I wanted the DA:I ones, but I couldn't justify the cost of the Collector's Edition for just the cards. I did wind up buying the two decks of playing cards that had the tarot theme from the BioWare store and just ignored the shipping price.

- From "The Hybrid Office", a recent video from Mark Darrah. A kind DA fan transcribed the segment where he talks about the challenges BW faced working-from-home.
"And then we suddenly all found ourselves working from home and every single studio became a distributed studio, without a lot of thinking or foreplan or forethought or systems put in place to regulate that. So now you have a team of 200 people in 200 different locations, in most cases still in the same timezone because they were still in the same city, because that was what happened, and you move to doing meetings online. Work was independent and you used Slack for communication and you had Zoom for your meetings. And over 2020 most of you [were] kind of figur[ing] out how to make that work okay.
But a lot of things were lost. Certainly, my leadership strategies, my leadership policies that I'd built up over 10 years did involve a lot of informal observation and communication that essentially became impossible to do because everyone was talking to each other through a strand of spun glass. So what happened in early 2020s is that suddenly the number of meetings exploded and then everyone figured out that that was terrible and then tried to do other things, and all kinds of things happened. I think most places have found something that is stable.
I'm not gonna get into an argument about whether or not people are more or less efficient in a work-from-home environment. I think it's very dependent on the team, the culture of the team and the individual involved. And I think when you are measuring individual performance that's the wrong measurement. The only thing you should care about when you're measuring velocity is the velocity of the team as a whole. And while I think you can make the argument that distributed development might even improve individual velocity, my experience is that it decreases team velocity.”

Yes, Mark is a "boss". But he isn't a suit. His hands have to get dirty. There are absolutely things that can be done remotely, as well or better, than in the traditional office space. Collaboration in an artistic endeavor is probably not one of them, unfortunately. This doesn't mean that a whole return to the office is necessary. I think Mark could find a happy medium, but for that to happen, there would have to be time where the team is actually physically together. This time doesn't have to be the majority, but it has to exist. I'm not creative enough to know the answer. It isn't my space - my work is a physical collaboration, and we plebs must work together regardless of danger or risk.

Does anyone believe that Bio will "upgrade" their CC with DA4? The game is in pre-production, so a decision to improve the quality of the CC is opportune. Andromeda's was a slight improvement over DA:I though the in game cinematics were wonky at times.
Before anything else, I spend a considerable amount of time in my Avatar creation and a decent CC in a RPG is one of the best aspects of a video game. It adds immersion, imo. Personally, I shudder avery time I use the FrostBite CC.

In what ways was MEA's CC better then DAI's. The only thing I'd say it was definitely better was hair texture's quality, which remained subpar. Overall, you had limited options in facial features, even more so compared to much you could customize each trait in DAI. Hair options for both were quite lackluster. Bioware definitely needs to improve the CC, but for me, the starting point should be DAI, not MEA.

Andromeda's was a slight improvement over DA:I though the in game cinematics were wonky at times. I 100% disagree on MEA's CC being better. It was more limited than the CC in the original ME trilogy. You couldn't mix and match facial features (eyebrows, eyes, skin texture etc.), it didn't match the lore of Ryder (being in their early 20's but most of the skin textures looked like they belonged on someone in their 30's at least). Even the hair isn't much of a improvement, only a few looked good aesthetically, but the texture still made them look like straw and 90% of the colors were neon (not a bad thing to have SOME neon colors, but even the natural ones looked like that). The only really good thing about MEA's CC was the fact that the faces looked realistic but only when static, as we all know how the animations and lip sync ended up. I'll take DAI's CC over MEA's any day of the week.

The CC... It is a really important minigame for some people. For a cinematic 3PP game, the face bones for custom faces have to animate emotively for every cutscene. This presents a limitation or an opportunity, depending on how you look at the volume stored in a cup.
This is the main constraint present in a BioWare CC - the face has to work. In Mass Effect, we could see the result of broken constraints with the various trollShep faces that could be made and have borked animations. This was somewhat improved in DAI/MEA.
The faces I have been most proud of in CCs are from DAO and DAI. My Dalish female Hero of Ferelden Blood Mage, Bom, is stunning to me. My male Dalish anti-Solas Inky is a unique character face I made that is inspired by my own face, but ended up as someone I look at like a brother I could have had. His face never looks dumb in cutscenes, which I was very happy with. He is a good dude.
I never customized Shep of either sex. I liked the defaults.
So, my mileage varies. I don't want the game to allow meme faces, because that results in memes that don't properly represent the game and can be used for too easy troll fodder. I do like the option of making something unique. Implementation is everything.

I mean, it’s a decent discussion point bro. But why did you put this in the Twitter thread, rather than creating your own thread for the topic? Is there a tweet I’ve missed about DA4’s CC? You got me excited about new news for no reason! As for your question(?), MEA’s creator is the second worst BioWare CC I’ve ever played (topped only by anthems pick a picture.) Inquisition, despite its terrible hair options, gave you complete freedom to design virtually any face you wanted and actually rewarded you for putting the time in. I’ll take a graphically upgraded version of that any day.

MEAs character creator is probably my second favorite after 2s. Inquisition's is near the bottom. To each their own. I have the complete different experience. I don't think somethign like DAI's CC in terms of customizing face is necessary, but the way you could customize facial features in MEA was quite limited...and the same goes for every ME game. It's generally better then in terms of texture quality compared to DA's CCs, but that's another issue. Not to mention that it's even more limited in terms of hairstyles and beard options.

I don't think I've ever been particularly impressed with Bioware character creators. They seem relatively limited and somewhat plagued by horrific lighting that makes restarts after game start quite common in the community it seems.
Mass Effect also has generally better ones than Dragon Age, but perhaps it being limited to humans made their job easier and such. Incidentally I liked DA2's CC the most (at the time) and that game too had only human protagonists.
Funny enough my favorite CC ever has to go to Crusader Kings 3, especially with the mod that unlocks the hidden options.
