Imagine if everyone on board the Ark dies and that's the last we hear of Andromeda. Wouldn't that suck?

Yes it would suck so much. I love the fresh start in Andromeda and tbh have very hard time going back to 2 and 3..

Amazon shipped mine also, arrival on Tuesday (TOMORROW)!
I'm looking forward to reading it, but fear it will make me depressed thinking about what could have been with this game.

I write book reviews for NetGalley when they send me Advance Review Copies and for Goodreads and have gotten in the habit of doing so for every book I read so I thought I'd post my book review of ME Annihilation here...I paid for my copy of this book...didn't get to read it for free and had to wait forever to get my copy, just like everybody else. I wrote this for the general Goodreads folks who probably don't play ME. At the end I'll add a little bit about the characters, that I didn't have in my original review. I'm a big fan of the Mass Effect and Dragon Age games so I read all the related books as soon as they come out. My four star rating is based on loving the games, having played them over and over, knowing the lore, and wanting more content in the games, and if not there, in books. I don't see how the books could be really enjoyed without the background of the games they are linked to but in the case of this prequel, for a series of games that I love to play, I was very happy to be able to indulge in more ME.
The first part of the book introduced us to the characters on a ship to Andromeda that had a big problem. We'd meet a character and then they would go into a long memory of the past that gave us an idea of what the character was like, and this could be pretty tedious at times. At the same time, we did need to care about the characters and I began to do that with several of them. The second, shorter part of the book, then provided the satisfactory "fixing the problem", as best as it could be fixed, with the limited resources and time that the ship leaders had to do so.
I do wish we'd get to see these characters in the next ME game but I'm not sure another ME will ever come out and even if it does, they may go a completely different direction. For all I know, this may be the last new ME content. I know we hear rumors of this or that, but I'll believe there will be another game when it actually comes out.Added for this thread: I just want to say that once I really got into it, I enjoyed the book. The first part is a lot of exposition on the characters...a person walks in a room and then you read a zillion pages of them thinking about their past or this or that but even though I love the games, I kind of needed that to get me back into the flow of really remembering the certain details of the different races. Ever since meeting Kal'Reegar in Mass Effect 2, I've been wanting to spend time with another male quarian and we get to do that in this book. What surprised me was that despite never giving a flip about a volus or elcor character, I likes the galaxy famous fashion designer volus that we meet and the ear, nose, throat, elcor doctor we meet...both came to life for me in this book. I also liked the female batarian character too although once I'd finished the book and gotten away from it, I realized that she may be too much like Vetra.

I struggled with the beginning of the book, I understood the purpose in terms of giving detail to the characters but it did make the start drag a bit. About halfway though when they start dealing with the issue and you get Anax and Borbala working together the book really kicked into overdrive. I loved their story development and how they both opened up and they'd be great squad mates to have in a game. I liked the Elcor ENT doctor and The Volus suit designer but struggled to warm to Senna and Qetsi. Senna's reveal of his family artefact is great but Qetsi's reaction seemed way too over dramatic. Plus the clues dropped as to the perpetrator were perhaps a little too obvious. On the whole though it was a good read but I would have liked a bit more content.

Yeah, if only the first part could have been done differently, so that a large part of it didn't end up being boring, they maybe we could have had more content. There I was getting all warmed up and interested in the book, and it was almost done. From the beginning I didn't like Qetsi, but then, they didn't give us much time to like her, with the clues they dropped. Still, I'm hungry for more so I was happy to have a book to read.

I've read a synopsis and read some brief excerpts of the book so it is already largely spoiled for me, but that said, it sounds like a good story and I want to read it. I might see if I can get it in audiobook form. Very convenient for me to listen to books while I work during the day. I think what intrigues me about Annihilation is that it appears to be a Mass Effect story without any human characters driving it, which would be refreshing.

Okay, wait what? I can buy ME: Annihilation from Google Play as an E-Book? This is tempting... I've never considered buying an E-Book. Has anyone bought an E-Book before? Yeah, two of my sisters write quite a few so I kind of feel obligated. And then I started rebuying a lot of my library of old books that are a pain to find in my stuff. Initially I thought they kind of sucked but the tech has improved and they read pretty damn nice now. Still don't come with new book smell.

But kindle is a close second and I have a huge library in my pocket with the kindle app on my phone, though that doesn't read as well as an actual kindle but its still a easy read. Its been a godsend for trips, I used to waste quite a bit of luggage space on physical books. Now its all in my pocket.

So, this was finally released during my BSN hiatus. I came here looking for info, since I’d forgotten the title and was already logged into BSN. I will probably buy this just to complete my ME collection. I’m not really in the mood to read it, but will not doubt be more interested if I get around to my next MEA PT. Reviews make it sound mediocre. It will be a shame if Mass Effect fades away with a sigh.
