I want to be honest i am not a fan what they are alive because if something is extinct this should mean something. But yeah fanservice i guess. It's not something that came from this game. A previous book, Last Flight, talked about how some eggs survived.

I think if they just renamed the trailer to '' Meet Your Companions '' or something, it probably would've gone over better. Now it reads as THE trailer for the game itself, when it's... not really that? Technically true. But let's be real. What we saw on Dragon Age social media yesterday is not organic. No matter what they did, it was going to lead to massive negative reception because it's BioWare. I have never seen anything like it. It's been a decade. No way this is real. Someone joked about it before but it's kinda true, in that BioWare as a company might be straight up doomed in the PR department because it has such an overwhelming negative perception from people who hate "woke" shit. If I want to be cynical, the only one to diminish that is to straight up "appease" that base, by giving us busty sexy female characters and hardass white male manly man fighters. Do we really wanna do that though? That isn't nessassary. You only need to distracked them from the companion. Make a trailer where fighting is the highlight not the companions.
Show the enemies so straight male can hype over that. The woke people can only bash, if to little people like it.

One sentiment I've long felt is that Bioware have been somewhat too focused on the companions and the ensemble cast. I love Mass Effect, but I didn't love it initially because of Wrex, Tali etc, rather I loved it because of its world, and plot. Even Mass Effect 2, I believe it's always been a misinterpretation to believe the companions carried the game. In truth the ME2 companions never banter, hardly speak outside of loyalty missions, and have scant few Normandy conversations if they aren't being romanced. What carried the game was the loyalty, and recruitment missions that put us in a wide variety of situations, and worlds. Whether it be espionage with Garrus, or medieval clan escapades with Grunt for example. I think the same with Origins too. Morrigan, and Alistair were alright, but the the main story, and locations along the way, like Orzammar, ultimately made the game great. Whereas, I would say from the Citadel DLC onwards, it has been like Bioware have been so focused on building up a companion group we'll love, that they forget to build a substantial plot, and interesting world to explore. In a way, connection to companions has to be earned, and that needs to be done by marching through half decent plots with them, and not just making them the focus. BioWare definitely seemed to take the ‘people liked citadelflc’ without the context of it being liked because it was the culmination of 3 games of more serious characterisation.

There was a novel Last Flight maybe when someone find eggs I think. I don't remember much except griffon coming back was hinted. Yeah, that was the whole climax of that story. It revealed the cause of the Griffin’s extinction was abuse of blood magic forcing Griffins to go through the joining to extend their fights against the darkspawn and making them fiercer. The blood mage responsible for creating this rite realized she had inadvertently created a transmissible plague that would kill off the griffins. She magically preserved an untainted clutch of eggs as an act of penance, which were discovered around the timeframe of Inquisition.

As The Elder King said, the Last Flight novel (released in 2014) explain why there are baby Gryphon again. Short version: a Grey Warden mage put a batch of eggs in stasis at the end of the 4th Blight and it was rediscovered centuries later in 9:41 and reanimated.

Guys i already know since Last Flight even release in 2014 aka 10 years ago but this doesn´t change my opinon on them at all. Again what´s the point in saying that something is extinct if those doesn´t mean anything?

Btw I'm team Varric dies. And I would be OK with it. Good storytelling needs gut wrenching deaths like Mordin.
Seriously, it would make a lot of sense for Varric to die. It's just a very common narrative element for beloved characters passing on the torch.

No i know its crazy but i am huge Varric fan but i wouldn´t feel anything but just anger. Not for his murderer but the Bioware writers. Come on the mentor character has to die. "How original and clever from them" Is this no good storytelling. I also feel absolutely nothing when Han Solo has been killed off.

I want to be honest i am not a fan what they are alive because if something is extinct this should mean something. But yeah fanservice i guess. They've been setting up the return of griffons at least since DAI - Last Flight has already been mentioned; I'll only bring up that Blackwall - if made Warden and romanced - in Trespasser epilogue will send a letter containing a white griffon feather. The implication there is obvious. ...So they would return! Its' a common thing in stories - such returns from supposed extinction usually spell a return of something else, or some sort of impending change. I mean, the same thing happened with dragons in Thedas. For a time people thought they were extinct, only for them to return. It's literally why the Age we're playing in has been called the "Dragon Age".

So, by this sneak-peek and specifically the dialogue between Rook and Varric, it looks like we start the game by "re-doing" what Varric and Harding did in The Missing comic, maybe? Edit: Don't know, if I'm not mistaken, Varric says those exactly same words in the #4 of the comics. Or at least, the game starts exactly where The Missing ended? And that makes no sense.

It's just a very common narrative element for beloved characters passing on the torch. The lead writer is the person who gave us Mordin's death...and to pick between the warden and Hawke in DAI and Talis vs Legion in ME3 I believe.
But Patrick said the other writers wrote sadder stuff than he did for DAVe.

Everyone, how does it feel to finally get news? Remember long years of info starvation? Kinda weird. Like I'm already contemplating if I will tune out of further marketing after tomorrow's reveal. But at the same time the marketing just started so I'm conflicted, but I don't want everything spoiled and I feel like these days marketing just outright spoils everything to try to sell stuff rather than keep any secrets.
