So other than my post about the naval mission I posted about above I have some grumblings about the game yesterday. Why is there a level 39 Mercenary running around Megaris trying to kill me when I am Level 10? I tried to take down a level 14 Merc and her dog bit me 3 times and I died. What the hell am I supposed to be doing in this game? I think I need to push the story some more as I found myself completely confused yesterday, sometimes people seem to attack me for no reason, Spartans and Athenians. Just roaming around doing a quest and someone goes hostile on me yet I have no unpaid fines or whatever they are. How is that I kill a random soldier where no one can see and suddenly a whole Spartan fort 100 metres away empties to chase and hunt me? This seriously happened yesterday. I killed a guard at the back of a house and the whole nearby fort which had no line of site to where I was emptied and came looking for me. Both sides are fighting over a parcel of land. I don't know how you play the game but perhaps it's a decision based reaction from the rep from the tutorial island, or perhaps what you did on the main land. If none of those, then it's the wandering goats who meeehhh ehhh what you did to the Spartans. Or the vengeful chickens. On the ship bounties, you have to use the eagle to spot the ships. LOL I had a chicken attack me yesterday for some reason.

I killed a guard at the back of a house and the whole nearby fort which had no line of site to where I was emptied and came looking for me. Combat is getting easier but on PC when you hit 1 to 4 the ability does not always fire, its very annoying and I have now had to start hitting the key several times. Having used these same keys in MEA for 16 PT's I am comfortable that its not me. Parry was easy when I started but now seems to be random against some enemies. Fighting a group and parrying quite fine but then against one guy couldn't parry anything at all. Mercenaries, do they have mobile phones? Taking down a port fort/castle and no beacon was lit and all of sudden 4 mercenaries joined the fight? Given half the port still didn't know I was there and had killed half their comrades how did the mercenaries know? Anyway sounds like a whinge and it is but I am still enjoying the game, I just feel a bit directionless and am getting frustrated with some of the silly antics of the mechanics. Well, I got attacked by a chicken once Thing is some city areas (houses, warehouse, tea house, etc) are considered hostile zones (red bars) and you don't always figure it out before trespassing. Especially if you just horse around Sometimes it's just a stupid garden in the open with like 2 guards and everyone else seems to get a free pass trampling in it, but not you, oh, no, not you.
I am yet to see a Merc with more than 3 levels above me. Don't know how you got a level 39 And I haven't had a fort to go after me like that. Line of sight works fine in my case. I use the keys on my mouse and I do notice a bit of lag sometimes in activating the skills too. I suspect some abilities need you to hold the button just a bit and some don't. Or I just imagine it.
And yes, Mercs have a GPS tracker on you, deal with it They will come on your tail as soon as you even get near a red zone. You might think you are out of the woods, but just kick a chicken and they will swoop on you from the sky. Doesn't matter if nobody saw you, they know you are there.
And seriously, wild cats are OP as f**k. I saw a wild cat own a lion and a bear. Will totally tame one when I feel like getting that skill.
I got attacked by a chicken for the first time yesterday and was like LOL. Still not sure why though!!!! I also cannot believe civilians would attack an armed merc with bits of wood, that happened to me yesterday when I took out a leader without thinking in the open. I felt bad to have to kill several of them. Hell past AC games would have desynched you for that. oooh haven't seen a wild cat yet, I killed a merc. L14 (I am 10) that had a Lion yesterday and one with a dog also attacked me, the dog bit me 3 times and I died I'll see if can grab a screenshot today of the merc riding around Megris who is level 39. The Merc system really irritates me, I hope they tone it down at least, I don't play the game to engage in combat 50% of my play time.

dazk, there’s an option to remove completed locations from the map. Just toggle through them and you’ll see it.

I finally got to doing some naval combat. Not bad. Upgrading the ship will help. I couldn't stop laughing when I get the option to knockout a siolder, or whoever, to be part of my crew. If not, I can kill the character if I choose. I know it's a video game, but still. I would like to see the character put up more of fuss then just walking off to be part of the crew. Speaking of crew. Where's a good location to recruit sailors? I have more than enough Lieutenants.

