a dagger in the other, but once I leave the menu it still shows one weapon and the spear tip instead of the two swords I picked. W/E I'll just use my Spartan sword 🤷
I also think I've learned what the scale meaning for dialogue choices, it seems it's just a random chance that it works, something the game should've elaborated on. I had no problem figuring out the heart and crossed swords however. I'm also under the assumption you can't bolster the chance of a scale choice working, it seems purely random. That or it's just a lie option and the npc either believes you or they don't.
The VA is still putrid but I'm expecting that the rest of the way till the end. That said the main story itself shows improvement in this.
As for my playthrough: I've put about 21 (lvl 16 Kassandra) hours into the game by now and I'm pretty much done with Phokis now, I just killed elpanor last night and finished wrapping up the last few ? Marked areas. So far I haven't noticed any choices really mattering, but I did have the oracle mention me letting a family be murdered on starter island (plague victims in the burned down village) and cursing me to receive Apollo's wrath. I don't know if I'll get much time to play this weekend since I'm at work and I'm on call and since it's starting to get cold, then my callout chances goes up. I'll probably be sleeping more than playing. I do like the game, but I sorry burnout may happen at some point to where I won't finish it. It's such a BIG game and I've already had to back track, eventually that'll wear on me, especially with such poor quality voice acting.
Regarding my choices I've made so far:
I let a plague victim family be murdered, I let step father live, I told phoebe I'd be back to visit her (after killing elpanor I have a hunch I'll probably see her again since it turns out she led elpanor to your protagonist) I took the aggressive approach to storming the oracle of pyrias home and that's all I can remember off the top of my head. I'm also banging everyone I possibly can cause why not right? It doesn't seem like it restricts you to one person only. Speaking of which, I helped this old women get an elixer to spice things up with her man, only for him to say he can't keep going on that way lol. He appreciated my Kassandra spending the day (literally) meeting her needs and paid me for it. That scene was awesome, it jumps through different times of the day as the old man plays his banjo/interacts with other friends and bystanders while his wife and Kassandra do the deed, that old lady has a lot of energy 😂.
Out of curiosity, is Phokis like a small sample of the storyline? The game doesn't show how much progression you have done, but if phokis is like 10% of the game then I have a long way to go.

Herodotus has another destination in mind for the critical path, but I have made a stop on Euboea. I’ve collected another pelt of a mythical creature and located/killed some more cultists. This island seems lightly populated and has at least one nice town. It’s been enjoyable exploring it so far. I killed the local leader in a public market and got mobbed. I made it to “four helmets” in the bounty list, and killed three mercs who came to collect. I still haven’t been partaking in the Conquest Battles. I’ve stayed out of politics thus far, killing only as it serves my purpose. Once conditions are ripe, there’s a narrow window in which battles are available. I have yet to rush to participate, though I know the rewards are good. I suspect I’ll do much more rarely than devs had planned. They simply aren’t important if I have no allegiance in the war. ShadowAngel, the second weapon slot is not for dual wielding. It allows you to equip and carry a second primary weapon. You can swap between them at any time. Some weapons are better against some foes, and each type has its unique overpower attack, so it’s good to have options.

Funny you mentioning that since it was a feature in Origins. Well, not the eyes thing, but actually ordering the bird to attack and distract. It's in odyssey as well. When you unlock 30 or so viewpoints the eagle starts attacking enemies in combat and can be ordered to harass an enemy. 30 more viewpoints and it starts damaging them too.

Spoilers of events immediately following the Hot Gates of Thermopylai. A grumble about immersion and realism. Having reached the Hot Gates of Thermopylai I'm tasked with sailing to the island of Andros. But hang on, the Adrestia is docked and waiting for me, how in Zeus' name did that happen? I left it in Pilgrim's Landing, how did it get there, fly? There's no way Barnabas would have taken it around the coast, he starts whining incessantly as soon as he feels you are in 'dangerous waters'. So for reasons of immersion I had to ignore the ship waiting for me and headed back to Pilgrim's Landing where I left it. Then I took the ship the proper way around the coastline. This is AC Odyssey, not AC Short-cut. (and I haven't used Fast travel yet).

Unless you want a game that will keep you busy for the next several years Lots of traveling without fast travel.

For someone who has never touched any AC game but knows what it's about more or less, could I just pick it up (AC history/lorewise) ? I find that this setting appeals to me.

I hate that cleared quests stay on the compass thing as well it just adds clutter. I feel I am at the same point as you with the game, I love so much of it but there is stuff such as the above that make me think oh stuff it and give up. Going to push the story ahead today to try and get hooked and get some clarity around what Kassandra is supposed to actually be doing in this world.

