I understand people want freedom to design characters how they want, but at same time, so much of CC criticism has strong 'oh you like reading? name every book' energy. Also for the last time, the character models are proportional. Multiple people now have sat down and measured them to determine it. The fact that people have measured them tells me that I'm not the only one noticing the unusual proportions. Are they within the bounds of standard human proportions? Of course. They remind me of a friend from high school (and earlier). She was petite and had a proportionately large head. We used to chuckle about it. She wouldn't have stood out in a crowd, but a crowd of similarly proportioned people definitely would've prompted some, "WTH is this?" It's the same with these characters. It's uncanny that so many of them have big heads and narrow, rounded shoulders. I hope the CC has the capability of "correcting" it for my eyes, but I'm prepared for it to simply be a feature of the art style. It's not going to ruin anyone's fun, but we don't have to pretend it isn't a thing. Edit: Taash looks awesome. She's my favorite character visually. I hope I can create a protagonist that can keep up with her!

For GOTY, sadly, Shadow of the Eritree will most likely not even be considered, given that it is a "DLC".
I hope that Veilguard manages to at least come close.

People are measuring them because a reddit post was made talking about the issue and it blew up into a major talking point. With that said, how a model parses on a screen is different from having accurate proportions. It's akin to having actors wear makeup to look "correct" under artificial lighting, even though if you saw them in real life they'd look very strange.

They look like fat heads with weak shoulders on my screen right now. 😋 I'm not surprised that Reddit has discussed it to death. If I had to guess, the initial observation and post was probably reasonable, and then the hate mob took it and ran with it. I mostly avoid Reddit. It's not a huge deal to me, just something that I'd change if I could. A little artistic style is good for games, helping to detour around the uncanny valley; but I tend to prefer as much realism as possible. For now, the preponderance of wee shoulders and big heads pulls my brain away from the action on the screen. I'm sure I'll be numb to it after an hour or two of playing the game.

I noticed something was off, and artists like Kala clocked the lack of heroic proportions right away, but they mostly look fine in motion to me. YMMV, of course. Reddit can easily become an echo chamber, but I've found it a lot more tolerable than most of Youtube lately.

The only thing that bothers me is what's his name Lucanis has sausage fingers. Hands are always an issue (DA2 horrible bony hands of doom ) but now we have sausages. Look at his thumb. Bit of spoilery image.

Bit of spoilery image. What you're talking about in this shot is lens distortion making the objects on the foreground wider than they are. Such lens distortion is usually used for scenes with uneasy atmosphere (and the guy just got a nosebleed from a demon he's an unwilling host of) If you look at his hands in other shots, they aren't really different from hands of others.

I've seen different lens distortions, depth of field and fov changes in a few of the cutscenes, they went with a more cinema feel.

The really hilarious thing to me (as an artist) is that the Veilguard proportions are IMO visually the closest to DAO proportions (with the exception of better hands and feet).

That's a cool observation (about the fingers and intentional distortion), and it reinforces my belief that the game will look way better live and in motion. It's too easy to see "oddities" out of context and not understand how they actually work well in context.

Why the last trailer had mixed reception? I assume the cinematics were cool but it also really showcased how useless the companions are in combat.

Why the last trailer had mixed reception? Not here, but elsewhere. Yes. I saw a thread that was full of negative opinions on it (mostly that it looked boring), in a place that had so far been rather positive about the game. But I didn't exactly check the users, could be that a bunch of trolls/haters bandwagonned the thread.

Why the last trailer had mixed reception? I assume the cinematics were cool but it also really showcased how useless the companions are in combat. Why the last trailer had mixed reception? Something something Rook's mage robes have no FEMININE CURVES™? To each their own. I've seen a great reception in the Bioware and Ign channels. In the ps5 channel, it had 5 human rights violation for post. I've seen something mixed here in the BSN and on reddit, but it honestly came out as a collectively weird nitpicking. Honestly, even though the companions being useless in combat is a relevant point, I believe the trailer adressed issues such as "is this game dark fantasy enough"? And other stuff that was being asked of the marketing since day one. And I feel like they did greatly and this is my favorite trailer so far. It seems like people who already decided to hate the game will hate, not matter how many tricks Bioware has in store.

For real, haha.
It was probably more to fit the meme than anything, but it also depends on where you look I imagine. I liked the latest trailer a lot, even though the night shots maybe could've been better lit.
