You can spot the Veil Jumpers studying ancient elven artifacts here - and nugs, if you're clever enough to find them. #DragonAge #Veilguard (There's a pretty little screenshot there of a Qunari Mage Rook, Bellara, and Emmrich.) ...NUGS?! As an original fan, what we've learnt so far is very disappointing. BioWare can keep this DEI "masterpiece" DOA while I go enjoy DAO and DA2. Both of which have excellent story and character progression, not to mention gameplay. Is this "no more than three spell/talent" thing what other fans wanted? EDIT. That was a genuine question by the way. Can you tell me what exactly is DEI in the game? We know not much of the story or the companions. At the moment. The only thing that isn't like DAO is the gameplay and the dialog-wheel.
To your question. Maybe you read what people have write here.
They don't want to see black elves or lgbt people in their games. Ignore this. He cannot be an original fan. Gay characters have always been in the game and if they're finally honoring the fact that people of color exist it's about time. Best to just ignore people like this. They are crazy with intolerance.

Yeah "DEI" in contexts like these is just the latest dogwhistle for "we don't like when inclusivity is prioritized." Nevermind that DAO and DA2 both have people who are queer, nevermind that DAO and DA2 both have people who aren't white. DAO even rather famously came under fire for the male PC being able to romance a queer, racially ambiguous elf man. My eyes can't roll far enough for this complaint.
As an "original fan" who got into the franchise with DAO and still loves DAO the most, I'm excited to see more disabled characters in fantasy settings; usually writers act like the fantasy is that there are no disabilities, which kinda sucks to read and view when you have disabilities yourself. I absolutely love Neve's prosthetic leg and can't wait to learn if Taash's prosthetic horn also comes with a degree of hearing loss on the side that she lost the horn on. I'm absolutely souped with the knowledge that we can adjust gameplay, and I'm really glad I can tailor the combat to make it more inclusive for me. Thank you very much, BioWare devs!

Not sure why people are surprised to find any of these in Bioware games, it's not like it's news. If Bioware is "failing" it's hardly because they finally added a black male companion in DA. Personally, I think it's nice not seeing the same types of characters recycled over and over again and to have some variation.

Joker is an excellent example for a character with a disability in game - we got to play him for a short time and you had to move him very cautiously.
This is leagues better than the "skin deep" diversity where it's essentially just a paint job - the character looks and/or talks like they suffer from some debilitating condition but actually plays just as fine as their healthy, athletic companions. Curious to see what kind Neve will turn out to be.

As I recentl ysaw a thread on youtube about someone complaining about the accessibilityoptions and how i twould cheapen the game. I think SofaJockey saw it too as we both I thin kcommented on it. I responded b yasyin gwh ydon' tyou g oplay Elden Ring then if yo uwant things hard. I know soulsbourn egames aren't for me. As personally I like the fact Bioware has included this Bioware have always made their games accessible and I'm glad Veilguard will be no different because I for one want to see and enjoy the rest of this story and what happens with Solas and Varric and the rest of Thedas.

Being upset about the option of using easier and more accessible difficulty levels is hilarious to me - how does that harm you in any way? Play it whatever way you prefer and don't give a damn about others lol. While I have liked and appreciated the tactical side of the combat in DA games, it really isn't the bread and butter of the franchise as much as the characters and story.

Funnily enough some of the sites immediately jumping to criticise Bioware over the characters in DAV, I have noticed have done this before with practically every game and TV series that comes out. Instead of turning me off DAV, it has now made me far more wary of their opinion with regard to anything else. I would imagine it would be the same for anyone who has actually played previous Dragon Age games and even more so if they have also played Mass Effect. Some online critics are just going for the clicks.

Are people really upset about the difficulty levels? I moderate a Mass Effect discord and every now and then we have someone come into who plays games in a really sweaty manner, and they get upset that MEA apparently has a really low skill ceiling that caters to people who play on lower difficulties vs people who like to play on nightmare/insanity mode. Apparently it's bad when you do this, and it makes games bad/poorly designed when you do this. lol (yes, people get upset about difficulty settings a lot. Especially if they prioritize combat over like, literally anything else.)

My view? These people are one dimensional. They may be excellent at nightmare combat but totally inept at many other things. They probably live in their parents' basement gaming all day but good at nothing else. I just ignore them.
A good game design allows for multiple skill levels and difficulty tiers to satisfy a wide range of player gaming capabilities.

The important thing is how well the difficulties are balanced. ME2 was near perfect for me. I usually start on default and almost always manage fine. ME1 was my first shooter and I died even on Easy, lol. And I never ventured above Normal. Now ME2 had me bump it up every new PT. I could eventually do the second most difficult. Insanity just wasn't fun so I didn't bother but I think it was scaled well.
Now DAI on Normal felt like previous BioWare games on Easy. Zero challenging. Mind numbingly boring. That was poor design imo. Normal should not be this easy. But I assume Nightmare is challenging so that's fine I guess. I just didn't care for combat in DAI so I didn't bother making stuff more bullet spongey.
A good learning curve is satisfying. And BioWare ain't making Dark Souls. I would guess that most fans don't play their games for the combat challenge. Can be a part of it but I don't think BioWare attracts any of those hardcore gamer snobs who don't realize how pathetic it is to build your self worth on how well you play a stupid videogame. Kinda makes me wish they get arthritis as they age or a disability and then they'll finally appreciate story mode. Many aging gamers, especially RPG fans, I know play an casual mode now.

as we both I thin kcommented on it. Yes, it's always nice to recognise a BSNer out in the 'real world'. And yes, one poster was accusing BioWare of 'cheapening the game' to allow anyone to play it.

(Immediately gets flashback of doing the ME2 Collector Ship mission on Insanity difficulty)
