It's all at once; use the Medical Inhaler = use every type of item loaded into it. The Adreno is always there, but increasing the Medical skill unlocks more slots. Add "Meat" and "Carbohydrates" items, it boosts maximum health and health regen, respectively. It uses all the items equipped at once? So if I have health thingy and then something that gives me +crits it will consume both at the same time when I press the heal button?

So, could I ask for some non-spoilery general opinions? I'm on the fence whether I should buy it for my upcoming three day weekend, or wait for a sale. Which is kinda funny, because not long ago I wouldn't think twice, it's Obsidian so I'd get it on release... The thing is, FNV is probably my favorite game ever, warts and all, but since then I seem to have started accumulating experiences that make me a bit wary. For one, I never managed to get into Pillars of Eternity, despite being both an Obsidian and Baldur's Gate fan. It just felt bland to me somehow, and I lost interest fairly quickly. I guess I never really connected to any of the characters, including my PC, and the lore didn't grip me. Another possible issue is - and I feel weird saying this - some things I've read make me suspect the game might be a bit too pandery/anvilicious. Now, I'm a big supporter of inclusivity in games, and I used to feel ugly schadenfreude when 'real gamers' first started crying about gay agenda/ugly women/SJWs overtaking the industry. But eventually newer games began to grind on my own nerves, not by including that stuff, but by the way they included it. It's like there's a checklist that they insert items off of without consideration of how it flows within the game itself. Again, I think FNV dealt with those subjects beautifully - you've got LGBT characters (and dialogue options), random male strippers in dirty strip bars, and a generally gritty setting that doesn't paint anyone or anything as 'the one correct option'. Pretty much everything is your choice that lets you decide how to feel about it. Now with TOW, I've already been unfortunately spoiled on a couple plot points, and it makes me fear that this game is pushing certain viewpoints more blatantly than Obsidian's other games, or at least FNV did. From what I've read, one of your companions is an asexual lesbian, and her quest is about you helping her hook up with a girl... that's a bit cringy to me, honestly. Why is my involvement necessary in that exact part of her life? Why can't we learn that about her and yet have a quest that doesn't revolve around her sexual identity? Arcade was gay but his quest touched on an an entirely different aspect of his character. Why is anyone's love life the PC's business, if not to aggressively promote the 'look, we're so woke!' image of Obsidian themselves? This kind of stuff bothers me because it's not a satisfying way to show diversity and it does break my immersion. DAI and Andromeda were guilty of it too, and it's one of the reasons I find myself playing less and less, despite how modern games should theoretically be more to my taste, since they're supposedly no longer exclusively aimed towards teenage/young adult guys. But it's just not working for me it seems. Sorry for this rant. TLDR, how is TOW?

I really haven't got that far into the game to try and convince you to pick it up or anything. For starters you gotta know what the game is. It's a AA game 1st person game, it's not a great shooter (it's not a shooter to begin with...) it's not a perfect RPG either, but it's better than most I'd say. People just need to know what it is to not have unrealistic expectations first. But I'm enjoying it quite a lot, seeing new places and getting in, talking to people and getting a lot of quests. I Always like that. I personally like the humor, it doesn't seem too over the top either. But there's a clear pattern of a "not so serious" type of game, so if you're not into that, maybe you'll find it annoying at some point. As for SJW, inclusive, or politics stuff, I have no problems here. It doesn't preach anything as of now. Devs said they didn't want to push agendas either, and so far so good. New vegas was more clear in the "be bad or be good" type of quest arcs with NCR vs Legion, until you got to the end where everything gets quite grey. Here it seems grey from the get go, but in a realistic fashion. Just like real life, things usually are not black or white.
I'd recommend you to check out reviews if you're not sure. Most people agree it's a good game, but the reviews will bring points and arguments as of why and you'll be able to make a decision, maybe the game isn't for you even if it's a good game.

