I don't think you've paid much attention to current events over the last twenty years at this point. Most people don't really act in general interest unless their own interests are taken care of first. Hyperbole aside probably one of the most realistic parts of BioWare games. I'm not sure if it's particularly realistic given the magnitude of the threat presented. When Vienna was under siege by Turkey, did some Austrian have to go to Poland first to help out their king? Did someone have to help the US with something so they kindly helped out in WW2? I think the reason is that BioWare quite often tells this same story with just some key variables changed: big evil shows up, protagonist gathers gang of quirky individuals and then has to help out some factions to gain their support. Seems to be BioWare's favourite type of content. USA and WW2 So, you choose to ignore Pearl Harbor. Stick to whining about video games.

John Epler @eplerjc.bsky.socialthe thing about being in QA is that even nearly 15 years after you've left the profession you still have the passive ability to make games break in the wildest ways possible Blair Thorburn @oiblair.bsky.socialOnce when I was in QA a programmer called me over to his desk because he couldn't repro the bug without me standing beside him. Just standing. - Honestly, that's me & printers.

I'm the total opposite, people call me to show bugs in our software and me just standing beside them makes them incapable of reproducing while doing the exact same steps.

Bitch please, I once made a disc break inside my PC. Into a million pieces. The guys at the repair shop were amazed. One time one of my IT-knowledgeable friends told be "congrats, you just found a brand new bug for this application" (fortunately he's smart and managed to figure out how to bypass it).

It probably makes more sense to compare something like the Fifth Blight to an existential threat like climate change, where you had some people arguing if it even exists. It's a juxtaposition between that and the pettier, political problems of the factions that need to be resolved. (Although something like the werewolf curse IS pressing enough to be handled right away, imo.) How well it's executed in later games is more debatable.
After going through everything again I was mistaken and the shots I thought were new were just in older teaser trailers that I'd forgotten about. Whoops. I'm pretty sure there's an almost exact 3:1 ratio of devs calling it Veilguard instead of The Veilguard though, so that was fun to notice.

I can't remember, did the developers already say anything about day/night cycles? We saw scenes in Minrathous at night, but we also saw that image of Docktown at daylight. So, how is that going to work? maybe like DA2 day/night cycle?

I have world states where I want to handle Solas very differently and I hope the game has sufficient freedom to allow for that. I think they are indicating it will. I had not replayed Origins: Witch Hunt in a while and I replayed that this week and there was something that Morrigan says in her final farewell to the Warden that made me think that what Solas is doing is part of some prophecy/plan that is beyond him or maybe even everyone's understanding. It also made me curious as to what they intend to do about the god-baby?

I like to have a number of options to kill him. Do it yourself. Inq kills the elf. He drinks a cup of tea full of poison. Have a public execution( hanging, beheading, burned alive)

Oh man. If I'm fighting the end of the world and someone helps me out, they're not doing me a favour, they are helping themselves because the end of the world concerns everyone, not just me. It's such a weird recurring thing in BioWare games - you're fighting a global threat but you need to convince and coddle others to help you even though said threat, being global and all, concerns them too. "There is an enemy bomber fleet coming, I really need access to those flak cannons." "Yeah but our commander can't find his favourite medal at the moment, could you look into that first?" I guess the questions is with respect to whether or not these factions know of such a ritual occurring and a possible impending blight. Your points definitely taken though

In that GI video, Corrine said something interesting that I'm not seeing other people catch:
"One of my favorite thing to do is upgrade some of Harding's abilities so she will autonomously use some of these abilities that - normally - I'd have to instruct her to do. And she'll actually set my character up to execute a combo..."
What I'm wondering is, is this really all that different from the previous games? I know with Mass Effect it is, but I know Inquisition had this quasi-preference system to how regularly companions would use their abilities.

