Joshua Stiksma @joshstiksmaY'all know this is true. #CurrentMood It's incredibly important to have self-discipline in the final stretches. I find myself struggling with this every time, but know that I'll get way burnt out and possibly even jeopardize ship dates if I try for all those sweet low priority bugs. For those unfamiliar, it's something like this: P1 = fix immediately (crash, data corruption, major cert issue) P2 = must fix (progression blocker, minor cert issue) P3 = want to fix (negatively affects player experience) P4 = nice to fix (aesthetic, non-intrusive to gameplay) As such, a lot of the visual and "feel" stuff ends up as P3 and P4. Hard to take in, but important to accept: - P1/P2 ships the game. - P3/P4 make it better, but don't matter if you didn't ship the game. Patrick Weekes @patrickweekesJust call me the eff out, why don't you David Mergele @elegremWhere are those sweet, sweet workflow bugs I needz to fix in this priority list? Joshua Stiksma @joshstiksmaWorkflow bugs are cursed while closing out games. Don't worry though, we'll totally prioritize them for <insert_sequel_name_here>! David Mergele @elegremStraining to resist replying...

Patrick Weekes @patrickweekesWait. Are we paradox-bootstrapping the game? This is great! I can’t wait to see how I handled this one part I was stuck trying to figure out! P1 = fix immediately (crash, data corruption, major cert issue) P2 = must fix (progression blocker, minor cert issue) P3 = want to fix (negatively affects player experience) P4 = nice to fix (aesthetic, non-intrusive to gameplay) Those are just the euphemisms. In actual practice, they are: P0: The P1s you REALLY have to fix, or you're fired P1: Product will ship with some hundred of these still open/not fixed, but lowered to P2 so that we can say we shipped with no open P1s P2 (though marked as P1): UI/experience changes that the creatives think ought to be a P0, and spend hours in bug triage meetings arguing for, and engineering humors them by marking them P1, but really, they are treated as P2 P3: "For the next release" ... and then never get fixed P4: Don't make me laugh! Things are only marked P4 as a direct insult to the person filing the issue ticket. It's as good as saying, up yours! /s

Calwyne @calwyndirtharanLOOK WHAT SHOWED UP ON GAMESTOP UK TODAY! O.O Assuming this is just a mistake? But 😶😶😶😶😶😶😶😶😶 @biomarkdarrah @patrickweekes @biomarykirby - That's both awesome and hilarious! There's no way in hell, but I am curious how that mistake was made... Well, I think it's obvious that with everything that is happening now in Bioware, this is just some mistake or and early placeholder for the "distant" future but then again, I remember very well what Walmart did last year with unexpected leak of announcing RAGE 2 on their shop and I believe that atleast 90% of people including me though that it was fake. And it suprisingly wasn't. So while all this sounds really ridiculously, maybe it isn't that far fetched for near/notsofar future. And as OhDaniGirl mentioned, DA devs made fun of it but didn't actually denied or dismissed it directly soooo... us naive optimist can have a really small hope that it can be true. And as Iron Bull said "It could happen that it will come out in 2019. It won't. But it could."

Jason Schreier @jasonschreier Please do keep in mind that nobody, including the team behind Dragon Age 4, knows what Dragon Age 4 will ultimately look like. It's changing every day, and the negative reception to Anthem (plus EA's awful recent track record) might have a very real impact.
I mean, hell, maybe the Dragon Age 4 leads will gather all the negative reactions to this article, put them into a PowerPoint presentation, and use them as leverage against EA's pressure. Stranger things have happened.

I’m going through so many different emotions rn. How are you guys holding up?
For one, I’m feeling physically sick for the people at BioWare. 2 years of hard and exciting work on Joplin just basically wasted... I’m upset for these people more than the game but damn, I’m upset about the game a lot. The only thing I don’t like that I read specifically about the game was the whole ‘other players choices effecting outcomes’ bit. No thank you. The reason I love these games are the fact that I shape the world.
I could go on and on but...damn. I’m going to be happy to play whatever they put out, I just hope on hope that they get where they need to happily and healthy.

