At least DA seems to be overall a bit better about this..? Fenris does the cheek cupping thing, I'm pretty sure Bull does too in his "kadan" conversation, and iirc Dorian's kiss animation has him holding hands with the Inquisitor (that might be flycam tho, I swear I've seen a screenshot).

She was quite happy to see him be humiliated and instead forced to work for the Inquisition.

You mentioned Blackwall, but the guy killed a whole family, children included and then ran away from his crime to the point of taking up a false name. Yet he is "KISA" material. Sure his storyarch involves him turning it around, working towards becoming a good man and all that jazz.

You mentioned Sebastian who is a self-rightous ass, and in DA:I he serve no other purpose than "invade! invade! INVADE!"

Cullen had his bad moments too but later on became a better man, he wanted to kill all mages back in Origins, he had a part in the action in Kirkwall although ended up standing against Meredith.

Yet.

Somehow Dorian is a "terrible person", I don't even know if you could call him or Sera promiscuous. He is not shy but that seems to be about it.

What I see is an attempt to throw a certain, preferred label at character not really obtainable to somehow suit a narrative that a certain sexuality is not "properly catered to."

Anywho... I expect we won't get anywhere with this

Anders does too. Dorian's was in flycam, I think. People were confused, why'd they do it so accurately and not show it.

I mean, whether the DA team has been a lot better for LGBT players than either of the ME teams is not even a serious question at this point

I feel so fortunate that Sera exists - hers was the first f/f romance that really hit me in the feels (I didn't play Isabela's until later and by then I was attached to Nick Boulton's Hawke, and I liked Leliana's romance but I didn't play it until DAI came out and I wasn't overwhelmed with The Feels™, just thought it was kinda cute). I like Merrill but can't deal with Isabela's disappointment and unrequited love. 😭 And I think Josephine is gorgeous but her romance doesn't do much for me (also Sera exists so she has no chance). So I feel like even if DA4's f/f options tank with me, I'll still be happy. 👌 just kidding pls give me calpernia

I like to think the options will be varied enough in DA4 that most people will walk away happy. Lots of straight guys wanted no-nonsense warrior woman Aveline, or someone "normal and nice" like Bethany, and they got Cassandra and Josephine, who are very similar to those characters and to each other (both of them being non-mage human Andrastian women from noble families), whose biggest difference is being a tomboy (with a romantic streak) vs. a beruffled girly-girl (with a romantic streak). Perhaps in the next game they'll get someone from an entirely different culture, another Dalish elf like Merrill (but less of a pariah), a Tevinter, a Tal-Vashoth. Curious, are there any straight guys here who'd want to pursue a dwarf or qunari? I know there are some on the forums, just don't know if they're lurking in this thread.

Straight women have probably had the most variety in general... almost every race, additional "romance arcs" with Gorim, Tamlen, and Cullen in DAO, lots of warriors, a couple of mages... aside from a "rogueish rogue" human (as opposed to pious Sebastian or elven Zevran). And there were the race-locked romances in DAI. Hmmm... any women that romance male characters want to chime in on this? Anything you're hoping for in the next game?

And the mlm fellas have lots of different thoughts about their ideal LIs, this thread is proof of that. Hopefully there are AT LEAST two options for everybody (as has been the case in DA2 and DAI, but only true for m/f and f/m in DAO), plus maybe some Harding-esque flirtationships or something if neither of the options are to your liking. (I remember some people were VERY unhappy with DAI's f/f options, namely because Josie's an NPC and her romance doesn't feature a sex scene, and they just disliked Sera in general, and there have been similar complaints about the m/f and m/m options....) At the end of the day, you can't please everybody, but variety and being mindful of your tropes goes a long way. 👌

The desire demons were removed from game though.