I hate to have to use it, but I’ll need better lieutenants at some point. Your main crew doesn’t increase or decrease as it did in Black Flag/Rogue. You can get different skins for your crew, changing their appearance, but that’s it. (If you use an all-women crew the shanties are sung by women. One immersion-breaking issue avoided, I guess.)

I use the recruiting mechanic only as a way to clear a body so I don't have to leave it in the open or carry it out of sight. Kinda of an exploit
Just got to a certain point in the main story where Kas reacted to a stupid comment from an NPC just as I did in my head as soon as I heard it. With rage. And the finished quest name popped up summing up what Kassandra planned to do at that moment "And the streets run red" First one to get it was the silly Merc tailing me. And then there will be a hunt! That spear will get to level 5 really soon.
P.S. There is a map of Greece on my ship's deck? Right where I command the ship. Why did it take getting to level 30 to first notice it in a cutscene? I need a 4k monitor

Good lieutenants seems like it'd be hard to do, have to knockout legendary? (Gold rarity guys) or epic guys in one hit. Seems impossible to me but somehow at some point I did it as I have a purple and gold lieutenant. I'm ignoring the triremes for now, those things are big and I'm already struggling vs other biremes my lvl. Naval combat is a little fun, but it sucks when you're fighting one and you have 2 others trying to ram you. Hard to keep shooting at one and being on the look out for the other two ramming you as you're having to push your oarmen to avoid them.
I also made some progress yesterday. Think I'm pretty much lvl 18 now, I visited thermoplea or the hot gates, went inside the hidden cave thing on Ardos and upgraded my spear and finally made it to Athens. The view was glorious once I got to the top of a mountain to see it. Big ass temple right in the middle of a big ass city. I also assassinated 3 cultists in the process on my way there.
Choice wise I think the only thing i did was not fight your counterpart (brother/sister) when given the option on Ardos.
One interesting thing I saw was you can assassinate nation leaders, I wonder how much chaos comes about if I take out pirikles (probably ruined that name) as I saw the icon above his head. I think I'll hold off on that for now.

My top ship lieutenants are usually from side quests.
Just found my favorite (so far) side quest line in the game. The Delos/Mykonos one. Intrigue, tragedy, romance, love triangles, the works. I suspect the way you resolve the different quests there will impact the ending of that specific quest line. Can't wait to see how it goes. I think I shot myself in the foot with one of the quests, but well, hoping for the best.
I would kill for Kyra to join me and the crew. Most interesting NPC I met so far.

themikefest, your crew’s gender is only changed via “skins” (sort of). You’ll earn them via exploration and quests, and there are some in the UbiClub and Store. The UbiClub is free, so I always nab some things there. You spend points earned by completing in-game milestones in all Ubi games. The only all-female few I’ve seen so far is the Female Assassins crew from UbiClub. I’d be surprised if there isn’t at least one more in-game, given the several all-female tribes and societies in-game. If you guys are looking to drop high-levels targets non-lethally for recruitment, the non-lethal arrows are your best bet. Shuttle down their health and then finish them with the arrow. You can craft them after investing in the appropriate Hunter skill.

My opinions remain the same regarding many of the design choices and numerous little annoyances. Still, I’m enjoying the game more and more. I’ve explored like a completionist madman. I’m sure I’ll later discover that the plot would’ve taken me to many of these places if I’d just advanced the story. As it is, if I complete an area and a neighboring area is near my level, I move into that area as well.
This means that I’ve played a lot of hours, reached level 40, and killed a lot of cultists but have still only completed Episode 3. I’m already eyeing some regions around Attica, which is huge and far from finished. Then I might backtrack, visiting some old ground, including Kephalonia.
At this stage, I’m finally starting to oneshot some officers with the teleporting assassination (I need to learn the proper names of these skills). I got a great legendary poisoned dagger from a mercenary. It’s the first weapon I’ve been excited to get. I’m now going to learn the skills that aid poisoning rate and effect. I can’t wait to get a flaming weapon, though I’ll likely end up setting myself ablaze more often than not.
I like how the spear changes as it improves. It’s pretty shabby at the start. I’m one “token” away from bringing it to level four.
I got another crew, the Athenian Elites (IIRC). They join my Elite Spartans, Medjays, Male and Female Assassins, Barbarians, Persians and the default shabsters. I really want a badass ship appearance. I’m back to the default, and it looks decent (nearly maxed hull, several maxed features). I’m hoping for something really cool, though. The ship hasn’t been nearly the big deal they suggested thus far.
I hope we finally get an explanation for the eagle/living UAV. Ikaros has received even less attention than Senu, up to this point. I’d love to have something said beyond, “Oh, look! That uber-special hero has an eagle friend.” I love animals and like these Eagles okay, but I’d be happy to see a return to the assassin senses of old.

