Mary Kirby @biomarykirby Wow, it's the tenth anniversary of DA2's launch? I don't have an impossibly-broken flowchart for this one. But I will celebrate by raising a glass for the Pirates-versus-Qunari-versus-Zombie-plague plot I never got to write for the expansion.
Hawke: Someday I'll visit a place with no ancient evils, horrors, devouring plagues, or insanity. Maybe a beach. Isabela: I can recommend a few, if you'd like. Hawke: Please do. Varric: The day you go to the beach is the day an armada of angry demon pirates show up. Hawke: I've got a bad feeling all of a sudden.
Hard to believe it was ten years since DA2 has been released. When I first heard about DA2, I dismissed it having never played a Bioware game before I was unimpressed with its so called generic protagonist and typical medieval fantasy. After a few months of not having a game to play, I've decided to give DA2 a try already feeling that I was ripped off. Boy did it turn out how wrong I was, I was amazed of the humor, engrossed by the characters and story. I remember laughing at every line of Sarcastic Hawke's dialogue, hanging out with Varric in the Hanged Man and trying to help Anders in his mage revolution. Through DA2, it gave me a deeper appreciation of storytelling in video games something I've only experienced a few times with Halo 2, Final Fantasy 8 and Call of Duty 4. DA2 was my first Bioware game and I've been a huge fan ever since that experience.
Dragon Age 2 celebrates 10 years today and as each year passes, more players are starting to see the magic of the sequel buried beneath rushed development
This game had some of the best character development, here's why you should give it a second chance
Oh. So it's another shill article giving "The Last Jedi is actually good" defense. If you need to defend a game, 10 years after release, it must have been really bad, to need defending still.
I've written my share, thank you very much. It takes one to know one.
That is exactly why we need articles telling people that they aren't as bad as people think, every three days and nobody is swayed. If you need to defend it still, then something is wrong with it.
When I die, I want Bioware to carry my casket, so they can let me down, one last time.

Or maybe they're trying to convince you to have a different perspective? There's nothing wrong with listening to the other side once in a while. I mean Youtube keeps sending me Fallout New Vegas is awesome videos even though the last time I tried to play, the game crashed on me multiple times. Just try to keep an open mind and if you don't agree just move on.

Sure. But this is a paid perspective. This is paid promotion and just another attempt being made to try and change peoples' minds on a thing that hasn't been successfully changed for 10 years now.
Did it do some things right? Absolutely. Did it still fail overall? Yes and there's no coming back from it. Just like Andromeda. Just like Anthem.

Or maybe they feel that it's underappreciated. A lot of games get better recognition than it was years ago, take Fallout New Vegas people dismissed it as a buggy Fallout 3 clone now it's beloved to the point where people will not shut up about it. (Seriously that game is one of the buggiest I've ever played.)

David Gaider @davidgaider You could also raise a glass to the entire Coterie plot arc which you DID write. Less exciting than zombies, perhaps, though.
Mary Kirby @biomarykirby I almost forgot about that! I think parts of it were even recorded before it was cut.

John Epler @eplerjc I legitimately don’t remember what we shipped and what we cut for DA2. It’s all one big mess of ‘shit that happened that year’.
Sure. As is Alpha Protocol. But the general consensus is that it's bad and nothing is going to change that. I like Alpha Protocol, it's one of my top 5 games of the PS3/X360 era, but it's done.

But there are plenty of people who like Alpha Protocol. But no matter, you'll just be convinced that everyone who praises a game you don't like is a paid shill. Just try to keep an open mind in the future otherwise you'll end up being close minded.

The trouble is while public perception really does not matter in the long run in terms of personal enjoyment...at least it shouldn't...it can effect purchasing decisions and its hard to be immune from such things. When I had the opprotunity to pick up both games from Gamestop I kind of hesitated with DA 2 because I had heard a lot of great things about Origins but the word of mouth I had heard on 2 was kind of crap. So, I decided to get both and pull the trigger on it...it was like dirt cheap and bought both Origins UE and DA 2. I ended up enjoying 2 more. Hence articles like this are just as important, and valid, as all the tons of 'hey guess what haven't you heard...DA 2/Andromeda/TLJ SUCKS guys' that we are also subjected to on a near daily basis. Because you never know when you might like a game, no matter what the mob says.
Heck it works just in the reverse too. RDR is widely regarded as one of the best games all time...so is the Uncharted series...I think both are near trash...and the first Uncharted is trash.

