Late to the party, but after playing with a voiced protagonist... I fall on the other side of the fence. I don't ever want to go back to silent sarah or mute mortimer. Just make the choices actually show what the character is going to say and not an abbreviation and you're good. If you're on PC you can go further and install Player Comments and basically have Sarcastic!Hawke and it's sooo damn funny!!! I wish I installed the mod sooner. The battle comments are a bit too frequent but I just LOVE how your character talks to his companions now. Very immersive. Looking at FO4 objectively I'm not sure voiced protagonist is the best idea for Bethesda though, considering their emphasis on player freedom. Same with a set background. I think that was overall a bad idea even though I personally enjoyed the more emotional family focused storyline quite a bit. The male voice acting is very very good. I'd prefer a not having a set background. In fact, I installed a mod that made my female protagonist have a military background. lol But I much prefer voices to silence. Here's the problem with the voiced protag, or the problem Bethesda has rather. You put a voiced protag and end up with no dialogue choice, and pretty much no dialogue at all. And I get you guys, after having a voiced protag it's hard to go back and all that jazz, but I think none of us wants to have a game in which our options are "yes, no, sarcasm, speech check" that's dumbing down our choices in a stellar fashion.
And I don't think it's perhaps a matter of budget for Beth even though paying actors for voicing a fuckton of dialogue is quite hefty in the game's budget. I think it's more about being matter of time. Voicing is usually done last in a game development, and since Bethesda takes so fucking long to develop games to begin with, this will add even more time to the developing process, thus they would have to rush it, streamline everything so dialogue can be put in in a timely fashion. If I remember right, voicing in FO4 was done the last 2 years of development, that's a huge amount of time.
We need to understand that there're compromises to be made. And I for one don't want FO4 becoming just another shooter with some references to the FO universe, I think dialogue is fairly important, it's one of the pillars of these games. If we could have both, voiced protag and good dialogue that would be ace, I'm all in for that. However I'm not sure if that will ever happen.

That would be nice, considering the Fallout 3 fan remake had to be cancelled. And in regards to that discussion about diaogues, I might get shit for it, but maybe Bethesda should start using a dialogue wheel. That would help in regards to lack of dialogue options at least.

Pass. FO5 please. I've already played the crap out of 3. And yes, I realize this is funny coming from someone currently playing KOTOR. In my defense, that game doesn't seem to ever be getting a legit remake or sequel so... it's different

Dialogue options depends on whether or not they want to add them I don't mind the old "text box" system, so long as there are more options. Being honest, it's not like FO3 and NV had that many options either, but at least some options comparing to FO4 which was ludicrous in that regard. As a personal take, I always wanted a few redundant lines, like 3 types of saying "yes" and the likes, just to give diversity and perhaps one line adjusts better to the type of char you're roleplaying as. Pass. FO5 please. I've already played the crap out of 3. And yes, I realize this is funny coming from someone currently playing KOTOR. FO5 isn't coming any bloody time soon, that's guaranteed. Shie, at this point who knows when TESVI is gonna release. We'll see a little bit after BE3 if we get a clearer picture about what to expect from Beth regarding those titles in the future.

I like to see a Fallout 5 released, but as said above, it will be a long wait. I would guess it would be at least 2025, most likely later, that there's any information about a new Fallout game

Same reason I never got into Witcher 1, Geralt sounded so dull. Also I think I read somewhere that Bethesda said it they should not had made the protagonist voiced. They said it limits choices.

The funny part is, even I know you can't use any type of asset from a previous game and port it to another legally, that's why some modders got banned from the Nexus for instance, because they ripped content from another game and port it directly to say, Fallout. About NV mod, I've seem to remember they said they were going to hire some voice actors for the mod. We'll see how far they get... all my best wishes of course, but I don't expect the mod to be finshed really. Then you have Skywind, apparently since the mod will require you to own both Skyrim and Morrowind, you can completely circumvent any legislation. I always wondered why the pre-requisite for that mod was to own Morrowind, when you're actually building the mod on Skyrim's engine, but now I understand. It won't be the same game without some of the most memorable voices like Cass or Legate Lanius. I was rather startled how the Fallout 3 remake got cancelled. I would have figured a remake would have been ok so long as it was non profitable. They worked on the black mesa project for years untill it was released and Valve never gave them any crap. The reason why they cancelled the project is because of copyright issues of recording voiceovers from Fallout 3. I know it sucks but it's the law.

I like both. I've played FO4 waaaay more than Skyrim but only because of my settlement addiction.
When TES6 comes out in five years or something I'll be thrilled but if it doesn't let me build a proper city there will be a gaping hole for me because of how much I've grown to enjoy putting down my own communities. Hearthfire was great but already then I was kind of disappointed with how very limiting it was. Still wasted 50 hours decorating my homes, mind you, but after FO4 my expectations for any future Bethesda game have changed...
Rumor has it Starfield will have a space station builder. That would be SO cool too!!! Please please let there be an E3 announcement. The anticipation is killing me.
I'm ready for something new. Just to switch it up. I love fantasy, more than post apocalyptic. But right now all I want to be is a space explorer tbh. And since Star Citizen is in development hell and I'm not willing to pay for a tech demo, all my hope rests on Starfield.

They made the legion too unlikable. Unlike other factions, the one and only positive is their leader. Ceaser is charismatic, intelligent and cunning. And in a sense, that's the major flaw. Without him the legion just falls apart into a tribe of unstable brutes.

And you still get bits of that, like when Cass comments on how Legion caravans are "safe as houses" since raiders know better than to screw with them.
Also, there was lore that got cut saying that female Legion citizens could achieve positions of great respect (non-citizens and slaves...not so much...)
Unfortunately what we got was more an "Evil for the Lulz" faction.

I don't mind cliches and simple things, as long as it's well done, the problem is, when it's badly done, then it can become a burden. I like complexity but I really don't get that obsession/necessity that people have that all needs to be complex and deep and if it's not then it's a shit. Though in the Legion's case, as you said, they had a direction in mind but had to be cut and obviously in this case, the simplicity showed to be lackluster and thus, all ended very shallow, as clearly at first there was more into it.

Yeah exactly and that's what kept me away from them. I wanted a faction based around practicality and ends justify the means if they make the Mohave safe. Not evil for the lulz. haha

The thing is, when you have factions, it helps to have a valid reason to join them. Unless you're playing a psycho, there really isn't one to join the Legion. Especially as a female Courier. Fortunately the other three DO make sense.
