So the orb and daggers are a set? Interesting.

Also, is the orb really a weapon? There was a tweet by Corinne Busche where she mentioned Orb toss, but it was one of the mage spells. Mike Gamble stated an orb/dagger, so it would definitely seem to be a weapon and not a spell. May be it is an orb that can convert to a dagger, rather like Bellara's doodad that converts to a bow. For reference. If this is the orb weapon, I may have to change my plans from being a dagger mage. This thing is awesome. It may be something specific to Irelin but, as I say above, may be it has multiple uses like Bellara's gizmo, so it can both channel magic (which is what orbs are meant to do) and convert to a dagger. Thinking about it, Solas' blade channels magic so it isn't such a wild idea that an orb could double as a blade. Okay, scrub my previous comment, now we know what it is. Wow, that looks awesome. Spell Blade here I come.

I thought Mages were also dual wielding daggers, but they aren't. They are holding a dagger in the left hand and a orb float in the other one. And now I kinda which it was a grimoire instead of an orb....

Raytracing preview (plus mage sneak peek) It seems like mage gameplay is just as attack-oriented and "action-y" as I feared. I'm glad I decided to recast my Inquisitor instead (as one of the last true mages). Lol shit I had the exact opposite reaction: It seems like mage gameplay is just as attack-oriented and "action-y" as I hoped. I'm glad I decided to have a mage PC for the first time since my Warden.

If there is one thing that i always missed from DAO combat is that you can switch between weapons.

“Mage” combat looks awful and very boring. Just what I thought it would be when I heard mages were reduced to only having 3 spells. I put mage in quotation marks because it doesn’t look like a mage to me.

Given what Gamble said and the fact that you'll always have access to a dagger, since every class has two set of weapons, it's quite likely standard mages will have a dagger/orb set similar to the warrior's sword/shield.

I remember back in the day that my frustration with Inquisition's mage combat was that the mage was rooted to the spot and wasn't really mobile while casting spells. Effectively a giant siege gun in the middle of the battlefield. I remember this being quite a common complaint from others in regards to Inquisition's mage combat. And now that a mage can once again move across the battlefield dynamically and cast spells its boring and does not look like a mage anymore?

From what I heard the "there's only 3 spells" is not accurate - there will be 5 (at least according to people who were on Community Council).

Raytracing preview (plus mage sneak peek) I'm actually tempted to make my character into a mage after seeing clips of that. That gameplay looks soooo buttery smooth and engaging. Probbaly a forum faux paux and certainly not how I typically do things. But actually went back to check on stuff and saw this post and I will admit the thought did briefly cross my mind. Like I am so invested with what my first Rook wants to be that I do doubt it but this mage combat actually does look pretty fun, and at the risk of slight hypocricy I am also kind of worried about how bow combat is going to work in the game. Like I know they said there is a whole spec devoted to it and it can be OP...but will it be fun and engaging? Will there be enough variety? And saying something in marketing speak is cool and all and BioWare still has a lot of trust credit with me but seeing it is entirely different...and really imo the bow part of the bow rogue hasn't really been the best since Origins. In the end it will probably be fine and likeable but still I will worry until we can actually see some gameplay on it and what not because in essense the mage stuff looks really good.

Yeah should have done some clarification and I kind of did forget about Fade Step honestly but Knight Enchanter was the only real fun way to play mages because it did add some mobility to them...I believe the arcane sword attack that they had ALSO had some movement but pretty much all the other basic attacks and spells were rooted to one spot and thus was not fun for me or many others.

I would be interested in seeing some archer gameplay as that's what I usually play first in all DA games and what I have planned for DAtV. The melee mage stuff doesn't look fun to me as I play mage and archer to be ranged because that's my preferred play style. Hopefully we'll get to see some bow action soon. I think the guy in the game play trailer was a rogue but he seemed to switch back and forth and i prefer ranged only rogue.
