HikikoMuri @hikikomuri.bsky.social Hi Trick, I’m not sure if this is a question you can answer, but I was wondering about tavern songs in DAI. There’s a song for Samson, but not for Calpernia. I was wondering if there was an in-universe reason for that, or if it was due to real world limitations? Thanks!
Trick Weekes @trickweekes.bsky.social I think the tavern songs were about what the lyricist found interesting, so they weren't a sign that Samson or Sera or Harding was more important than anyone else.
Apparently, Missions will have an NPC (relevant to said mission) join the party. I imagine that will include Agents for some. Maybe some old friends here and there? Anyway, some interesting possibilities there!
Hm... I have a wonder.
How will Bio integrate this friend NPC into combat if its class is Mage and comes from pre-DAI? Think spells.....
I'm sure they'd be reworked to fit in with the new system, but maybe with an additional feature if they had a signature ability (like shapeshifting).
In Weishaupt you could see all the companions holding the doors with Rook + one unknown npc. Granted the companions might have been placeholder for more wardens. But it'd be nice to see the whole group being involved in big story missions.
I do hope the game will have a decent amount of those scenes.
I do think that was part of Origins narrative issues. Every place you go, you're having to resolve leadership issues. After the darkspawn overrun Ostagar and Loitering, they just chill until you finish running your errands.
Same thing with Inquisition. You have all these portals opening up everywhere... but barely in major cities. On top of that, the demons just chill by portals so you can run your errands and search for banners for your castle without any sense of urgency.
Granted, it's why I'm not a huge fan with rpg's beginning with an end of world threat, or bomb in your head for that matter. In a RPG, you typically want to take your time, but the narrative suggests otherwise, but I digress.
With LOTR, I agree, but it's also why Peter Jackson had the elves show up to help at Helm's Deep in the movies. To show that there is a world threat, not just a problem for the main party. Like Merry said "you're part of this world, aren't you?" Besides, when helping Rohan, you're still dealing with the big threat of Sauron's armies, not deciding Rohan's leadership or dealing with a possessed child.
It would be nice to come across a leader or two that's competent and has agency. I'm cool with the helping a bigger power trope to get their support, but the how you help is very important.
Forgive me if this is too off-topic. I'll gladly continue the conversation in the proper place.

not deciding Rohan's leadership or dealing with a possessed child.
You forgot something. Théoden and Eowyn controlled by Gríma. Is the same situation like Eamon and Connor controlled by the demon. Rohan only helps you because Gandalf freed them twice.

Naw, just didn't want my post to be too long especially since LOTR is a bit off topic. Similar situations, but quite a different narrative. One, it would be like the First Enchanter being a part of your group offering the best solution to the problem as soon as it was presented. Two, Grima played a significant role in the story, while Redcliff Castle was a result of a selfish and ignorant mother. That being said, I never understood the Attack at Nightfall. Is that a result of the desire demon, or just a coincidence?

One day, the magic will come back. All of it. Everyone will be just like they were. The shadows will part, and the skies will open wide. When he rises, everyone will see. -Sandal Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a world to save. Again. -Inquisitor
Matt Mercer as Manfred, huh? The guy is a talented VA, but I can't not hear him as the Critical Role GM whenever I hear him in a game. He's sort of like Tom Cruise in that regard. He breaks my immersion just by being present.

Was he the original Mr. Hands or the one from Phantom Liberty?
Phantom Liberty.
Eww. I hated the new Mr. Hands compared to the original. This isn’t a knock on the actor, just commenting on Mr. Hands specifically. Liked the writing of the original while hated him once PL happened.

I am unbelievably souped to see this. POC actors for POC characters, a bunch of these VAs are queer and nonbinary/genderfluid, and it's amazing to see that there are FOUR asian VAs in major roles in a major fantasy story. I was already hype before but this is a really talented cast and I'm excited to get to know their characters in the game.
