To hit a few things at once, All classes can wear all armor types with a specific caveat that certain specific items are class restricted (you can actually see this when people scroll over certain nodes on the tree for each class that have armor type requirements). Yes, I have lots of vacation planned but I will be around for launch. And yes, years of working on the same thing can cause some burnout but I've played through the full game probably about 8 times in the last few months and it's still fun (though some of the specific levels that haven't changed in a long time I've done 50+ times easily and I could do without ever seeing them again 😂). My hope is actually that I can stream the game and talk mechanics with fans, there is a lot to sync and I absolutely adore talking design specifics. Still TBD but I'll certainly let the fine people here know first 😉 First off...wow that sounds really cool actually. Third off..must say its going to be interesting not going to watch any Streams or Lets Plays of the game until after I do my first run through it by myself so as not to be 'spoiled' too badly but I also really think I now have at least three YouTubers/ streamers I want to watch of the game after I am done. I am going to drive my wife so crazy playing through it more then once back to back and then watching multiple people play it at the same time...depending on where you post it. But I would love to see it.

I wonder how much of the MP past is responsible for the art style though. I was wondering this, too. Well you see, when Mr. Bioware flipped the switch on the Frostbite Machine from MP back to SP, he forgot to turn the Tighten Up the Graphics dial from Cartoony to Super Real. If only he hadn't used up all the Character Creator RAM removing the lady curves he might've noticed his blunder!

Yeah, I’m not sure why people think multiplayer is reason behind art direction. I can maybe see some hero shooter influence in some of the menu design, but multiplayer games can look more realistic, like Halo, or more stylized, like Borderlands. And even then, the reboot was so long ago it’s almost impossible to determine what is and isn’t a holdover from an older iteration. Contrast this with, say, BG3, where we can pretty reasonably say the memory leak issue is a result of multiplayer, because the game needs to be able to generate the entire map for multiple people.

Yes, because of the hero shooter look and because Veilguard was originally designed as a multiplayer game as well as a general mismatch between character art style and environments and genre. Sometimes when there is an odd design choice it is because it wasn’t made with the current design in mind. May or may not be the case here, but when I see something like that it makes me wonder why they would pick it and what happened.

Or different areas get different archetecural cues because they take place in different countries. Otherwise things look pretty consistent and consistently not hero shooter esque, at least in the same vain of Borderlands.

The silhouettes are very distinct, which was a key design element noted in Valve’s paper on TF2. It’s also why people hated the introduction of hats. My problem with this is that we’ve seen early concept art of companions, and most of them looked very different… not only that, but distinct silhouettes are a sign of good character design in general, and shouldn’t be relegated solely to Hero Shooters.

I like it. It veers between menacing & upbeat then ends on a more triumphant note. Though I'm most interested in the combat & exploration music, just because we hear those the most. Now that I've had a chance to listen to it a few times, I'd love to hear a HQ version of it.

Yeah, I don't really mind if the art style originated from the live service version of DA4. If the art style serves DA:TV well, then it's good regardless of its origin. And so far, I like what I've seen. And if taking the art style from the live service version allowed Bioware to spend more time on other important stuff like combat and companions, then that's even better.
When I play live service games, I often think that they would be even better if they were single player games. There are many great games out there that are marred by the live service model.

Though probably the best games in this regard are those you can still play entirely as a SP campaign on your own without the multi player. Breakpoint was super fun since there really was no encouragement to play MP. It was there if you wanted but the game was perfectly capable of playing it by yourself. Anthem kind of did this to but didn't quite hit the right note.

Anthem kind of did this to but didn't quite hit the right note. I love Breakpoint single-player with my AI squad. Anthem's main plot is sadly not really viable solo or I'd replay it.

THIS MONTH! AGHHH! Yes I've just had my morning coffee. Anyway back to one of the topics at hand I can't remember what modes I played in DAI multiplayer. I played it around launch when plenty of others were on it, then I didn't. It was fun though! Should have kept at it up until and between the story DLCs. I did jump back in shortly when they added Isabela and the Sky Watcher Avaar guy in. I liked that it added character archetypes and builds/abilities that weren't in the main story.

doubt it will be quieter post launch. Good luck. BSN is behaving sweetly and civilly, both hyped and skeptics alike. It's the (as the expression goes) 'fucking tourists' on the rest of the internet I'm finding exhausting. The tourists have had their fill for now. Maybe it was good to do previews a month and a half in advance.

Oh this month is going to drag! I'm almost done with my series playthrough and only have Trespasser left to play. I really like the main theme and would love it if they release the full soundtrack ahead of the game's release (hopefully without too spoilery track titles).