I was a paid shill myself. Not proud of it. I shilled for Inquisition. I can tell a paid article when I see it. Even if the writer is honest about it, this wasn't an innocent opinion piece.

I don't doubt your enjoyment or that opinion pieces don't have a place in games media. It's just that this piece is paid promotion. And you know why? Because very few people are actually going to read an article about a 10 year old game that the majority of the gaming population decided long ago that it is bad. This doesn't get clicks, so it doesn't get written often. Even if the writer is sincere about it, the likelihood that this article has any success higher than a number of people in the two digit range is unlikely. This is, most certainly, paid.

Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah Here’s what I remember about Dragon Age 2: We went into a board room in late 2009 to find something to cover for SWTOR slipping and then we shipped a game in March 2011...
Oh, and I wanted to call it Dragon Age: Exodus. Which we SHOULD have.
The characters are excellent. The writers did a great job.
seb hanlon @hanlsp stupid Varric and his stupid custom everything (he shares no combat animations with anyone else in the game because Bianca is in his rig)
lesson learned: don’t make the first level of the game and the level you use for all the demos the first level you build.
Marco @wtfman999 I just remember disliking re-use of environment & enemy waves but combat, story and companions were top notch. Wondered what 6 more months of dev time could have done.
Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah The lessons on the area reuse: 1. Don't make reused areas too specific looking. The novelty works against you. 2. Don't claim the same area is a different area. You aren't fooling anyone.
Michael LoCoco @michaellococowi And yet it features my favorite antagonist (arishok), favorite mechanic (narrative time skip) and favorite thematic choice (small setting character focused game set in a developed world) of any of the DA games. DA2 is probably my fave in the series.
Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah Constraints can lead to creativity.

Antifa Temptress @mackenzieiyer So because SWTOR was delayed EA needed a different game to fill that slot before the end of fiscal?
Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah Basically. It's more messy then that (as always)
Hel Thomson @helalost I’m embarrassed to say you fooled me! I get turned around so easily that I didn’t even realise until towards the end of the first playthrough that the caves were all roughly the same. I actually thought I was somehow getting better at navigating.
Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah They are EXACTLY the same. Except we block off some paths. There's the one shaft of light area that gives it away. Varric makes a joke about "all caves looking the same to him" DAI. META!

Respectfully, this isn’t your only post that sounds more forced than any paid promotion, so that’s gold coming from you. Anyway, I hope they remake DA2 in the future. I’ve always adored the game, but in the past decade it’s really shown its unique quality. BioWare could build off that potential by properly updating the environments and characters to accurately show the year by year difference. I know they see the potential as well.
I do wonder if all those Youtube videos gushing over Fallout: New Vegas counts as a "paid" perspective as well? Or that doesn't count because Obsidian is the new golden boy after CDPR messed up Cyberpunk's release?

DA2 probably still holds my favorite DA spot for its cast. Loved DAI, but nothing else in the DA series beats the found family vibe in DA2. The characterization and my attachment to the team rivaled ME's crew to me. DAI is a close third, of course.

Skolia @_skolia_ Is there anything you can share about the cut storyline? Just curious about it.
Mary Kirby @biomarykirby You could join the biggest thieves guild in Kirkwall and either take it over, or work with the city guard to destroy it from the inside.

OK Buddy.
But the problem is that once upon a time you claimed that Kingdoms of Amalur was better than the entire Dragon Age franchise, that means none of us will take your opinion seriously ever again.
Shit, you can tell us you like ice cream and the entire forum will rethink the fact they too like ice cream, that's how bad you wrecked your credibility.
