I'd slow down a bit - just because they have an alpha, it doesn't mean they're going to show bits of it at EA Play, it could just be a simple internal alpha. I think at most we'll see another cinematic teaser\trailer or "behind the scenes" video like the one from last August. An official title for the next game would already be something great. I even think there's still the possibility we won't actually see anything - and at that point I'd start thinking a 2023 release date would be more likely than a 2022 one.

Seems DA 4 didn't show up on the 2022 earning call so yeah 2023 seems a shoe in at this point.
And while this news about Alpha is curious I am not expecting anything major either.

What it means is that the prototyping is over. That's all there is to take from this.

Didn't even see it. Anything else from there?

And why would it? It's an earnings call. The game isn't out yet...

As sirpetrakus said, companies give guidance for expected financial performance in the coming year in these calls and usually that means talking about upcoming projects. They don’t necessarily bring up everything, especially if it’s something that hasn’t been announced to release, but if they expected it to be a driver of success they would talk about it even if vaguely.

My point though like wouldn't they mostly talk about what they earned in the past year?

I'm not an expert on this sort of thing but this kind of information has been used around here to predict the liklie time when DA 4 will drop. It seems pretty generally accepted. There is a chance its not but really investors want to know what a company will do in addition to what it has done for continued investment so it makes some sense that this kind of information will be in there.

Sure, if the call referenced happened right before the end of the last fiscal year. But even then, they don't talk about only what happened in the last period, they also talk about predictions for the future. We're now at the end of Q1 FY21. If the call happened recently, it's most likely about what progress was made in Q1 and what the predictions for Q2 onwards are.

Early in May, Brazil Independent Games Festival had Scylla Costa (DA Lead Producer) talking about the game.
The Tumblr user Falassan was kind enough to cover the whole thing, which can be found here.
During the "Introduction to the development cycle of an AAA game", he described the ALPHA phase as a post-production stage in which functionalities are implemented as tested.
As summarized by Felassan...
"In the alpha phase, features have to be fully implemented and systems all have to be running working. All the game features should already be in the game by now. They test from pre-production onwards, but this phase is when they run heavy technical tests with lots of players trying to play at the same time. In the beta phase, the idea is that you should now have full content and that now you’re balancing it and running more and lots of different tests with players before launch".
This means that the development cycle is actually ahead of what I was expecting the game to be. And they will have gameplay footage available to show during EAplay Live, we just don't know if they actually will do it or if it is worthy yet,

It should have remained "the batcave"

Can we get this thing with bat wings attached and flying overhead? It could use the hands to lovingly tousle the PC's hair.
Would it be administering something like for example, healing potion, water, potions of different nature, beer keg etc. ? Could we evolve it? Could we tell it to attack the target I want to?