It’s the equivalent of the game show ‘here’s what you could have won’ moment. You have a concept that while it no doubt would have changed was at its core exciting from a sp rpg POV. Anthem with dragons (is no doubt coming from unhappy ex devs) but that doesn’t mean there’s not horrible sp sacrifices being made at the altar of the god of live services.

It’s the equivalent of the game show ‘here’s what you could have won’ moment. You have a concept that while it no doubt would have changed was at its core exciting from a sp rpg POV. Given how speculative the article is about how the heck DA4 is actually going to look like I think we're doing ourselves a disservice when we deem anything we've read as either not happening anymore (in some form at least) or 100% supposed to happen as it was described to us if Morrison was still Joplin. Projects like that rarely do, even if it's smooth sailing from start to finish, especially that what we got was super-vague anyhow. We just don't know at this point and likely won't know, because sure as heck current devs aren't going to confirm or deny anything, especially if doing so risks betraying anything specific about current incarnation of the project that they technically have to officially pretend has not been revealed (only teased, not announced). Eh, I don't know whether those were even ex-devs - if you read the sentence carefully, the "Anthem with dragons" is merely, and I quote: 'rumor among BioWare circles'... which, for all we know, may just be us, fans or people like Schreier, with some contacts inside the studio. I mean, according to the article itself, when that description was put in front of current BW devs, they dismissed it outright.

I’m going to be happy to play whatever they put out, I just hope on hope that they get where they need to happily and healthy. Don't be. Nobody anywhere said that anything is 'wasted'. Plans get shifted, cancelled or pivoted wholesale all the time across entertainment industry and within the scope of one project or franchise. I remember how Gaider mentioned how he was stewing for a while after they cancelled DA2 expansion. And I definitely get it - you put yourself in that mind-space for the project, buzzing with ideas and... *bam*, then you have to let it go or re-calibrate. It can be like a bucket of cold water on the head, that's for sure. Probably even less than a cool feeling in an industry or studio with problems that were described. But the truth is that we simply don't know whether anything like that has even happened. How different is Morrison from Joplin? We have no clue and I have a feeling the author has only a little more clue than us, given how much guesswork there is in the article.

Honestly that was a bit underwhelming. The article makes it sound like the reboot had as much to do with needing to reassign most everyone to Anthem as it did with live services. Beyond speculation, it also really doesn’t give us any indication of how much has actually changed and it sounds like some employees were indicating there could be a lot of carry over.

What are the chances we get more information out of EA Play in a few months? I was hoping for maybe another teaser or something, but now I'm not so sure.

The fact that they dropped the teaser would indicate to me that they want to start building anticipation, so I expect we’ll get something. What, I don’t know, but they’ll probably have a trailer or a conceptual video.

A little on the defensive here? I have a feeling that the whole "Bioware magic" angle was more of Schreier's idea and he's been called out for it on public and private channels enough to make a clarification at the end of the article, and be all like 'there are more stories from employees and they are uglier, believe me!'. If I were a BW employee, even with all the crap going on internally, if there's one thing I wouldn't appreciate is probably making the wide audience think that these are problems endemic and unique to Bioware alone, when they are rampant across the industry. It's sad that BW didn't seem to rise above many of them, but it's one thing to make moves to fix one's nest and it's another to make it seem like BW is hell on earth full of deluded people. It will only serve as another memetic material for detractors, who will gleefully jump on occasion to mock the 'magic', while ignoring same practices anywhere else and will NOT help with communication between different sides.

Well, the last comic book makes it seem like they may have a continuation, but it's anyone's guess how that continuation is going to even look like, or when we're going to see any of it (although, to be fair, the last chapter of the last comic was published relatively recently, in December last year).
