It helped DAI, if I remember right. It did. If the game's good, reviews well and the internet doesn't melt over 'woke', it 'should' be an open goal.

Lol, if DAVe turns out to be a hit, do prepare for ragebaiters to suck to "Veilguard did well, because there was nothing else to play at the time!" argument like a tick from hell.

Which will be a hilarious argument if they do that, given the busy schedule - COD, Sonic, Life is Strange, and Horizon Zero Dawn remastered are releasing within a few days of it!

I mean, tbh, that list does sound like there's nothing else to play at this time. I mean, COD maybe given its popularity, but its a different genre. I don't know about any new Life is Strange game, but I know its narrative-driven, but much shorter. HZD is closest to DA's genre wheelhouse and its just a remaster. So its not very likely to pull sales from Veilgaurd. This will help DA's sales initially, and also in the awards, potentially. Like how Inquisition benefited from not being in the same release window as Witcher 3. But ultimately, if the game isn't good, it won't be remembered fondly. A release window clear of direct competition will only help boost what's already there.

To me the argument sounds funny mostly because... well, Bioware isn't' releasing Veilguard for free, and it will be a pretty big time sink. Not that many people will be buying it just because they're bored and there's nothing else to play, given that it's not a game targeting the audience with most time to spare. And even if there aren't that many things similar to Veilguard released alongside it, there are recent big RPGs to play that aren't as expensive anymore, if someone has that itch to scratch.

Ubisoft announced the delay for AC: Shadows to Feb 2025 from Nov 12, 2024.
Not hilarious at all. It would have impacted DA:V, imo

Don't care about the sales, or global reception or woke stuff. Been there, done that. DA2 release was awful, memes everywhere, devs losing their shit on the old BSN, the scandal of Anders hitting on male Hawke unprompted...The look of the elves...It was obvious the game was rushed but we were told "nope it was all thought out dev decision" *Sure, Jan.* DAI, All the female were ugly. Cassandra was a man. Sera very existance offended. David Gaider did an interview saying Dorian was the first gay male character, meltdown. The *curated* Crestwood demo showcase that had little to do with the final game. After all of this crap, we end up on a high note, Trespasser. I was so hopeful. Anyway here we are a decade later. DAI best Bioware selling game didn't stop the absolute shitshow that followed production wise. We learnt they sat down to brainstorm a multiplayer DA4 without much companions ! The cherry on top is firing seniors employees without proper severance and using their work to promote DATV.
I just want to have fun with DATV. The woke rager will keep on raging, and Bioware as a company will keep on doing whatever the hell they've been doing.

A release window clear of direct competition will only help boost what's already there. CoD draws a different crowd that doesn't usually care about RPGs, especially Dragon Age. The new LIS is very divisive among the fans. Horizon is also garnering lukewarm reception. The list really sounds like least fierce competition to me.

Look, I get the majority of the sales happen early in the life cycle. That said, the idea that a "busy schedule" and a game can't sell is ridiculous. It doesn't necessarily have to sell well early; like Cyberpunk 2077 had amazing legs post launch. It can happen.

The horizon remaster still makes me laugh. The game was the definition of mid - visuals aside.
