Pricing things so high that only a few people can afford them, and then bitching about how so few people buy them seems counterproductive, if not asinine. Lower the cost and more people will buy. Did I read that right and the example they were selling was priced at 130 British pounds? Of real money? That's insane. The whole friggin' game isn't worth that much, let alone one item. Maybe they should be calling themselves dicks and asshats. Maybe it is the other way around. Earlier seasons had lower pricing but the freeloaders didn't buy enough so they had to explore a higher price range? Fortnite and Apex Legends are both free to play games with cosmetics, however Fortnite's store is a success whereas people shy away from Apex's store. Fortnite's is cheaper and of higher quality, and they sell well, Apex's is expensive and of lower quality and even people who spend heavily in Fortnite are reluctant to spend in Apex's store. It's not rocket science.

this is just a situation where gamers got pissed, complained, then the devs got angry because even free games aren't free to make. I've never seen the big deal. Everything costs 130 bucks but does one need everything? No. And while I'm not one hundred percent sure most of these games do allow you to purchase things with in game currency. Even if not the devs have to make their money somehow. ...Sheesh, can you imagine if EA went the Star Citizen way and offered 15 THOUSAND $ DLC? One thing to keep in mind is the age of the target audience. Over 60% of people playing Fortnite are 24 or under, these people don't have much money. Star Citizen is aimed at a much older audience that may very well have lots of money (Jesus Christ they're pushing the crowd funding limits)

Apex Legend has poop boxes for loot? Well, I'm not surprised. Andy probably doesnt know how to sell mtx without a gambling twist. Pardon, I meant surprise twist.

Well what conal says is correct but I also have no idea what venue he is talking about because as a community manager I never saw or heard from him at all as far as interaction goes unlike previous community managers.
Oddly enough, I liked him in the old BSN. But then, Bio was not into Twitter and REDDIT.

No, not rocket science but cheap vanity items also implies a large player base. This sustains the online monetization goals. High cost of vanity items implies a diminutive player base and jacking up the vanity prices is an attempt to meet those same goals. Anthem, imo, has fallen into that catch 22 situation.
DA4 will encounter the same problems unless the player base is maintained above the minimum required to keep the game going.
I wonder if EA/Bio will come out and say "We view DA4, a live-service game, to have a lifespan of between 7-10 years".

Maybe they should be calling themselves dicks and asshats. $170 cost for loot boxes to buy all available cosmetic items in the "Iron Crown" event in an Electronic Arts game. This does not inspire confidence in EA as a reputable company. www.cnn.com/2019/08/17/business/apex-legends-electronic-arts-loot-boxes/index.html
Respawn is apologizing for their "misstep". They admit fault. Read this article for the details.
Imo, greed lead to this fiasco and it bit them in the azz.

Well what conal says is correct but I also have no idea what venue he is talking about because as a community manager I never saw or heard from him at all as far as interaction goes unlike previous community managers. He actually did a lot when he was with Bioware... You just might not realize it was him. The Anthem corn maze. The Tale of Corsa the Jackal Spit takes with Alix Wilton Regan. (That's Conal being spit on.) N7 Day... Goose Cam... Videos with VAs for DAI and MEA... The javelin suits cosplays were one of the things he got going, too. There's a lot more. Basically almost anything you saw being posted by BioWare from 2013 to 2018 probably had him behind it in some way, shape, or form. (And yeah, I guess it's actually been just over a year since he left; time telescopes for me.) That being said, if this discussion continues, we should probably start a new thread for it. I knew about spit takes and the corn maze but those were hardly relating to a community to any great extent. I guess I was just used to that position having direct interaction with the fan base via forums and such.

In general you pay for what you see. The essential gameplay things like slots are quite reasonable. Shortcut stuff is pricey but mostly not needed if you play with a longer horizon i.e. stick with game for some time. There are premium cosmetics - quite pricey but they are usually exceptionally well done. A nice way to pay for the time spend enjoying the new content in between. There arent really lootboxes. A couple of card packs buyable but I wonder who bbuys these. Warframe micros are paid for with Platinum (in-game currency that is bought with real money but can also be traded for with other players so in theory you can never give them a penny of your own) or direct money purchases for TennoGen (user generated content). 1 platinum bought under the most unfavourable circumstances (smallest pack of 75 platinum at no discount for 4.49 €) costs 6 euro-cent. However, the daily login reward may randomly award a player with a discount between 20% and 75% for their next platinum purchase. Many microtransactions are just shortcuts to things you can grind for yourself, like buying a new warframe (between 225 and 375 platinum). So far I never found that necessary, I own almost all available warframes in the game and I'm essentially a one man clan. More interesting are the "unavoidable" micros, i.e. things that you cannot gain through gameplay. These are: - warframe inventory slots: 20 platinum per slot (exception: both night wave seasons so far had one warframe slot and two robotic slots among their rewards) - weapon inventory slots: 12 platinum for two slots I kinda forgot the exact prices for robotic slots (for sentinels and their weaponry) and stasis chambers (for doggos / kittens) but they are in the same ballpark. The wiki page with an overview of the in-game market is here. TennoGen (user generated content) prices are generally about 6,- € for a syandana (cloak) or helmet, and about 8,- € for an alternate warframe skin. Maybe Apex's solution is to increase the amount of grind needed to access those costly cosmetics; with a reduction in the price of course. IIRC, Warframe is unique in this situation because it also allows for trading; something Apex doesn't. I wouldn't think people would be that opposed to having a relatively lengthy grind for high-end cosmetics, though I guess it depends on how distinct the cosmetic is. I've only briefly perused the subreddit, but most people tend to be happy with the $10 battlepass. Maybe they could add $20 and $50 versions with significantly more items in them to grind for.

I've only briefly perused the subreddit, but most people tend to be happy with the $10 battlepass. Maybe they could add $20 and $50 versions with significantly more items in them to grind for. The premium or "deluxe" skins are exclusive for purchase in Warframe, tho. Means you can only buy them, they are not grindable @around 10 bucks cash expense depending on your currency. They are giftable, but not tradeable afaik. But there is a vast, VAST amount of other stuff to grind or unlock. I guess it's so your pruchase doesn't get devalued by market mechanics.
I dont know how much stuff Apex Legends has. I also hear that they are boxed in looty boxes. I can see it being annoying when there is only little to unlock compared to what is just available for cash. Gotta strike a balance there.
I don't think every average player needs every cosmetic there is, neither. Especially not when there is so much to choose from it'd take a day to just equip all the different options. You get what you like and that's it. But maybe Warframe variety has just spoilt me ungrateful, entitled customer. I should embrace EA's superior monetisation and get my wallet.
*oops* - it's empty. Too bad. I already bought other stuff. Sorry, EA.

Reading the last couple of pages makes me realize just how out-of-touch I am with modern gaming. I don't even know what some of the terms mean. You only need to know that the Orphid-skin for Saryn gets rid of the rigid cage around her hips and replaces it with a light swinging skirt, that goes whoosh when jumping and doing the crazy parkour and you finally get to see the full glory of that chassis.

did anyone else see footage of a lady walking in armor that looked like dragon age style? Like in the upcoming fast clips things? I grabbed a blurry ass screen shot but I have no friggin clue how to put it on here. I’m guessing it’s not...but it shook me with how similar it was. Also the helmet was badass. BioWare, how far did you step up your helmet game?

After the Incredible Hulk quick clip. It’s shows a lady walking in blue, and then again in fur/leather armor. I managed to grab better screen shots but have no clue how to get them on here from my iPad. It’s probably not it...but reminded me heavily of it. Desperation can eclipse sense after all.
