I think that if they do release some sort of an application, it should not be something that is used WHILE you play, but rather something you can check on while not playing. While at work and such.
But I would not want some sort of a game like Fallout Shelter which made me load up the application every few minutes so I could make sure that the people I sent outside the vault didn't get into any trouble and I need to call them back.

It should be something that on the one hand makes me wanna load it up and play with it, but on the otherhand doesn't force me using it in order to unlock something during the game or using some sort of "real time" resource management...

The codex is kinda nice but I really think they could do more than that.

I wouldn't mind being able to access the "war table" and send your team on missions via a companion app. In fact, I'd find that to be a natural extension of companion apps.

I'm not even sure if this game will have a war table similar to DA:I, but if it does, that's what I'd like to see.

I very much enjoyed the Cerberus News Network from ME2. It allowed so many ways for Bioware to expand the universe without having to write novels or produce additional games. Some were hilarious, some were sad, and some even followed events in the game. I'm not sure how easily it would be to integrate something like that into an Ark mission but, you never know.

The chance of smaller "game" being released before MEA's pretty high, considering it seems to be common industry practice. Though, what would it do? We're playing the Pathfinder Ryder so given the emphasis on the handling of the new Mako i wouldn't be surprised if it was a racing game where we test out the new iteration and have to race away from large, charging beasts. Could even have a mechanic where you let someone else drive and you try to shoot at debris to cause it to block the inbound beast.

Regards to quality, hopefully it'll be well tested on all major brands of cells and tablets but it sorta depends on timing and which EA group gets tasked with the development.

I think that was one of my favorite features.
I felt like I'm reading the Mass Effect universe local newspaper and getting daily updates on stuff that are happening in the world that are not necessarily related to the main story.

I wouldn't mind something like this appearing in-game, allowing us to communicate with companions we didn't bring along on the mission, send us reminders that they want to speak to us or check Ryder's email etc?

We've seen people in-universe using their omnitools for pretty much all those things, so why not allow Ryder the option to do the same? Integrating our journal, codex and menu options as seeming functions of the omnitool would also make sense.

Kind of like what the expanded galaxy mod does for ME3.

The ME3 app was essentially future Twitter, would be funny for something like that to appear in-game;

I've never experienced a well executed companion app. They've all ranged from pointless to disastrous. I guess a good one would be interesting to see, but it's not something that will ever make my personal wish lists for games.

i really like pathfinder's setting but i REALLY don't like how focused on min/maxing the rules are. it's designed from the ground up by and for min/maxer's and autists. the rest of us normies have to play on crayon eater difficulty just to hit a target.

But to be serious, that'd be fine so long as they don't lock content behind the companion app, and only if the spinoff character is a volus.

Maybe it could be episodical... Have several chapters, each dedicated for one species' character.
But I don't think they have so much free time on their hands for a project like that...
On the other hand, they did say they wanted something to match Fallout 4 presentation, so I guess they will talk about another surprise beside the main game, such as a companion app of some sort, so that can be somewhat possible...

Ark twitter could be a fun app, with both Ark people and Tempest crew/companions sending out messages. It would be great for world building especially if slightly confused Andromeda natives sign up too.

Ryder could even have their own account so the player can feel like part of it and after doing a side quest the quest giver starts following you. A bit like the emails you get from the Arena terminal.

Well, since the prelude book's possibly behind in release, at least in comparison to the game's release, maybe this could provide background information and tidbits to hold us off and fill in some details that might be missing from the introduction. Not that i expect the beginning of the game to be lacking but i imagine they'll want to jump straight to the mechanics to keep new people enthralled.

I would like the Datapad app from ME3 done right. Have all the codex entries, have the ones that are narrated be narrated in the app, actually update the codex with any entries that are added via the DLC's. Allow us to see in-game emails on it as well as journal entries.

If gathering is a thing in ME for crafting I'd love to see a way to do it off-street so that my limited gaming time can be spent playing the story. Being able to read codex entries and companion interaction would also be sweet.

No. Arn't there enough games for that silly device, hate the damn thing. The only good about the gimmick is the button off which I use the most frequent.
