If no early CC, at least give us some more videos to ovulate to until release, BioWare! 😩 I feel like you should change that terminology if you want to hear new things... after all, you can only ovulate once per month therefore it follows that BW drops news sparingly

Here I am thinking the character models look better than ever. XD and I don’t see a real difference in style in the environments. I can still see the distinct architectural styles for elven vs dwarven vs Tevinter. Trees are trees. lol Darkspawn have apparently gotten a redesign and I haven’t looked close enough at one to see if, but aside from that, i like it. Just feels like Inquisition, but with less jagged edges in the models to me. I think it was maybe Epler who mentioned somewhere that the darkspawn look different for story-related reasons, so I understood that as "events depicted in game are affecting the darkspawn, it isn't a question of redesign for the sake of redesign". I wanted to mention this here because the "new" darkspawn have been complained about in some instances as "BW ruined the darkspawn".

We are aware that our knowledge of the Taint is superficial at best. Its potential is obviously bigger. Now the experts with Taint know-how are back in town and they are cooking.
Frankly, I am thinking the Grey Wardens might be a surprise liability now.

Issue with darskpawn redesign is not that it doesn't have a reason, but that it looks silly. It's a question of execution moreso than justification. But people complain in every iteration about darkspawn, it seems, for one reason or another. So maybe it's just a lost cause. I will say, to add onto complaints about Mass Effect-ification, some of the darkspawn basically look like husks. I understand why that irritates people.
Environment is basically Inquisition expanded upon. Some of the assets are pretty clearly from that game, especially the architecture.
My biggest concern about character models was qunari, but after seeing CC in full I'm not really worried. I would have preferred them taller, but the painterly art style is very striking.

Frankly, I am thinking the Grey Wardens might be a surprise liability now. It would make sense considering Solas' attitude towards the Wardens. And one particular Achievement title might sort of tie into it. If we off Ghilan'nain, will that end the Blights and make the Wardens obsolete?

Ah, that's a fair point which I hadn't thought of. I've basically spent the time watching videos of the gameplay thinking "How am I ever going to fight like this?!" instead of really examining their appearance.

I think we've been going the wrong way about the early CC - I mean, sure, there is something to be said about manifestation - but what about the power of Zero Fs? Some of the best things that have happened to me, just came my way, fell on my lap, whatever... when I didn't give a sh*t. Like, stop caring and it'll happen. Heck, never care at all and then it definitely happens. So, let's all hit BW on socials with "We don't care about your stupid CC!", forget about it, and it'll be here by tomorrow. :nods:

Yeah, the choice of art style is what’s most jarring and really hard to swallow, of all things. I’m low-key trying to de-program my eyeballs and mind, doing some major mental gymnastics to like lean into it, try to accept and embrace it, to be able to enjoy the game, like, real talk. Because, it is what it is… 🤷♀️ The best CC they’ve ever given us, the best hair tech and options I’ve ever seen, and this is the style they decide to go with… kinda boggles the mind. Actually a little heartbreaking, tbh. I am not usually someone that kicks up a fuss about art styles. I have played a lot of games over a lot of years and I'm trying to think if there have been any where I have thought the visuals were that bad that it took away from the rest of the game. Off the top of my head I can't really think of any. I did hate the art style of DA2 at first - but I hated every inch of that game when I first played it. That first trailer drop, however. The one everyone hated that looked like a Fortnite season reveal. That had me cringing a lot at the whole look. It was very Live Service game - of which of course it was, once upon a time going to be. I feel like I would be finding it less jarring if that hadn't have been my introduction to it. I haven't recoiled in horror at the rest - although I am not loving the plasticine smooth faces. I can live with it. Actually I tell a lie about not recoiling in horror. I've just remembered that infamous Qunari. I am looking forward to seeing how creative people get in that CC. There are going to be some absolute monstrosities.