You will end up in my favourite dialogue for side quests 😀 Randomized NPC: "Please, mighty Eagle bearer, kill and loot X and Y." Kassandra: "Been there, done that, what else you got? Yeah? Done it too, that too. And that. Hey, I single handedly did your whole rebellion already for free, but since you insist to pay...And why did you even call me anyway?". There was a pretty cute instance where Kas sounded kind of embarrassed admiting she already burned the quest crops. I mean I get it. What kind of psychopath just stops to randomly burn a farm down 😂 In my defence - there was a clue for a cultist pointing to those two islands. So I just raided the first one top to bottom. How could I have known that the quest chain that opened loads of quests for both islands had to be triggered from a single NPC on the second island? And I just got to a point in the story where a hint was dropped about the eagle.

Okay, so the game has gotten fun for me again. I'm at level 32 now and combat has become really fun. The game became kind of a slog there for a while because I was having trouble making enough money to upgrade both my ship and my weapons, so I would always choose my ship, but I realized I needed to go to the bulletin board to get the paying quests.

Can still do stealth but I have to use a different approach. I am madly trying to save coin atm to upgrade the ship and also trying to keep my gear upgraded, its a fine balance but some of the message board quests often pay good money especially the bounties. I got 900 Drachmae for 1 bounty.

Stealth is so hard at lower levels plus, I get impatient and lose track of who is around me so it got a little discouraging. Yesterday I upgraded my spear to level five and there are a few hunter abilities that are just so amazing to play so that made the game a lot of fun again. I also had some really fun sea battles too.

How are you guys struggling with coin? I had over 600K drachmae around Level 36. I saved for the evening at Level 41, and have around 700K, IIRC. The only limiting factor for me is finding those stone tablets. If it weren’t for that single limiting factor, my Adrestia would’ve been maxed ages ago.
I pick up every notice board quest, even if I don’t intend to make them a priority. They’re generally either close at hand and easy, and/or stuff you’ll end up doing anyway. They pay well. I break down common (grey) items I don’t need and sell rares (blue) and epics (purple). It’s easy to adapt this based upon whether materials or money is of more immediate concern. I’ve only done a few Conquest battles, but they pay well and give great non-cash rewards. If you’re in need of cash, provoke a transfer of power. The requisite raiding and pillaging will get you paid, as will the big battle.
On the topic of quests, anyone else feel weird at how easy it is to murder for money over trivial issues? I want cash and XP, so I’m doing whatever this PT. Still, these job requests are ridiculous. “Misthios, I need your help. My neighbor looked st me funny. He needs to die.” “So, you want me to kill your neighbor?” “Yes, misthios. He must die!” “Okay, I’ll do it. You can count on me!” 😆 I’m curious to see if this ruthless, mercenary behavior ever results in consequences.
I know this is the spoiler thread, but I still feel odd posting spoilers so early, so I’m keeping things very vague. I’m completely finished with Attica and have only some of the critical path left to do. Alexios sometimes comes across as naive or simple, though at other times we get to RP him as keen and clever. Whether or not Alexios is gullible, I am not. I don’t trust most of the NPCs as far as I can throw them. I’m smelling BS from all quarters. It should be interesting if my worst suspicions come true. How will Alexios (be empowered to) react to being deceived and used? This is an AC game, so it’s not a matter of “if”, but “when”.
I've been trying to land a fourth Legendary lieutenant. I’ve battled several such mercs and attempted to subdue them with paralyzing arrows. This is how I recruited the previous three, but it’s not working. The fools keep dying, despite using basic attacks with non-lethal ammo. I might have to try punching one unconscious tomorrow. Whittle then down to a red bar, then WHAP!

I wouldn't say struggling but I need to stay on top of it if that makes sense, I rarely drop below $10K balance now though. Ancient tablets are the biggest issue for me but I am progressing slowly in terms of game time.