It's such a weird recurring thing in BioWare games - you're fighting a global threat but you need to convince and coddle others to help you even though said threat, being global and all, concerns them too. "There is an enemy bomber fleet coming, I really need access to those flak cannons." "Yeah but our commander can't find his favourite medal at the moment, could you look into that first?" Uhhhhh, I gotta take a swipe at this. Let's see.... In Origins the leadership and most powerful Mages are trapped in their own tower by a good chunk of their own members having been turned into Demons. The Templars have been whupped down to the bottom of the stairwell and are waiting for reinforcements from a capital steeped in infighting with the darkspawn Maker-knows-where somewhere between. Then some random person shows up claiming to be a Grey Warden and just wants one or the other to come along with? Carroll may be dim but he's got one thing about the Wardens right (that Ranier just proves in Inquisition), there is really no way to tell who is a Warden and who isn't without some help and Duncan forgot to give you and Alistair your secret Warden decoder rings before he got snuffed. Its not that they don't care or ask for some minor task. Someone has to break the deadlock or there isn't any flak cannon to be had. Same basic idea goes for Redcliffe. Poor Teagan doesn't have authority to muster the banners of Aemon, Aemon is out of action and not even reachable by Teagan anyway, and most of the knights are on some crazy-ass quest and unavailable to help. Again, without freeing and stabilizing Aemon, no flak cannons to access. The mechanism to get a Dalish army gathered and moving is not exactly laid out but its not too hard to see that even if Zathrian's clan is but one in the Wood, as big as that forest is, you could be wandering for years before you managed to contact another clan. Solving an ancient mystery of Hate gone terribly wrong is just the quicker way to get those cannons armed and moving. The Dwaves first and foremost are GLAD when there's a Blight because it eases the pressure on them. Still, they would love to show those topsiders how to split a darkspawn skull and all you have to do is tell them who is going to give the orders. Yeah that was a medal run...from HELL! What about Exodus? That's just an odd duck all around isn't it unless you want to consider the individuals you worked with who aren't certifiably insane as the reluctant allies. There's also no real Big Bad just a Qunari Invasion and rampant demon releasing blood mages with crazed templars as a bonus platter. Still, don't see any coddling or cajoling outside of maybe dragging Carver along on any companions though they will have opinions on which side you are on. Inquisition then? That's maybe a closer thing though still understandable to me. From your quote, why would they give you the flak cannons when they are using them on the bombers they have in front of them? The Templars are in a situation very reminiscent of the Mages form Origins, being attacked from within, betrayed by some of their own leaders. The Mages got suckered by some time twisting and can't just tell the Vints to take a hike considering they don't believe they have any friends and a good chunk of their number are already signed up. Ferelden has issues of its own and issues with the Inquisition in general, it seems. Orlais is a lot like the dwarves in that they would love to help just as soon as they can figure out who is giving the orders. Did I miss any one? Of course, the whole trope of having to do something to get the assistance of someone (or group) with more raw power than yourself is not new or Bioware. Tolkien had Rohan neutralized by a weakness at the top. Gondor also had leadership issues to clear before it could effectively face the Dark Lord. I'm also reminded of the Fool of the World and His Flying Ship where the fool gathers six companions with special skills by aiding each one in a small task. It DOES stretch credulity that all the disasters hit at the same time in Origins but the ones in Inquisition are actually the actions of the Antagonist even if he was dumb enough to get Snidely Whiplash...er...Livius Erimond to try to turn the Wardens. That's actually a step up. Good talking with you.

Just a quick note on the 2 vs 3 companion party sizes as I've seen the discussion pop up again on Twitter. There was an interesting tidbit from the leak way back when. Apparently, Missions will have an NPC (relevant to said mission) join the party. I imagine that will include Agents for some. Maybe some old friends here and there? Anyway, some interesting possibilities there!

About the old leak In Weishaupt you could see all the companions holding the doors with Rook + one unknown npc. Granted the companions might have been placeholder for more wardens. But it'd be nice to see the whole group being involved in big story missions.

Lore Austin @loreaustin.bsky.socialHey hey! Silly little Veilguard β here. Looking at that promotional image of the Lighthouse... did Solas acquire half of that furniture (Davrin's & Emmrich's chairs, maybe the couch) from... Skyhold???? π Trick Weekes @trickweekes.bsky.socialAs much as I ADORE the idea of Solas sneaking out of Skyhold with a U-Haul packed to the brim with furniture and all the good mage gear you gave him, I expect it's likely just a common Fereldan style. I do remembe rSolas saying Skyhold wa shi shome onc ebefoe rthe Inquisition moved in. So I ca nseewh yboh places migh thave simla furniture. It wasn't his home at all times - it's Fereldans that built the castle.

Hm... I have a wonder. How will Bio integrate this friend NPC into combat if its class is Mage and comes from pre-DAI? Think spells.....
