I may be critical of this Game and I do not believe it would win GOTY and being nominated was always gonna be tight. But the categories of RPG and Action/Adventure having Dragon's Dogma 2 and Star Wars Outlaws, doesn't make sense to me. Dragon Age The Veilguard even as a standalone game is better to me then Dragon's Dogma 2 which I'd say as similar general issues Veilguard has but with even less RPG elements then Veilguard. While Veilguard isn't up to typical Dragon Age RP standards it's still more of a RPG then Dragon's Dogma 2. And I've seen nothing but negative things and bugs from Outlaws. Veilguard is a 100% more polished game and at the very least should've been nominated for those 2 awards over those two games.

What does this even mean. I'm guessing they mean the judges are afraid of the potential backlash of nominating Veilguard since a lot of people were determined to hate this game before it even came out because of silly culture war reasons. I don't think that holds a lot of water, personally. The Game Awards, like most media awards, are popularity contests and they usually nominate the titles that made the biggest splash among gamers that year. It's easy to get the wrong impression if one mostly hangs around here or the Dragon Age subreddit, but Veilguard didn't really cause much of a stir in the gaming scene. Based on buzz, my personal bet for who will win is Shadow of the Erdtree or Metaphor: Refantazio. Hopefully the latter, because Elden Ring already won and nominating an expansion pack is some BS. I don't understand how a poker game is better than a rpg, but hell I've never heard it before today, Balatro too. |

I don't understand how a poker game is better than a rpg, but hell I've never heard it before today, Balatro too. I haven't played it, but I've come across a lot of chatter about Balatro so clearly it's in people's minds. The awards will nominate the odd indie game if it's popular enough, but AAA always wins.

I'm a bit surprised DD2 made the list given that the reception was not overly enthusiastic. DAV not getting nominated for even the RPG category stings a bit, then again no western RPG was nominated as far as I can see. I was mostly "whelmed" with Dragons Dogma 2. Yeah. Great character creator and the combats fun. But it didn't really improve on much that the prior game saw significant criticisms for (mainly its weak story and characters). |

Your the one that was going off about conspiracy theories. I've participated in events that are of much higher stakes than "video game awards" and I assure you there's a lot of politicking that goes behind the scenes when deciding nominations. This could include forcibly adding DLC content to qualify as video game releases (either happened through lobbying or the whims of someone higher up) or sidelining a very recent release that has been very publicly brigaded to nobody's surprise. It doesn't have to be malicious. It just means they don't have a spine. Dragon's Dogma is *not* a better game than DAVG under any qualification so this should be obvious.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is also a deeply flawed game for sure, but I think it is still pretty good at its main selling point, great combat mechanics. They still had their issues and other aspects of gameplay, including things like enemy verity not to mention story and roleplay mechanics. I do wonder though why do you think it has more roleplay mechanics. |

It seems to me that the PC folks are a bit more critical of the DAtV than the console folks, as the X-Box and PS5 reviews are comparable to DAO, DA2 and DAI. I'm not too surprised. DAtV feels console-ish to me. |

I'm hoping Metaphor takes home a bunch of prizes. 100% deserves it, and it's not competing against Black Myth in Best RPG so definitely a big possibility of grabbing at least one big award

Its pretty obvious now especially since some have turned on the game after the backlash (see IGN suddenly trashing the game, alongside a few others) and the overall player reception has been very lackluster basically everywhere At this point they know its best to just act like it never happened, just like with Andromeda. If they bought a GOTY nomination the backlash would be crazy. EA doesn't want that

Western games have been shitty for the most part for years, just very generic with zero innovation and just bad writing (Ubisoft is the worst offender, glad Outlaws flopped..lets hope AC shadows does too)
