I just played KotoR 1 and 2 earlier this year and they were both RTWP. Maybe there's a turn based mod or something, but it isn't a feature of the base game. What I've noticed with RTWP is that you can kind of get into the rhythm of the engine's turns, so your pauses line up with them. Maybe it feels like turn based in that regard. Regardless, I don't really care that Veilguard doesn't have RTWP or turn based. From what Kala and Ghil Dirthalen said in their live chat video, the combat sounds fun to me. Any type of combat system can be fun if it's done well, and I adapt to new systems all the time. Yeah it's good t ohav edifferent games t ohav e diffreen tsystems t ohelp differentiate them from on eanother. Suer ther eare som things about Veilguard tha tconcern m ebu tI'm bo tentirel ysure I'll know whethe rI can ge tcomfortabl ewit hthe muntil I'v etriedth egame. I ha dsimila rconcerns wit hAndromeda but after playing I foun dsome of the things I wa sworried about bein som eo fth emos tfun parts of the experience. So I'm not going to write Veilguard off yet s oyea hI'm no ttha tbothered suer I'll use the power wheel to fire off my and m ycompanions poewrs as I generall ydo as I find tha teasie rthan trying t oaim and fire them rea ltime but I don tneccessaril yneed turn based in combat as long as it still feels accessible

So now I have to take fashion into account too when making my character??? Curse you Bioware for making this so hard, lol! I really can't decide what I want at this point, I want the CC soooo bad because I know I'm going to spend days in it before I decide what to run.

What are BG3 like games? Bioware never does TB, or do i miss a game?
For more recent games, there are the two Divinity Original Sin games plus BG3 (Larian), the two Pathfinder games (Owlcat), and the two Pillars of Eternity games (Obsidian), but perhaps no recent turn based (or pause) AAA games with outstanding graphics and 3rd person perspective. DAI inquisition was the last of these AAA pause or turn based RPGs I think. Maybe there are other AA games with pause or turn based combat, but I cannot recall any. It will probably be three or more years before a new quality turn-based (or pause) AA RPG is released. Okay. I understand. For me RTWP and TB are very different.

For me it is like that:
ARPG - DA2 - DAI - DAO - BG1-2 - - - BG3
Unless i misunderstand what you're saying here but i'm curious why you think that DA2 is closer to ARPG than DAI. DAI didn't even have an auto attack (at least on PC), which is pretty common for action games. Action games aren't auto attack for me. Action is a fast combat with pushing many different buttons and no pause like in the witcher. DAI was slower. I played it on Playstation and DA2 on PC. In DA2 i wasn't fast enough to press pause to get the right set up in combat. So i lost many times and give up. I never get to Kirkwall myself. In DAI i didn't need the pause because it was so slow. DAI is action+tactical. DA2 is action with pause integrated. DAO is tactical and i needed the pause.

Game Director Corinne Busche said: This is a much higher actions-per-minute game. It is more technically demanding on the player. So when we tried allowing you full control of your companions as well, what we've found is it wasn’t actually adding to the experience. In fact, in some ways it was detrimental, given the demanding nature of just controlling your own character. Technically more demanding on the player? Why not let the player decide that? Wasn't adding to the experience? For me, having control over the companions added replay value. I would like to ask the employees, at least the one's who worked on the previous DA games, if they had the same thoughts but were overthrown by the higher ups who ignored their concerns. I would ask Busche would she remove the playable companion mechanic from the previous games if she was in charge? Hmmm.......If they don't show anymore gameplay before the release, I might hold off getting on day one until I see some gameplay videos on youtube. Maybe ask the community counsel they have played the game and loved the gameplay. Kala and Ghil talked about it in their talk video.

WE sure that is a warrior? I'm getting rogue like visions with the hood, the armor, and the knife. Perhaps it is just standard Rook wear whatever your class. It is just a breastplate and shoulder guards, so not too heavy for a mage and the lyrium blade is likely something specific to all Rooks too. Likewise the cloak with a hood is standard adventuring wear, whilst the face mask is just them being ambiguous over the sex/race/skin colour of the PC so no one feels left out (although it would have to be a hornless qunari).

They make the combat sound like Devil May Cry. From footage we've seen it looks like DAI basically - I can't imagine it's that fast paced.

Classic BioWare. Soon. Soon never changes. They definitely need to trademark that phrase lol. "Soon" originated nearly 40 years ago. gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/23112/where-did-soon-originateSoon™ almost certainly originated from the term "Real Soon Now" that was originally popularized by Jerry Pournelle to describe software with vague release dates in his articles in BYTE magazine. He used the term at least as early as 1984 (BYTE Magazine, November 1984, page 374, first column).

OK, fair enough. I don't agree that DA2 is an action game, but i understand where you're coming from.

It may be a little faster, but not so fast we shouldn't be able to handle controlling other characters. Someone brought up DA2 being more of action game than DAI, and I somewhat agree. DA2 was quite fast and frenetic, and the wave spawning enemies also added a level of chaos not in DAI. All in all, combat is one of the things I care least about in a Dragon Age game. Although, what we're hearing about DAV being more like MEA is a little disturbing. MEA had the worst combat in the series. Far too arcadey, and too few powers.