CHRrOME It's fine, I'm not looking for 'convincing' arguments, I just want to get a feel for what actual players are experiencing. I've thoroughly enjoyed a number of games with mediocre reviews, which is why I'm wary of official reviews in the first place. There were a number of highly praised AAA games that were obviously just not for me. At the same time, I think I know what I'm getting into with an AA game, that's not a problem. I do, however, feel I have some expectations - perhaps unrealistic - from Obsidian, which is why I've felt a bit burned by their recent games. I'm just trying to figure out if TOW is more like NV, POE, bootleg Borderlands, or something else. As for NV being clear about the "good and bad" options... Yes and no. Yes, the Legion was framed as the bad guys from the start, but I feel like the game's narrative had enough leeway to make a PC want to join them without a "if you want to be evil, press X at the final choice point". By which I mean, there was a narrative to follow there, from like the halfway point of the game. And the world was bleak enough that it didn't feel like a "hurr durr I be evil now" thing. You could believably justify that choice, for a certain type of PC. It wasn't a gimmick. I hope TOW offers that as well, but since it's way more linear (apparently?) than any fallout, I'm just wondering how well it's executed. And another thing I'd like to know - how "not serious" is it, actually? It's another personal preference of mine, I like games (and other media) that mix serious and absurd well. NV again, but I also enjoyed Saint's Row 2 more than the over-the-top goofy 3 and 4. I'm always looking for a game with that 'vibe' among newer stuff. Too much to hope for? Anyway, thank you for the info, I'm more on the side of 'get it' than 'wait' rn, but I'll give it some more consideration.

Thus far it seems "The Board" is being played up as the Bad Guys of the game. But there have been hints that it may be more complicated than that.

Anyway, thank you for the info, I'm more on the side of 'get it' than 'wait' rn, but I'll give it some more consideration. I've heard multiple times this game being called "New Vegas in space" or the spiritual successor of Fallout. Personally, I think this game is its own thing. Sure, you can draw parallels because there're laser weapons in this game, and robots, and there's dialogue with skill checks. But honestly, it's like comparing Inquisition with Witcher 3. Yeah, both are RPGs, but each one is different. People mentioned there're hints and what not about Fallout, maybe it's because I'm not that far into the game yet, but I'm not seeing something obvious, and I think this game isn't trying to be a "new Fallout" either. I just took a major choice yesterday, and I don't think it was the "wrong" thing to do, yet a certain group in the game are not happy because of what I did, and I understand. In fact something just happened now thanks to that choice I've made and it's not particularly good, let's put it that way. I was surprised to see the game react to that relatively quickly. As for the humor part, I'll try to explain. It's not like they tell jokes all the time, it doesn't make you laugh, it makes you chuckle at best (in the good way imo). Like there's this robot that fails to fake surprise (it's a robot, you gotta program everything) and he goes on quietly on the lines of "error, surprised not achieved, ticket opened for maintenance". Or how they tell you a guy killed himself, and they make the whole town pay for his grave maintenance. Or how if you fall sick they tell you it's because you're not working hard enough (I know this last part is more grim). The ship threatens to space you, yet you're grounded, and you can point that out to her and she'll be like "oh... you noticed". It's things like that, I call them softcore humor. Personally I enjoy it, I'm the type of person that believes people are funnier when they tell a joke and they don't laugh, since I'm like that myself. Like Geralt in W3, he'd never laugh, but you could laugh listening to him say something funny, it happens a lot.

If I don't like it that's on me, but I'm sure I'll get some entertainment out of it at worst.

I've already posted my Positive thoughts so In the interest of balance I thought I'd post some of my Negative's about the game.
Overall the gameplay is fun and entertaining and don't get me wrong there is some good writing but personally I'm finding the writing/characterization a bit patchy. Without spoiling things too much I'm thinking about some of the Companion Quests, I'm finding some of the stories rather weak and disappointing.
Ellie's Companion Quest: The Low Crusade
I really don't know what to think about this. Are the writers deliberately trying to subvert the character by making the character unsympathetic to make a wider societal point or is it just bad writing? I honestly don't know after completing this. In this story Ellie is revealed to be a former young socialite of the wealthy settlement of Byzantium who has run away from her privileged lifestyle and elitist snob parents to create a new life in the stars.
The writing just made me feel that Ellie was a spoilt little rich girl trying to get back at her over privileged parents by running off and playing pirate. As it went on I was thinking OMG who care's ?, just get this over with. It all came over as a bit childish and petty. Am I supposed to feel sympathy for her "plight" her "terrible burden" ? it just came across as rich people's problems. Get over it rich kid. I think Felix is meant to be the humble "poor boy" seeking mentor counterpoint to Ellie's independent "rich girl" wannabe rogue who doesn't need anybody.
In a squad game I believe it's important that the player has to have some degree of empathy with their squad mates, after completing this quest I feel like booting Ellie off the ship. If the characters are subverted too much the player will be repelled and end up playing solo.
Okay, so it wasn't just me then... I'm still not quite finished the game, but that quest felt like the low point in the game. Not just her actions, but your response selection just felt off compared to most of the other quests in the game, and at times the conversation rambled on and on and on. Was it written by a different writer than many of the others? Was it an 11th hour addition that didn't have the polish time the other quests did? I dunno.
I've just finished the game and it does pick up after that, it was also my personal low point in the game. On reflection, I can overlook it now and give them a pass on this as I think it's important to remember that we are talking about a AA game from a smaller studio here (before they were bought by microsoft), not a mega resourced AAA from one of the corporate behemoth's studio's. It's an aberration in an otherwise well made game, it may be simply down to staff pressures, time constraints, deadline's and budget. It didn't ruin the game for me in fact I really enjoyed the game overall.

