Wait Erika Ishii is Rook's VA? Well, now i know what voice i'll choose for my first Rook. Also it's kinds funny seeing Alex Jordan, considering that Wuthering Waves is the only game where i heard him (i didn't play Phantom Liberty yet) and English voice over ranged from very bad to good. Jiyan (his character) was definitely one of the good ones tho.

Definitely using Erika’s voice first and probably always. It’s awesome we have a genderfluid VA as one of the options for Rook since we can be non-binary in it.
Rook’s voices have been provided by iconic television, film and video game personalities Alex Jordan (Cyberpunk 2077, The Amazing World of Gumball), Bryony Corrigan (Baldur’s Gate 3, Good Omens), Erika Ishii (Apex Legends, Destiny 2), and Jeff Berg (Battlefield 1, NCIS).
What even is Dragon Age: The Veilguard without the Veilguard? These 7 companions stand ready to join the fight to restore order to Thedas. We're happy to announce that our cast of companions includes:
Ali Hillis (Mass Effect 3, Naruto), returns to the fray as Harding, the dwarven scout, a Dragon Age: Inquisition hero with a big heart, a positive outlook, and a ready bow – as well as unexpected magical powers. Ike Amadi (Mass Effect 3, Halo 5: Guardians, Insomniac's Spider-Man) as Davrin, a bold and charming Grey Warden who has made a name for himself as a monster hunter.
Jee Young Han (Perry Mason, Unprisoned) as Bellara, a creative and romantic Veil Jumper obsessed with uncovering ancient secrets. Jessica Clark (True Blood, Pocket Listing) as Neve, a cynic fighting for a better future, both as a private detective and a member of Tevinter's rebellious Shadow Dragons.
Jin Maley (Star Trek: Picard, Silicon Valley) as Taash, a dragon hunter allied with the Lords of Fortune who lives for adventure and doesn't mind taking risks. Nick Boraine (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Black Sails) as Emmrich, a necromancer of Nevarra's Mourn Watch who comes complete with a skeletal assistant, Manfred, voiced by Matthew Mercer (Critical Role, Fallout 4).
Zach Mendez (Horizon Forbidden West, Married Alive) as Lucanis, a poised & pragmatic assassin who descends from the bloodline of the House of Crows, a criminal organization renowned throughout Thedas.
Last but not least, we’re excited to let you know Gareth David-Lloyd is returning as Solas, and Brian Bloom as Varric.
ok, that is an awesome lineup!
I'm searching for videos that would give an idea of what to expect from the 4 Rook voice actors, and I guess Asher Forrester from Telltale's Game of Thrones is a good indicator for Alex Jordan's Rook voice... stil didnt find one good example for the other 3, if anyone could find that would be great

We can have Mr. Hands from Cyberpunk 2077 as Rook?!
I'm in.
Indeed! He's also good in DnD show 'Natural Six', he plays a Kobold Rogue (complete with silly Rogue voice).
My first Rook (elf, canon Rook has always been elven in my mind for years, to see the possibilities with Solas' machinations) will be him, my second I'm totally using Erika Ishii as a Dwarf or Qunari!
Female British Rook actress Bryony Corrigan is also very funny in a show called 'The Goes Wrong Show'.

Aside from Ali Hillis and Matt Mercer I don't really know any of the voice actors (although I guess I heard Bryony when playing BG3), so not much risk of associations for me. As for which one I'll pick for Rook, I'll see what kind of character I make.
Hope they all sound nice in-game and that they embrace the characters as much as we likely will!
"He is the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on... He has got huge, sharp -- eh -- he can leap about -- look at the bones!"
I do think that was part of Origins narrative issues. Every place you go, you're having to resolve leadership issues. After the darkspawn overrun Ostagar and Loitering, they just chill until you finish running your errands.
Same thing with Inquisition. You have all these portals opening up everywhere... but barely in major cities. On top of that, the demons just chill by portals so you can run your errands and search for banners for your castle without any sense of urgency.
Granted, it's why I'm not a huge fan with rpg's beginning with an end of world threat, or bomb in your head for that matter. In a RPG, you typically want to take your time, but the narrative suggests otherwise, but I digress.
With LOTR, I agree, but it's also why Peter Jackson had the elves show up to help at Helm's Deep in the movies. To show that there is a world threat, not just a problem for the main party. Like Merry said "you're part of this world, aren't you?" Besides, when helping Rohan, you're still dealing with the big threat of Sauron's armies, not deciding Rohan's leadership or dealing with a possessed child.
It would be nice to come across a leader or two that's competent and has agency. I'm cool with the helping a bigger power trope to get their support, but the how you help is very important.
Forgive me if this is too off-topic. I'll gladly continue the conversation in the proper place.
Yup, that's always been a weakness of CRPGs with any kind of drama to the plotline (which is most of the ones I know but that's not exhaustive). Agency among actors though can get pretty tricky in this sort of game for several reasons. First, you can have the Player miss major content for not working faster. Imagine if, in Origins, your Warden gets to the Tower of Ishal last and finds Annulment has been completed ("Sure the Templars would be happy to join in destroying the Darkspawn. Oh, and please don't track the puddle of Wynne all over the front steps as you leave.") Second is that too much agency can lead to some really quizzical and sometimes game breaking results. This happens more in my experience in strategy games like the Civilization or Total War series where one faction can 'run away' from the Player by getting unexpected results against other computer controlled players. Third is that there are some, maybe many, Players who are irritated when the more static status quo is not maintained. Ask around this board about things like the time limit on Champions of the Just to get back to the Templar Hall after fetching Lieutenants or lyrium or the chance to fail at Halamshiral in Wicked Eyes, Wicked Hearts. I was pleasantly surprised at those myself as they were different from the usual Bioware approach and they weren't terribly tight (didn't happen even in my first run). Many other members were not so pleased and this is certainly the hardcore fandom so I can't imagine approval is much better in the general Player population.
None of this is to say it isn't doable or worthwhile, but I can see why the challenge might be seen as too much for the work involved. Good to talk with you and thanks for the compliment.

I can't be the only one noticing the irony of the fact that Matt Mercer 'died' as Fairbanks in Dragon Age: Absolution and is 'reborn' as the spirit of Manfred in DAVe, right?
Someone has to do the grunts. I wouldn't be surprised if Mercer voiced another character in-game.
Sometimes grunts and sighs can be very expressive. Would this be the same guy who voiced Fairbanks in Absolution? If so, I'm surprised they didn't mention that.

So, I wasn't imagining it. If Manfred does have an actual voice now then I'm going to think it is Fairbanks back as a skeleton (although he had an accent didn't he?)

I'm probably going with Alex Jordan's voice for my first Rook, although I'll have to hear what Jeff Berg sounds like in the role. And the voice pitch adjustment might also factor in the decision.

Erika Ishii has a nice voice, I can see myself using it.
Nick Boraine's voice seems good too based on the above clip, I'm not usually into silver foxes but perhaps I've reached that age where I'm now the target audience...?

I'm still planning on going stag the first round, but damn. That's going to make things difficult.