I mean, the new art style is controversial for a reason. Most RPG players who were old enough to play DAI at launch grew up looking forward to better graphics and, hand in hand with that, more realism, and it was a bit of a shock to see the art style veer in a different direction. Obviously many people like it, but that doesn't mean those who don't have opinions that are any less valid - assuming they're held in good faith, of course.
I myself am really excited and happy about DAV, but I'm not going to lie and say I love their new design. Having said that, I accept it. It was a deliberate decision by Bioware, and obviously they thought it was the best decision for the enduring health of the franchise, so I'll just be content that we're getting the best game Bioware wanted to make.
The unplayable Inquisitor, though... *grumble grumble*
Also, I don't really care about pre-release CC. I consider it a rite of passage that I don't actually play the game proper until a couple of days after I've downloaded it and spent at least 10 hours making mistakes in the CC.

Eye of the beholder, and all that. But I'd appreciate if people talked about how DAVe art direction is not for them, individually, and not make it seem like everyone disapproves of it. I, for one, quite enjoy it. And I know I'm not the only one. Just assume people posting on forums are stating their own opinions. You post this same comment all the time. It's old. You know better.

Geforce now is teasing a new game coming, with something really purple. I just bought a bloody new pc, I mean i'd play it on Geforce now, no download, ultra settings with no struggling pc ...what's not to love. But I'd have to scream for 5 minutes. It's probably not DATV, though.

Bio's inclusivity mantra makes sense if the body sliders were coded to give a wider range of propotions to every character model. ... taller, wider, thinner, shorter, cartoonish, beautiful, meh.... etc.
Oh, where are my beautiful desire demons? Does the game have ugly Brood Mothers somewhere to be found?
Btw, any videos of the Deep Roads?... I really enjoyed having Oghren with me in DAO. and exploring them in DA2.

Consistency in a visual style in a franchise is my preference.... ME as an example. The danger with a new art direction with every iteration of DA is putting off your fan base with the new look. I don't like the colour purple much (i've read it's not a colour) everywhere or the environment hinting at purple... plain too much for me. It's as if I develop an allergy or something... It's not a deal breaker... perhaps I can increase the game's default brightness...

In the vein of peacefully stating ones opinions, my least favourite art style was DAO. I mean, that game did so many other things so damn right, but visual design was cookie cutter for the worst and "well... brown." for the most part. That's why I appreciate they went to experiemnt with flashier themes, spikes in DA2, green in DAI, and now purple in DAV. There's different things I like and dislike about each game's look, but I think each one kept mostly the good things and discarded the bad ones.
(Since this rarely comes up; I specifically appreciate MEA's return to a more sleek "scuba" suits look rather than the more generic space armor the OT gradually descended into. Because I loved that about ME1, it looked very unique yet practical)
Meanwhile in insane news; as a graphic designer I have always had a weird inclination towards purple. I almost always try making stuff purple when I'm at a loss, even though it never sticks; kind of like how I always briefly keep a moustache when shaving.

I also loved 1 and MEA's look vs. what was in 2 and 3. I LOVE the combination of purple/pink + grey. I just freaking love it. There is something in it that just works for me (and seemed to work for the audiences - the last work I did for a city theatre 12 years ago when working as graphic designer). A bit greyish/blue-greyish picture + purple/pink logo - oh my!

And here I am still seeing virtually no difference between it and Inquisition's... Honestly this is exactly the point I keep coming back to time and time again.
I genuinely don't think it looks that different at all. If anything, it just feels like a more successful execution of what Inquisition's art style was already aiming for - you can really see it in how some of the faces have that almost 'sculpted' quality to them.
It's all completely subjective of course but I really can't help but feel some people are reacting the way they are because they've been told it's radically different rather than anything they're actually seeing with their own eyes.

I almost always try making stuff purple when I'm at a loss, even though it never sticks; kind of like how I always briefly keep a moustache when shaving. Ha, one thing I've learned working with designers(UI/UX), is that they love magenta.
