John answered some more questions on Discord:
Q: Since the dialogue wheel is coming back, will our choices set our Rook as diplomatic/humorous/aggressive with varying tone and voice lines similar to Hawke being able to be blue/purple/red?
John: Not to the same degree - we want to give you the freedom to play your Rook differently depending on who they're talking to (you might be kinder to your companions and brusque with authority figures, for example), but your tone choices will have an impact within a conversation and, sometimes, with specific characters across multiple conversations.
Q: I have to ask: how muscular can we make the elves?
John: Reasonably so. You won't be making any massive bodybuilders but like... Timothy Olyphant?
Q: As a follow up what about humans and qunari? Quite muscular a la arnold or big viking type? Or not so much that lvl?
John: Larger lineages (Qunari, esp) are bigger by default so the upper bounds are going to be bigger, but for modeling and animation we did want to put some limits on it. But your Rook can look pretty reasonably muscled, regardless of lineage choice.
Q: Are there any time-sensitive quests (in terms of gameplay time, that will fail automatically if not addressed in a timely manner), and if there are please tell me they're at least indicated as such in some way? 😭
John: There are quests that can go away and technically 'fail' if you don't address them - but, to be VERY clear, this is not an in-game timer, but rather as you progress the game's story forward. That said, we do try to sign post them as much as possible.
Q: Does Rook ever get the choice to cuss?
A: Yes. You'll know when you're doing it, and we leave it up to you to make the choice, but sometimes, cursing is exactly what the situation demands.
Q: All the games have had unique faction symbols for our protagonist (Warden, Champion of Kirkwall, Inquisition)
I assume there will be one for the Veilguard
Will the symbol for it get released before the game or is this something that will be revealed in-game/after it’s launched?
John: Every faction has their own symbol - including the Veilguard themselves! You may have noticed it in some of the art out there.
Q: There are blood effects in combat after Rook hits an enemy. And I think a developer shared images of the blood effects on hit after the reveal.
Will characters be covered in blood or other environmental effects? Like getting wet from walking in puddles or muddy from running on dirt?
John: There are environmental effects that persist on characters, depending on the environment you're traversing. They're subtle, but they're there!
Q: how many tattoos can we choose from? are there also full bodied ones too?
John: I don't know the exact number, but there are quite a few. Some are full body as well, though you have control over colours and opacity on a more granular basis.
Q: Of the zones/areas revealed what was the most challenging to design?
John: Each has its own unique challenges. Arlathan seems simple because - well, it's a forest, right? But what about Arlathan makes it different than places you've been before? How does it fit into the established lore?
Minrathous is a different kettle of fish because we've talked about it extensively and in a way that meant it HAD to be grander and more impressive than anything we've built before, which can be a tall order. The team did a fantastic job on all the areas, though.
Q: which faction has the best fashion, in your opinion?
John: Crows. Largely because 'black leather and feathers' isn't a look I could pull off in the real world but I am glad my Rook can.

There were many times I wanted Hawke, Inq and Shepard to get in the face of whoever to bad mouth them. Will a character be able to get in the face of the rook character to bad mouth him/her?

I need someone to ask if we’re stuck with purple armor for the entire game, cause every armor I’ve seen thus far is purple. Hoping it’s just for marketing purposes! Q: all the Rooks we've seen so far are wearing purple, please tell me we dont have to wear purple 😂 John: Everyone else can wear whatever colour they want but you, specifically, must always wear purple. -

Saints be taking over these streets. I’m just glad Veilguard is keeping colour and remaining vibrant in many ways. Grey and brown remain gone (or at least less suffocating).

Demoncat @mornmagor@hrungry This video here, Gamestar talk channel, german, talked about DATV. The journalist claims they saw a 1hr segment with a spellblade (couldn't remember name arcane knight he calls it), armed with a sword from the beginning. Thoughts? 26:35 Rynthlen was kind enough to translate a few tidbits from the video. However, some of it is a little spoilery, so... Т. 🐺DA brainrot @rynthlen I know a bit of German, but correct me if I’m wrong, please. There's this section of the game we didn't get to see in the gameplay, but because Tevinter is built upon the ruins of Elvhenan, there are these ruins underground with murals and paintings similar to Solas.
Apparently, that's how they bring you up to speed on what's happening. Varric intercepts a lot, talks a lot, and the characters take center stage. It's more interactive than normal codex entries. Am I correct?
Apparently, they wanted Rook to be the focus. They tried with three characters in playtesting, but it wasn’t working, so they changed it to two to maintain that action-heavy focus. Also, yes, at higher levels, the characters take on different roles, and there will be certain missions where you are forced to take specific characters.
Apparently, all characters level up in parallel, so you don’t have to worry about experience points or anyone falling by the wayside.
(I'm not sure how this ties into their "Relationship Level" - Hrungr)
Apparently, for mages, there is indeed a hand-to-hand combat option similar to the Arcane Warrior, allowing them to fight with a sword. Neve, for instance, is a snow mage, and there are possibilities to skill in different directions, providing lots of flexibility.
The tactical wheel becomes especially important on higher difficulties, particularly for those who want to use all the game's mechanics to their fullest potential. This feature ensures that players can customize their combat style and adapt to various challenges in the game.

