Here's Mark Darrah going over the 2013 PAX DAI presentation, describing what existed then, and why things changed: Just watched this, it was interesting.

If I can't romance Leggy, can I at least romance a Broodmother? How about a leggy broodmother?

I could only watch it so long even with 2x speed, wish he'd edited it a bit. What I found interesting is that they still hadn't figured out how the game would work even though they'd popped out an alpha. And that they -used- to have landscape zoom ins and dropped them for mystery reason.

I liked the programmed tactics. I want to spend 15 minutes or less thinking about strategy at intervals, set it, and just do battle.
The only time I use Tac cam in DAI is the Haven Battle, when I'm trying to get ANYONE to just turn the darn knob already. Or I do it myself, and try to keep the others -actually- covering me and not just dying

I loved the tactical camera in DAO, but didn't use it much in DAI. It wasn't for lack of trying but... I'm not sure if my game had a bug or what, but trying to use the "Stay" command to keep my archers or my mages out of melee range was an exercise in futility. They would often leave their stations to come closer to the melee fighters.
The "Stay" command for me was not just frustrating in battles but also for some of the puzzles where you needed to have people in more than one place in order to activate something. It took me a long time to complete those because my party members just refused to stay put.
Anyway, it meant that tactical camera wasn't much use to me since everyone would end up in melee regardless.

Anyway, it meant that tactical camera wasn't much use to me since everyone would end up in melee regardless. I think the Stay command only works if the character that is supposed to stay put is not in movement, which means that in a battle or when solving puzzles you basically have to switch to the character, stop him\her from moving in the location you want them to stay, and only then pressing "Stay". Overall, yeah, it's frustrating. I wonder how will the tactical camera work in DA4. Unless there isn't a tactical camera mode...

I used the TacCam quite often, for 2 reasons: Reason 1: Casting Dispel on the small rifts to keep the Demons from spawning. (much easier in taccam mode) Reason 2: Screenshots!

Tac Cam - if it's there, it needs to work as smoothly as DAO. This is not an impossible engineering feat, but then we have DAI as an example of how they could not really figure it out.
Game with MP added becomes more of an action game with RP elements.
I hope it's there, but this one might get the axe this time. If it's there, the implementation better work.

I'd be surprised if we see TC in DA4, it wasn't a well used feature, and as Mark mentioned it takes extra art/design/level assets to have it in game.

The probablem with tac cam wasn't that people didn't use it. It's that it didn't work as they hoped, so people didn't use it.
The mounts worked fine as mounts. But they weren't much faster and they block banter, so we don't use them. Should we go mount free next game? Only if they aren't willing to make them functional. Same for tac

The probablem with tac cam wasn't that people didn't use it. It's that it didn't work as they hoped, so people didn't use it. Yep, I found it really awkward and annoying so didn't bother. Unlike DAO, I found I could manage real time combat with no problem. If they went back to the system they used for DAO then I might be interested again. The mounts worked fine as mounts. But they weren't much faster and they block banter, so we don't use them. Should we go mount free next game? Only if they aren't willing to make them functional. Same for tac That was also really annoying that they blocked banter, even more so if you dismounted to hear the end of a conversation, as though the companions had been merrily chatting away but you missed it. I also never understood the perks related to mounts. Why would you need them? This made me wonder if they originally had been going to have some sort of provision for mounted combat but then dropped it for lack of time. Apart from running over innocent critters, it was impossible to use them for combat as the moment the mount was hit, you were bucked off and it disappeared. It was a pity, because I really liked having mounts and they did make big spaces, like the Hissing Wastes, much more bearable but they really hadn't thought out the negatives.

Matthew Goldman @sergoldmanThis is a really cool DA2 set! My little one likes Anders best because he "has lightning shooting out." The boy likes Fenris cuz he is badass, not wrong. Merrill has never looked better imo. Something for everyone. Thanks @caffeinerogue!

... yikes I smell some serious incel energy going on here and it is gross. its just the same GamerGate-type bullshit, only the 2021 version. Literally no difference, especially not in motive or justification. And so the presumption is always that the woman is lying, or exaggerating, or whatever, completely irrespective of all others facts, evidence, or sense. The stated reasons only come after this presumption... if at all. And so it is here. Sad, but not especially surprising, since its coming from the same posters. Give them this- at least they're consistent.
