I really gotta get on Discord maybe and ask the question I want to ask about Rook, though there is some hope here with the idea of us being able to develop and flesh out Rook through RP in the game. I mean no duh in a way but...well again really hope all the love the companion and their arcs are getting does not leave Rook hanging in the breeze. On the CC...well that does make a lot of sense, maybe even pushing things for a society with the general tech/ health care of Thedas but from my understanding of such things the human body does tend to start loosing some of its combatability in the mid to late 40s. It does work out though since figuring I'll make Oliver right around 30. Maybe 30 exactly. Ditto on the body tatoos never really gone into tatoos too much for my characters, but maybe this will be a good time to make an exception...we'll see what they offer. And well his name sake does also have body tatoos after all. Yea hI'm thinkin gearly t omid 20's for m ycharacter at leas tmy first one. I ca nsee myself mayb creating an olde rcharacte rfo r Emmerich if I end up wanting to romance him with one o fm yRooks. Bu tm yearl yRooks willlikely b equite young. Or at leas tm yfirs t2 o r3 will.

That would explain the information about Lucanis liking cooking. This is the bit that had me confused when they made the reveal about companions going off and doing their own thing and Rook just coming across them by accident. If the Lighthouse is meant to be their home too, why didn't they tell Rook where they were going and give them the opportunity to help before they left? If we are meant to be a team and a found family, where is the communication? Does Rook go to talk with them and find they are absent? Do they leave a note to say where they have gone? I hope this dynamic makes sense in the actual game. At last some clarification on this. I thought this might be the case but it is good to have confirmation.

Love the answers about the dialogue camera and age range. It bothered me so much in DAI not seeing people's facial expressions. I often prefer playing older characters so hopefully the CC will also support that through receding hairlines, graying for hair/beard, wrinkles, age slider, etc.

I don't quite understand the race stuff beyond you pick elf and you play however you want. Someone asked if they could be a Dalish elf (for example) and the answer is actually that each faction have their own racial background for Rook.
So Veil Jumper Elf Rook is Dalish and Shadow Dragon Elf Rook is a City Elf. But looks like it won't impact dialogues that much, so you can pretend you aren't too much Dalish as a Veil Jumper.

So Veil Jumper Elf Rook is Dalish and Shadow Dragon Elf Rook is a City Elf. But looks like it won't impact dialogues that much, so you can pretend you aren't too much Dalish as a Veil Jumper.
I think it may influence the dialogue options you are offered as well. So perhaps if you are a Veil Jumper you will be asked about your clan or life as a Dalish (like Josephine did in DAI) but if you are a Shadow Dragon you may be offered dialogue options reflecting growing up in Tevinter as a city elf. However, you won't be tied down to this, so presumably you can still be a city elf Veil Jumper (as Strife maintained he was originally) but you just avoid taking dialogue options that specifically relate to being a Dalish. As for other factions, presumably you choose the dialogue option that relates to your chosen background, so if you are a Grey Warden you can either say you were a Dalish or a city elf before joining up and the conversation then follows pretty much the same pattern as for the other two. Likewise, I assume it is up to you if you have vallaslin (just as it was in DAO even if you were Dalish) but presumably it isn't going to be a major conversation point like it was with Solas (unless the game actually picks up on whether you have vallaslin or not). What I am hoping, though, is that this doesn't limit what you can ask your companions. For example, I very much want to be able to ask Bellara about her vallaslin whatever faction I come from because I think by now most people would be familiar with the fact that the Dalish have them. However, if I choose to be a Dalish, then I hope I am allowed to point out they are not vallaslin with which I am familiar.

I recall comments about the subtitles being too small in DAI. and maybe we can toggle off the name of who's speaking? it would be really disappointing to watch a cutscene, hear someone saying an awesome line that surprises the player, but the subtitles: " Hawke: Hello, Varric, I'm back from the Fade" I remember watching TV series with that kind of subtitles, and things like that happened sometimes...

They could do what FF14 does when someone who wasn't around suddenly appears and says something offscreen as a dramatic introduction, which is put their dialogue with ??? as the nametag, then have their name show up after they appear on screen. Or if it's a new character, their nametag is a description of the character and then that gets replaced by their name after they introduce themselves. It's a bit of a cheesy thing and works better in some types of games rather than others, especially in non-voiced circumstances, but the ??? could work if not overused.

Colleagues is the way they act, not family, if true. Maybe Bio's marketing spiel got garble somewhere. Well they said the reason they changed the name to Veilguard was because they wanted the focus to be on our team and then they said how we were meant to build a rapport with them so they would be like "family" rather than just colleagues working together for a common goal. Remember the slogan that went with DAI "Whatever we were... we are now the Inquisition." So, it seemed they were going for that vibe with knobs on because this time round they were going to be more than just committed to an organisation/faction/team. Then we see this: So in order to force us to use people that normally we would ignore (which was the case with Iron Bull, Blackwall, Vivienne and Sera with the majority of my runs in DAI), they are not only going to made compulsory for certain quests (which is nothing new) but also not available for others. That's what I find odd. I actually try to be a bit logical in my choices. In the case of those I left out in DAI, there was no particular reason to use them because they weren't really linked with any area in particular. However, first run I think I did use Blackwall for the Grey Warden mission because of his links to them. That to me made sense. Likewise, I did take Vivienne to the Winter Palace because navigating the Orlesian Game was her area of expertise. So, if I was going to explore Minrathous, but particularly the docks area, I would normally opt for Neve because she knows the place and people. Apparently, though, she is already there working on her own case. Thus I assume she is not based at the Lighthouse. Either that or she left without telling me where she was going or why. That does seem very odd if we are meant to be a team called the Veilguard. Apparently it is not so much an organisation like the Inquisition but a club to which we belong, coming and going from the clubhouse (Lighthouse) as suits us without keeping the rest of the group informed. This criticism applies to Rook as much as the others. I thought we would be a united front working to save the world but apparently we just go off following our own leads, which may or may not be important to the overall picture, whilst not keeping the rest of the group informed. Oh well, it is a different approach to any of our previous games. To be honest, though, it does remind me of DA2 and Varric's drinking/gambling parties. It became apparent from conversation that the majority of our companions were attending these, even our Mabari, but Hawke was not invited. Yet, Hawke and Varric are meant to be best buds.

I'm really pleased to hear Rook's age range isn't too narrow. I want to play a grizzled middle-aged dwarf Grey Warden on my second run and it's nice to know that the game won't be going around assuming he's twenty-two. Maybe you can play a grizzled Dwarf Grey Warden who HAPPENS to be 22 even though he looks like he's 42.

The journalist claims they saw a 1hr segment with a spellblade (couldn't remember name arcane knight he calls it), armed with a sword from the beginning. Thoughts? 26:35 That'd be really great, personally. And it might also be an indication that the Reaper subclass might be able to wield two swords/weapons. The roundup of information and detail of specializations could've implied that possibility for both subclasses, but given that the devs mentioned about the classes' weapons, I thought it'd be more likely that they'd work like the Knight Enchanter, or with specific talents/spells simulating a sword for Spellblade and dual weapons for Reaper. I hope that what is mentioned in the video is true.

Happy about the camera angle, but I hope npcs with minimal conversation will have snappy sequences. I found that rather irksome in BG3, the constant cutting to a close up shot even for one line of dialogue you can't respond to. Would rather it just be kept to ambient dialogue in those instances.