So I figure what the hell I'll just start sinking everything and after sinking about 8 ships and boarding some I notice I have sunk 3 of the requisite ships but I sail around for another 20 minutes and there are nothing but fishing boats and Athenian warships so abandoned the quest. I mad the same choice with Kassandras dialogue.

Yeah, you absolutely don't need any prior knowledge to enjoy this one. The modern era segments might not be really clear, but they are so short that it won't matter. Basically a big evil corporation with ancient roots wants to enslave the world and is out to get us and our research.

I mad the same choice with Kassandras dialogue. The message board quests are usually repeatable, especially the timed ones. You don't have to rush to finish them since you probably do them anyway by just playing the game. I ignore the timed ones and just collect the others. I got loads but I don't even look at what they require. It's the usual "kill 10 of that or that or that". Sometimes I just get a message that I finished them Btw, your eagle shows what the ships are, but the sails also give you a hint.

So other than my post about the naval mission I posted about above I have some grumblings about the game yesterday. Why is there a level 39 Mercenary running around Megaris trying to kill me when I am Level 10? I tried to take down a level 14 Merc and her dog bit me 3 times and I died. What the hell am I supposed to be doing in this game? I think I need to push the story some more as I found myself completely confused yesterday, sometimes people seem to attack me for no reason, Spartans and Athenians. Just roaming around doing a quest and someone goes hostile on me yet I have no unpaid fines or whatever they are. How is that I kill a random soldier where no one can see and suddenly a whole Spartan fort 100 metres away empties to chase and hunt me? This seriously happened yesterday. I killed a guard at the back of a house and the whole nearby fort which had no line of site to where I was emptied and came looking for me. Combat is getting easier but on PC when you hit 1 to 4 the ability does not always fire, its very annoying and I have now had to start hitting the key several times. Having used these same keys in MEA for 16 PT's I am comfortable that its not me. Parry was easy when I started but now seems to be random against some enemies. Fighting a group and parrying quite fine but then against one guy couldn't parry anything at all. Mercenaries, do they have mobile phones? Taking down a port fort/castle and no beacon was lit and all of sudden 4 mercenaries joined the fight? Given half the port still didn't know I was there and had killed half their comrades how did the mercenaries know? Anyway sounds like a whinge and it is but I am still enjoying the game, I just feel a bit directionless and am getting frustrated with some of the silly antics of the mechanics.

I took a message board quest yesterday, my first naval mission to sink some pirate ships for a mercenary who actually had taken the contract but didn't have a ship. Get on the boat sail out and ………………….. NOTHING. No area is marked, no boats have a marker above them to indicate they are said pirate ships and I am like WTF. I was looking at the sails and they were either fishermen or Athenian there were no others that I could see, Ikaros I am so stupid, however it was late in the day and the last thing I was going to do but still deserves a in my defence I played AC BF way too much and the targets always had markers on them, no eagle back then.

Odd chioice, but good to know. With 60 viewpoints, we'll use it mostly in the dlcs.

Both sides are fighting over a parcel of land. I don't know how you play the game but perhaps it's a decision based reaction from the rep from the tutorial island, or perhaps what you did on the main land. If none of those, then it's the wandering goats who meeehhh ehhh what you did to the Spartans. Or the vengeful chickens. On the ship bounties, you have to use the eagle to spot the ships.

Anyway sounds like a whinge and it is but I am still enjoying the game, I just feel a bit directionless and am getting frustrated with some of the silly antics of the mechanics. Well, I got attacked by a chicken once Thing is some city areas (houses, warehouse, tea house, etc) are considered hostile zones (red bars) and you don't always figure it out before trespassing. Especially if you just horse around Sometimes it's just a stupid garden in the open with like 2 guards and everyone else seems to get a free pass trampling in it, but not you, oh, no, not you.
I am yet to see a Merc with more than 3 levels above me. Don't know how you got a level 39 And I haven't had a fort to go after me like that. Line of sight works fine in my case. I use the keys on my mouse and I do notice a bit of lag sometimes in activating the skills too. I suspect some abilities need you to hold the button just a bit and some don't. Or I just imagine it.
And yes, Mercs have a GPS tracker on you, deal with it They will come on your tail as soon as you even get near a red zone. You might think you are out of the woods, but just kick a chicken and they will swoop on you from the sky. Doesn't matter if nobody saw you, they know you are there.
And seriously, wild cats are OP as f**k. I saw a wild cat own a lion and a bear. Will totally tame one when I feel like getting that skill.
