Sorry, I meant to say RELEASE an Alpha version. As in “send it out into the wild for the public to play and give feedback on.” They obviously will have an Alpha version.
I corrected my statement on the previous page, but clearly I wasn’t fast enough.

Developers have been using Steam (and EA with Origins) to do those "dev at-home testing" (aka friends and family testing) for a few years now. Oh interesting, it never occurred to me that Steam/Origins could do the desktop equivalent of what Testflight does wrt internal builds. Makes total sense now that I think about it.

Alpha is just a development stage. This could mean something like they are preparing to show gameplay in the alpha stage, or it could mean nothing at all. Thats what I thought too, DA4.Quick.Alpha.footage.BluRay-EA.mp4 at most or alpha realtime play (not representing final gameplay).

How are we supposed to figure out which games are the shapes supposed to represent? Like, what is the rocky pyramid supposed to represent? I guess you can see a wolf on that cube, but it doesn't look "Dragon Age-y" to me personally. I honestly thought the sphere with those red veins was red lyrium at first, but people say it's actually related to Dead Space? I haven't played the series so I don't know. Of course some are easier to figure out - that road section on the cube is likely related to Need for Speed or Burnout.

I honestly thought the sphere with those red veins was actually red lyrium at first, but people say it's actually related to Dead Space? I haven't played the series so I don't know. I suppose the electricity pulsing pyramid is supposed to be Eezo or Biotics from ME, as well. It's a terrible fucking way to do it. All I get, these are textures and particle effects for the Frostbite 4 showcase that will take place and a promo for it. While Frostbite is a closed engine, EA can still provide it to 3rd parties to develop games with. I think they already do. Nobody uses it, because it's so difficult to handle, but they do offer it. These textures are probably common for a wide variety of EA's games. Like, urban levels in the new Battlefield will probably have the same road and wall textures as the stages in the next NFS or whatever racing game Codemasters will be making for them. The rock texture is most likely not unique to Dragon Age, so there would be no reason to hide a wolf in it. Like I said, if it's to share hints, this is the most inefficient way to go about it.

As someone commented on Reddit, it seems unlikely that DA4 would have an Alpha version unless it’s an online game. All games have alpha versions and BioWare doesn't do public tests for the alpha of their online games (they didn't do it for SWTOR or Anthem, both were in betas). BioWare devs have often shown photo of pre-alpha/alpha version console disks they were taking home for home testing. Some of the latest consoles don't have disk support, that means devs have to go through the console store now. Developers have been using Steam (and EA with Origins) to do those "dev at-home testing" (aka friends and family testing) for a few years now. It has nothing to do with the game being online or not. My guess then is that we probably could just simply be able to pre-order the game soon. Like, this is the same account that said Cyperpunk would be able to be purchased before it was announced.

I very much doubt we'll get a public playtest. It does indicate they will show something at EA Play, but it's probably just a short demo showing off some general gameplay.
However, what excites me is that if they do this chances are we might actually get to see three of our companions!

Early in May, Brazil Independent Games Festival had Scylla Costa (DA Lead Producer) talking about the game. The Tumblr user Falassan was kind enough to cover the whole thing, which can be found here. During the "Introduction to the development cycle of an AAA game", he described the ALPHA phase as a post-production stage in which functionalities are implemented as tested. As summarized by Felassan... "In the alpha phase, features have to be fully implemented and systems all have to be running working. All the game features should already be in the game by now. They test from pre-production onwards, but this phase is when they run heavy technical tests with lots of players trying to play at the same time. In the beta phase, the idea is that you should now have full content and that now you’re balancing it and running more and lots of different tests with players before launch". This means that the development cycle is actually ahead of what I was expecting the game to be. And they will have gameplay footage available to show during EAplay Live, we just don't know if they actually will do it or if it is worthy yet,

Because Felassan was a beta sub who got Eluvian-cucked by Briala and was rightly executed by Solas, a true alpha son of the North(ern Elves)?

Either the game is pretty small, or they're going to keep A LOT of the originally multiplayer elements and mechanics in the final product. Which gives red flag vibes. These kind of games, especially from EA aren't that good. They're probably going to show a gameplay teaser / reveal that's under 2 minutes in EA live and a somewhat of a deep dive in the game awards. I'm not expecting anything more tbh

Considering how little the previous games actually differ from each other mechanically, even though Inquisition had a multiplayer mode, I can't imagine what there could possibly be to worry about in regard to there being any vestiges of multiplayer in the next game.

The deadline's probably closing in on them, and they need something substantial to show at EA play.🧐 I hope they aren't rushing things out the door and using whatever they can just to placate everyone. I wouldn't be surprised if the bulk of it is comprised of the mechanics in DAI, just changed up a bit, maybe a few new spells and environments, to keep it safe. Maybe they'll take the opportunity to show off a new companion in the game too, that would actually be something I would expect considering all the time they've had to concept stuff.

But how are we imagining the gameplay of DA4 would have been different as a result of including MP? The major gameplay of the series has remained mostly consistent from entry to entry.