I just started, about 4 hours in and this game is screaming for a 3rd person mod, it even zooms out when I'm idle. To save myself from the "I messed up my character and need to start over" I picked this heavy gunner build.

Been reading lots of "it's very meh" reactions on Metacritic. I assume those are coming from young players who NEED hundreds of hours of shooting stuff in an open world AAA game and TOW is just so not that. OR from salty Fallout fans. Maybe I'm biased but I just can't imagine the writing to be indeed totally boring and bland. Unless Obsidian lost all their talent like Bioware...
Mind you, I haven't been able to play myself yet. But it annoys me when people fail to understand what AA means. No wonder AAA publishers are making billions. People WANT their gorgeous looking copy&paste grindfests it seems. *sigh* People do not want to read anymore (cited as a negative that quest conversations are way too long, lol!). A $60 game MUST HAVE hundreds of hours of stuff to do or it's too expensive. WTF?! Are people so desperate to piss away their time?? I bet these people don't have families or other responsibilities. I'd MUCH rather replay a shorter game than spend 500 hours killing things for silly rewards. I REALLY hope this game sells well so that Microsoft gives them more money for another shot at a AAA game so that all the whiny people online shut up.

Haven't heard many complaints at all for this game. Doubt it's FO fans, trust me, Fallout salty fans ADORE this game. It must be the other dudes thinking this is a shooter in space, which it isn't. It doesn't have heaps of reading either, not more than, say FO3. I remember PoE, that one is super heavy on reading and can get tiresome if you're a person without much time. But this one isn't it, dialogue is voiced and voice acting is fairly good. I think reception is indeed superb for this one, and all the media including the likes of Polygon that love to dislike stuff for the sake of agendas. All are giving them great reviews and recommendations. I think the game is doing great for Obsidian, I hope they sell a lot.

Personally I enjoy it, I'm the type of person that believes people are funnier when they tell a joke and they don't laugh, since I'm like that myself. Like Geralt in W3, he'd never laugh, but you could laugh listening to him say something funny, it happens a lot. Yeah, the humor is more absurdist. Situations are taken to their logical extremes and it's regarded as...normal. There's no laugh track, it's on the audience to find it funny or not.

I was on the fence about buying, and I watched some videos...errr...it was the start of the game so it could always get better but yeah...it did felt boring and bland. I was actually surprised by this, it's the npc and quests that felt that way ...the world looks beautiful though.

