Apparently Shader Compilation takes a while.
I hope it's just inbetween driver changes and patches. And not every time we start the game  Should be just once (can't recall if patches require redoing it), depending on your card it can take up to 10m but this is basically instead of it happening on load screen in smaller bits so it makes the game much smoother.

While everyone's mileage will vary, especially with the narrative side of the game, one thing that looks to be universally liked about the game is the performance quality. It runs well with the right hardware, and very few bugs are reported as being present.
For a game so mired in controversy, it's wild to me that it's also the most consumer friendly on the market (in terms of minimal bugs, solid framerate, no DRM, offline play, and no microtransactions).
