Imagine caring about an award show hosted by the Doritos Pope. Yeaaaa but let's not forget Inquisition was GOTY and it was considered a big success for that game, not even getting a nomination is a bit of an embarrassment for DAV. Not really, the competition is much tougher this year than in 2014 (even if I did feel that Inquistion was great).

Wow not even one important nomination (not even for best RPG game)...pretty pathetic for Bioware especially after those "great" reviews. I thought most people liked this game..weird Imagine caring about an award show hosted by the Doritos Pope. I don't care about it but it's just more ammunition and I'm tired. I can't even enjoy dragon age social media anymore cause people are either angry about it or defensive. I just want cool art and fun analysis.

They did pay for the high review scores to push the sales of this game. Its pretty obvious now especially since some have turned on the game after the backlash (see IGN suddenly trashing the game, alongside a few others) and the overall player reception has been very lackluster basically everywhere IGN isn't "suddenly trashing the game." Reviewer Leana Hafer gave it 9/10. Another IGN contributor, Matt Purslow, was more critical. Those are two different people. Publications aren't hive minds. Gamers really need to stop resorting to conspiracy theories to explain away others having different opinions.

Does that make them a bad dev team?

Honestly I always felt like Inquisition winning the 2014 GoTY was sort of make-believe. It was the first GoTY awards to ever take place, by the way. So it is not like we are talking about a well-established prize ceremony with a long tradition.
Regardless, I did like Inquisition, quite a lot. If you ask me, I actually Veilguard a tad little more. But neither are worth of GoTY, I reckon. They are 8/10 games for me, and I quite sure there are games better than 8/10 out there.

Rebirth alone would’ve swept the awards if it were released then.

Does that make them a bad dev team? According to Google Game Awards were established in 2014. So after what a lot of people would say were BW's best years to put it lightly.

Black Myth alone would’ve swept the awards if it were released then. Yeah, 2014 was a down gaming year. It's toughest competition was Shadows of Mordor and people were saying it should win because of its innovative "nemesis system" AI :S

I'm confused. According to many wise youtubers, BW/EA paid for the high review scores, why they didn't pay now for goty? They did pay for the high review scores to push the sales of this game. Its pretty obvious now especially since some have turned on the game after the backlash (see IGN suddenly trashing the game, alongside a few others) and the overall player reception has been very lackluster basically everywhere At this point they know its best to just act like it never happened, just like with Andromeda. If they bought a GOTY nomination the backlash would be crazy. EA doesn't want that By your logic, if a player is dumb enough to buy the game just because some site/youtuber gave it 9/10, imagine what will be if the game is officially GOTY.

Indeed - per Matt Purslow: As I enter The Veilguard’s second half I have begun to appreciate its unique approaches. The knotty, secrets-filled Crossroads region is fun to explore. The action combat is really robust, particularly when enhanced by the well-considered skill tree.

Is it tho? So much tougher that not even getting a nomination for a game 10-years-in-the-making seems completely valid? Compare the games DAI was going against in 2014 and now. Rebirth alone would’ve swept the awards if it were released then. If your best argument is that actually DAI was mediocre as well then...okay. I'm just saying that this is bad optics for BW right now and they reeaaaaally need a win. But I can't say DAV really deserves to be nominated, they played it too safe, the game is fun but that's about it.

The entire release has been bad optics due to the culture war nonsense and pointless pre-release drama like Wolfheart's pettiness making the rounds in the streamer community days before release so I don't think this makes things any worse.

Wow not even one important nomination (not even for best RPG game)...pretty pathetic for Bioware especially after those "great" reviews. I thought most people liked this game..weird Imagine caring about an award show hosted by the Doritos Pope. Interesting because fans seemed to care when Inquisition won GOTY and constantly mentioned it over the last decade Not even getting one important nomination for Veilguard is just embarassing for Bioware especially since this game was supposed to be a "return to form" and was hyped up a lot.

I'm sorry I need to understand what the point of this is? Until we get sales figures and performance metrics it's incredibly premature to say anything is embarrassing about BioWare. In fact people are *far* more focused on the drama regarding a DLC getting nominated than anything else. Nobody talking about Veilguard's nominations (or lack thereof) for this award show, for good or ill.

Bad sales, horrible player reception (no matter where you look) and now zero nominations and I doubt it gets any important awards from other publications either. Thats pretty bad considering before release Bioware and paid off critics were hyping it up as a return to form for Bioware..

It sits on 4/5 on PSN and around 7/10 on steam. I'd say player reception was good but not great. Hard to tell if it was a success until sales figures come out.

It's several tiers below movie awards which I feel have no value lol.