The Outer World's: Review/Buyers Guide (spoiler free)
Having read a few posts expressing an interest in the game and seeking further information without too many spoilers here are some of my thought's.
What it is
The Outer World's is a first person rpg which has Fallout style gameplay/systems: similar inventory, perks stat's, repair, workbenches, combat grafted on to a planetary exploration space rpg set in a single star system. There are some Vault style area's in the game, they are usually Labs, Research facilities and installations. Fallout 3/Fallout New Vegas players will find these feature's immediately familiar they are essentially the same things with different names.
Crew/Squad The player gather's companion's on their travels who can be invited to join the crew of your ship, the player can then select two crew member's to fill the squad position's of the ship's landing party. The crew have story/companion quest's which provide some of their back story/history.
Space Travel Interplanetary travel is through a navigation computer similar to the Ebon Hawk in Kotor II. Simply click on the destination planet from the map to proceed.
Combat
Fallout first person shooter style even has a "Vats" like time dilation feature. Consumables can enhance combat stats/abilities.
NPC Interactions
Communication/dialogue is conducted through a traditional (detailed) menu list of response/query options similar to Fallout: New Vegas. Companions can sometimes interject and make a comment/observation during a conversation.
Tone Can range from the serious subject matters covered in the main story quest line to a light comedic tone/squad banter in general gameplay, in my opinion this isn't always successful but humour is a highly subjective thing, it's all down to personal taste I suppose. Speaking for myself it didn't ruin the game.
Style/Design Has a very bright vibrant Technicolor-esque stylized environment, like 60's sci-fi, think Star Trek:TOS planets combined with traditional Fallout design and you get the general idea. It's a very hybrid style and environment with some designs/area's and maps also reminiscent of Kotor II and other art design similar to Bioshock Infinite. On a more trivial note it needs a hair mod.
What it Isn't
Mass Effect (Trilogy) Some commentator's have got a little carried away by saying this is Mass Effect combined with Fallout. These statements are completely wide of the mark, any comparisons are only superficial, It uses the Unreal engine and has squad members/crew on a ship, that's it. These companions have nowhere near the depth and character of Mass Effect crew, so don't expect that level of conversation/character investment if you purchase this game.
They are lighter and more comedic, and not as fleshed out and detailed, in some respects they're quite basic characters with rudimentary companion quests, which is perfectly understandable as this is a lower budget AA game. They are above the current average in games but they are not even close to classic Normandy crew members. Some review's may have given an exaggerated opinion (probably due to the recent paucity of traditional single player RPG's). This may give some people a false impression, If you go into this expecting Mass Effect then you'll only be disappointed.
Open World The planets/maps are not huge Skyrim size area's. These maps and area's are like bigger Kotor II environments. I found some of the landing zones, space stations reminiscent of Kotor II locations. This is a quote from Obsidian "a good bit of context for the approach is to think of what we did in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, with potentially more ground to cover and explore in each area."
Micro-transaction Monetization Vehicle Zero micro-transactions or in game purchases.
Conclusion
I found The Outer Worlds to be an enjoyable entertaining game with fun gameplay. On completion I had no sense of anti-climax or disappointment. It is a well made game with few bugs. Overall it's a solid game that's well written with a good story. The overarching narrative and main quest line has the strongest writing, some of the peripheral stuff is weaker and patchy (probably different writers) but it doesn't significantly detract from the game. As it's an AA game it's not as slick, big and flashy, as a major AAA. It does have flaws but these are relatively minor and overall it is well made and very competent, "It just works" to borrow a phrase (this time it's actually true). I hope Obsidian will support modding as this game has great potential for mods.
If you have any doubts about this game and if you have a pc or xbox you can always try it out on XBOX Game Pass. I signed up for £1 GBP and it's $1 for US players (first month). I'll buy it later on when it's released on my preferred choice of pc outlets.

Yeah. Game is great and all. But epic store "exclusive" is an epic store "exclusive". At this point I simply can not support it... sometimes sacrifices has to be made I got my copy from the Microsoft store That is why we have "exclusive" and not just; exclusive. GoG, Epic Game Store, Microsoft Store and Steam are all "neutral" game-platforms. Release the game on all of them. And if they have to choose, don't choose Epic Game Store, atleast choose a proper platform like GoG. But preferably release the game on all the "neutral" game platforms.

I usually get motion sickness from firstpersongames but not this one thankfully. Its a great game, will update with my opinion at a later time.
Yeah, I can get motion sickness/dizziness in some first person games, actually this wasn't too bad and I didn't get any side effects from the game.

Am thinking about getting it. I've always complained about there not being any true non-lightsabery space western RPGs to play after watching a few episodes of Firefly. This would seem to finally satisfy that craving.
The game snuck up on me though. Until a few days ago I actually figured it was some new space MMORPG trying its luck where No Man's Sky failed.

Finished the game last night, and the verdict is... I leaned heavily into the dialogue skills/charm, leadership, long guns, science/tech, and hacking. I finished at Level 30, so my skills were quite high. Loved the fact that you could talk/hack your way out or around of a lot of problems, and being able to nail those 100 skill level checks is extremely satisfying. And just having the ability to approach missions in different ways. More ways than a lot of RPGs allow these days. As far as the crew goes, Parvati and SAM were my favorites (aren't they everyone's? ), though I tried to make sure everyone had a chance to stretch their legs. I didn't hate any of them, though Ellie's quest was just... off, as I mentioned in a previous post. Oh, and I nearly choked at the cost of Parvati's personal quest, even with my high persuasion skills! And while the game didn't have AAA photogrammatic environments, I thought they worked really well for the style this game was going for. The punchy colour palette also helped. Had fun exploring and finding the hidden things tucked away here and there. The conversation animations were admittedly a bit stiff, but again I thought it was fine for this style of game. I didn't run into any crashes, and the only bug I personally ran into was Parvati's epilogue bug, which was a common one. I'm not sure what their plans are for the future of TOW (if any?), but I'm definitely down for more.