ugh. Forgot about that. Though still vague enough. Two reasons: 1. I never found it particularly user friendly. Sometimes CCs can get far too specific or far too...miniscule in the changes it makes. 2. My biggest desire from CCs is ability to recreate characters with codes and values. Largely why my two favorite CCs are Andromeda's and ME2s. And, in my experience, sliders are far easier to utilize in such a fashion then the triangles of doom. Or the grid in Inquisition. Now maybe we can have x/y coordinates represented in the bottom or something but we haven't seen anyone do it and not sure how practical that is.

I may do that anyways but have to be careful because either lost my Andromeda ones or they are on the PS4...which I never use anymore so doom on me. Especially Relevant given the Inquisitor s inclusion and I'll probably drag Kara into multiple Rook world states.

I don't know how many hairstyles Veilguard will have but I read earlier that FC25 will hav esomething like 500 in it's new Cranium enhanced Character creator this year which sounds impressive it makes me think and wonder have Bioware and EA Sports been collaborating on this and does Veilguard have this many options or somewhere close given tha tBioware have been boasting about their CC and options within it.

If this is accurate, it firms up the last week of October as the release window, assuming the book coming out the week after. In which case, I hope they pull the trigger and give us a Halloween release day! (Friday would be more convenient for me than Tuesday since that would mean I could start on Saturday local time and have nine full days to get through the game before heading back to work.)

So in order to force us to use people that normally we would ignore (which was the case with Iron Bull, Blackwall, Vivienne and Sera with the majority of my runs in DAI), they are not only going to made compulsory for certain quests (which is nothing new) but also not available for others. That's what I find odd. I actually try to be a bit logical in my choices. In the case of those I left out in DAI, there was no particular reason to use them because they weren't really linked with any area in particular. However, first run I think I did use Blackwall for the Grey Warden mission because of his links to them. That to me made sense. Likewise, I did take Vivienne to the Winter Palace because navigating the Orlesian Game was her area of expertise. So, if I was going to explore Minrathous, but particularly the docks area, I would normally opt for Neve because she knows the place and people. Apparently, though, she is already there working on her own case. Thus I assume she is not based at the Lighthouse. Either that or she left without telling me where she was going or why. That does seem very odd if we are meant to be a team called the Veilguard. Apparently it is not so much an organisation like the Inquisition but a club to which we belong, coming and going from the clubhouse (Lighthouse) as suits us without keeping the rest of the group informed. Maybe my family is weird, but when living with other adults, I can't imagine announcing it to everybody every time I leave the house. Do most people not just give a quick, "hey, gonna go out and do X, be back later," to someone who is nearby? Meaning, in this case, Neve could easily still live at the lighthouse and reasonably not tell every single other inhabitant that she's gonna go work on an investigation, especially if the context turns out to be that she got a lead and didn't have much time. We don't know that she told nobody in this vague example they gave us, just that the player wasn't expecting her to be there. I think this could be cool, depending how it plays out. To be honest, though, it does remind me of DA2 and Varric's drinking/gambling parties. It became apparent from conversation that the majority of our companions were attending these, even our Mabari, but Hawke was not invited. Yet, Hawke and Varric are meant to be best buds. My headcanon is that Hawke plays too, but Varric never explicitly invites them because he assumes Hawke just knows to be there. I wish we got more scenes of multiple party members just hanging out together, Hawke included. I hope Veilguard will involve Rook in these sorts of things.

John answered some more questions on Discord: Q: Since the dialogue wheel is coming back, will our choices set our Rook as diplomatic/humorous/aggressive with varying tone and voice lines similar to Hawke being able to be blue/purple/red? John: Not to the same degree - we want to give you the freedom to play your Rook differently depending on who they're talking to (you might be kinder to your companions and brusque with authority figures, for example), XD I feel seen. One of my Hawke's I tried to make very like that but then the personality system would sometimes force them to be mean to companions cause they were aggressive/direct too many times with other npcs. Glad they're taking into account characters behaving differently to different people this time. This sounds so much more nuanced then da2, I look forward to trying it. Glad to be able to make Elven warriors who look like they can lift their weapons. Hope i can make mages of all races and genders look like they can't lift shit if i want. (My male mage Trevelyan was just too buff man) Very interested to see full body versions of dalish and Dwarven tattoos 👀
