Also, maybe Trespasser should've been a free DLC (personally I don't mind paying for it but that would have been fair) - but the real issue with it was that those who bought DAI for old gen consoles could not play it. That's kinda unforgivable imo.
I don't think there's a universe where EA throws that much money into a free DLC.
Times are changing If free DLC is able to make the revenue indirectly (expanding the game's lifespan) OR they'd find another way to profit from the title (like making EA's subscription service more attractive... kinda like console exclusives) then I can see meaty free DLCs pop up at least from time to time.
What I am curious about is how will post-launch live services affect auxiliary materials... I guess it depends how long such single-player title live service support would last, but if it's substantial enough and the team has enough resources I can see some comic or book materials being turned into game content. But at the same time perhaps Bioware just like their franchises to be multi-media endeavors or collaborating with creators across different mediums, or some stories would still be long or complex enough to be too expensive to be made into DLCs, while the story is worth being told in some form. Anthem did get a comic series, after all.

This is my only real outstanding worry when it comes to live service, the 'free' side of it. Basically from my experiences with the free quests for the Witcher 3 and the free quests for Odyssey most of them are worth exactly the amount of money I paid on them.
Though since most of them have been collect-a-thons in one way or another that has seemingly led to the main game having very little 'fetch quests' so that might be one positive...

If we don’t continue as the Inquisitor in DA4, it would have been far better for Trespasser to have never been created.
I'd say it would have been "better for Trespasser to have ended differently", rather than never be created, if they really aren't going to have TLCA make a return. They still (apparently) needed to take the mark out of the picture and give the Inquisition a power downgrade, regardless of the protag of the next game, which is also what the DLC accomplishes. That and ratcheting up the geopolitical tension with the Qunari more.

I'd disagree on Witcher 3, cus I think the viper gear and the associated quests it introduced (at least I *think* that quest with the village and the viper school witcher were introduced by that DLC?) were quality and not just fetch quests/collect-a-thons. Sure, there was an element of that, in that you collected all the gear recipes. But that was part of the fun of Witcher 3, wasn't it? Upgrading your gear and looking/being more badass with each iteration, I mean. And I think most of the other free dlc was things like cosmetic armor variants for the sorceresses and such, wasn't it? I mean, yeah some of them weren't my taste, but it was free, so its not like I'm gonna complain its there.
No idea what Odyssey's free dlc is like, but its a Ubisoft game so I can guess. lol

Well, except for that one universe where EA trades in souls instead of cash. But I can't see why saving $15 is worth an eternity of torment as one of the game testers for the Madden NFL series.

There are exceptions...well an exception. Where the Wolf and Cat Play was mostly pretty great. I just think all the extra armor packs should've come in the game at launch.

Yours_Truly @ytcshepard You stand your ground on cat-girl, Patrick! Never give up! Never surrender!
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes Honestly cannot tell if this tweet is urging me to argue FOR or AGAINST catgirls in Dragon Age. Dunno how we got here, but it sure is a place.

Well I agree, I suppose. But since they didn't charge for them afterwards, it seems more like they were QoL updates. Like "We could have delayed shipping and finished these. Or we could have not made these at all. Or we could ship and then add the finished versions of these in later. We choose the last one." kinda deal. So, its not a problem to me. lol

I think we can safely exclude that DA4 would be released in 2019, because EA didn't mention it when they talked about some planned games in the latest financial report.

Expected release date is 2021. venturebeat.com/2018/12/04/dragon-age-4-2021/ "Dragon Age 4 — or whatever name it’ll carry — is at least three years away, according to sources familiar with the studio. That timeline could change, but that is the current expectation at EA."
I don't see how anyone could reasonably expect it to be released in 2019, Edmonton was focused on Anthem after DAI while Montreal (MEA) was downsized and then merged with Motive Studios, Austin does it's own thing with SWTOR.

I would take that anonymous report with a helping of salt. Personally I think late 2020 looks like a probable time.

Let’s assume gareth David-loyd is under contract for voice work based on his recent posts and replaying dragon age (assuming for research purposes). When does voice work start in the making of a game? Isn’t it towards the end? I’d say 2020 is possible with more stuff at e3 this year

It has to wait until most of the writing is done. Writing is one of the first things that has to finish on a game, so perhaps the middle of development?

Well that's also the thing that's bugging me since the release of the teaser. I mean surely he is not doing all of this talking how he plays DAI with his wife and how good it is just because he just started to play it right around a time when the teaser was revealed. I mean he surely could because if I know he is well aware of his status amongs the fans and mainly female fans from DAI so I think that maybe, just maybe he is preparing us for some sort of announcement that we will get before or at E3?
Just like Heimdall said, I aslo think that the voice recording should start around mid/early late development because in games like this, they have really lot of recordings so they must have at least some reasonable time to record and process it in peace. Surely there could be some exception, like I remember that Martin Sheen said that he recorded his lines for Illusive man for ME3 in August 2011? And the game originaly should release in late summer/autumn but was moved to March 2012 so even there wasn't much time before release and one of the last but major recording but of course that was special because of another reasons etc.
I believe that if not now or at least within few months, they will reveal DA4 at E3 with the release from late 2019 to late 2020. Or at least I really hope so. I mean 2021 seems like nonsense to me because that would be really too much time. Even now the gap is like 4 years and 3 months since release of DAI and that much time they didn't even need to create DAI from scratch on frosbite after DA2 was completed, which if I remember correctly, there was 3 and half years between DA2 and DAI? (Of course I am not counting time they spent on DLC etc. this is just light and fan statistics). Sure, there was MEA and Anthem but if it really turns out that the DA4 will release in 2021, the expectation will be really immeasurable if they aren't already right now.
And last thing and that is maybe no longer current plan, but I think that someone from DAI team (Mike Laidlaw it was perhaps?) mentioned how they like or at least that person who said the reveal tactics that Bethesda applied to Fallout 4 like they officialy announced the game with the release half year after. So maybe that could also be at least some form of indication when expect the release of DA4, of course if they use at least in some way this approach. I mean we all knew better than anyone what the word "SOON" really means in Bioware terms

Got to say, I’m appreciating how many Ursula gifs have been showing up here lately. Would absolutely be into that style of villain in Dragon Age. Oh I’ll definitely screw you over, but you’re an overconfident hero and don’t have better options, so you’re going to sign away your soul with a smile. “Life’s full of tough choices, isn’t it?”
Demons have sort of played that role in the past, but it’s always some hapless NPC who pays the price.

I'd be really, really, really surprised if there wasn't some sort of major 'deal with the devil' kind of thing that comes with a contract thick as a phone book and mostly filled with asterisks and tiny text underneath the spot the PC signs...

"Fursona" is a combination of "Furry" and "persona," so it's kind of like the anthropomorphized animal alter ego or avatar of people in the Furry culture.
One could argue that the Dread Wolf is Solas' fursona.
