There is a survey on Dragon Age Subreddit about Veilguard. There are around 1,800 responses so far. It contains spoilers btw. The results have lots of detail, but I've summarized some: - Demographics: 53% women, 41% men, 6% non-binary
- 51% play as elves. Women and non-binary people prefer playing as elves, while men prefer humans.
- All genders prefer playing as a mage. But the preference is weaker in men.
- Men prefer choosing Grey Warden as faction background, while women and non-binary people prefer Shadow Dragon.
- Emmrich is the most popular and highest rated companion, while Taash is rated lowest. This is true in all three demographics.
- The companion that is considered "Biggest disappointment" is Lucanis. This is true in all three demographics.
- Non-binary people rate the game highest, while men rate the game lowest. The average score is 3.4 out of 5.
- Combats and environments are highly rated, while writing and music have the lowest scores.
3.4 out of 5 is practically the same as BSN's score btw. So all the people here who say "oh BSN is so negative, I'm going to the reddit now because it's so much more positive" ... wooow lies! People across the board are rating it around 66-68% and I fully expect Steam to settle here also As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I called the N word and the F word on Reddit for simply liking Veilguard so it’s not like it’s any better than BSN lol.

What "BSN score"? Who did any sort of half-legit survey here? And in comparison to the amateur Internet survey based on 1,800 self-reported DA players? Like... how is it that more concrete metrics - like sales charts - are overly-analyzed to try and get a realistic picture of DAVe's success, but one small survey on Reddit is apparently the true and indisputable sentiment of "people across the board"? Apples and oranges ... sales success is not equal to game quality. VG could not even get nominated for RPG of the year. Is there only 1 GOTY/RPG Of The Year that's given every year??? Also, that's why I'm confused by the whole thing - at least sales are something more concrete, data-wise. But those surveys are about something as ephemeral and imprecise and hard to survey as general sentiment towards something, yet it's quoted - together with two more largely imprecise sources - as if they're painting a very concrete picture "across the board" (queue "that's not how it works!" meme)

And I've been saying the same thing for weeks now and people keep finding reasons to discount it We'll see how Veilguard will be remembered *shrugs*

People complain about COD, NBA 2K, Madden, all the time. I’ve seen YouTube videos saying that each installment is the worst game. Yet I keep seeing it on the top of best sellers every year. While quality is subjective and doesn’t correlate into sales, there’s clearly something people enjoy in those games. And I’m sure there’s people who saw something in Veilguard since it debuted at 6.

Ahhhh, the days of arguing on old BSN when DAI was under fire I swear to god, it sometimes ends with deja-vu. And yet, the cycle continues basically since DA began, so obviously I have to bring this again, because it keeps amusing me: Going over that article on DA:O's development, and this bit is the most BSN thing ever:

I've been part of BioWare fandom online in some shape or form since the Jade Empire days, and if there's one thing that never changes about BioWare fans it's this - their most recent game is always trash, everything before is either a flawless masterpiece or an underappreciated gem, there are no exceptions, the cycle cannot be broken.

There's SteamDB activity on the next #Veilguard update. Maybe Thursday again next week? 🤔 I'm tired of the Crossroads always respawning enemies in the same few locations.

It's just different opinions no one is more or less qualified to offer them.

So, you think a game is bad because it wasn't nominated for goty? What kind of logic is that.

FWIW, I was one of the guys trashing DA:O on the old boards. I absolutely hated bringing in MMO aggro mechanics.

People complain about COD, NBA 2K, Madden, all the time. I’ve seen YouTube videos saying that each installment is the worst game. Yet I keep seeing it on the top of best sellers every year. While quality is subjective and doesn’t correlation into sales, there’s clearly something people enjoy in those games. And I’m sure there’s people who saw something Veilguard since it debuted at 6. Ahhhh, the days of arguing on old BSN when DAI was under fire I swear to god, it sometimes ends with deja-vu. Yeah, as someone who was excited about Origins from the previews and in love by the time I got to Ostagar for the very first time, I'll never forget how shocked I was to go to the official forums on release day and see so many people trashing the game. Especially the one guy who made a thread saying 'this game is terrible because I can't zoom in far enough on my character!' People forget now, but a lot of the Baldur's Gate crowd who'd been promised a spiritual successor hated it. Which was fine, in the long run, because some of us Old Skool fans loved it and so did a whole lot of new people who'd never played a BioWare fantasy RPG before. At least this was good experience for every other Dragon Age game release ever. I expect the fandom's opinion on Veilguard to normalize when DA5 comes out. ... assuming it ever does, of course. That will depend on how well sales matched EA's expectations, which is not information we have. And we won't have it any time soon, because EA isn't going to tell us what their sales expectations were. Whether the hardcore fandom likes it or not is basically irrelevant, the question is whether it's picking up enough new players to justify another entry in the series. Factor in the long and troubled development cycle and whatever is happening with ME5 and I don't expect we'll even know if we're likely to get another DA game for four or five years at this point. (It's really just as well I've got twelve entire world states to keep me busy, although it's been less than a month and I'm nearly through the second one. Better start thinking up more Heroes of Ferelden ...)

Many controversy (recently about secret endings, earlier about mishandling review codes). If you're a Football fan you have to buy Madden. Sucks for EA, I'm a football fan and I buy Football Manager game from Sports Interactive.

Sucks for EA, I'm a football fan and I buy Football Manager game from Sports Interactive. Different genre of game EDIT: And by different genre I mean you don't even get to control characters. So if people want to play the game of soccer there's a monopoly. But if you want to roleplay a manager, FM is excellent. But that's not what I'm saying, because you don't actually play the game in FM

Men prefer choosing Grey Warden as faction background, while women and non-binary people prefer Shadow Dragon. TOTAL GREY WARDEN VICTORY. In War, Victory. In Peace, Vigilance. In Death, Sacrifice. In Polls, Winning. Also Shadow Dragon is such a Gaudy faction name, why Shadow? It's kinda overused. I feel like there are at least 33% chance that the next game will be subtitled as Shadow of something, Dragon Age: The Shadow of Shadow Flying Shadow Night of Shadow. I'd prefer if there is a Tevinter word for "Revolutionist" that would be better. because you don't actually play the game in FM media1.tenor.com/m/BFneuY3HqyAAAAAd/gotg-what.gif

Do you control a character on the pitch or are you just the manager watching the game making tactical decisions I know for a fact that my tactical decision impacted the player performance in a pitch. I may not actively controlling their feet, but I'm actively ensuring -all- other the condition to enable winning performance for the team. (anyway, not sure what's the post was about anyway, football fans must've buy FIFA/(American) football fans must've buy Madden?)

Right, so you're managing a team who plays a game of soccer, not actually playing a game of soccer Good to have that cleared up. My point is if you're a football fan who wants to PLAY A GAME OF SOCCER there's a monopoly. And yes I also know about Pro Evolution Soccer which has turned into a F2P P2W game so I'm not including that.

But yeah, EA controlled a lot of sports game, they knew where the money at.
