So classes are either irrelevant at best or completely gone at worst. How are they continually making this worse?

While I ahd the same thought its worth pointing out that classes were pretty much just as irrelevant, in this regard, in Origins and 2. Only rogues could do any special environmental things.

To which they improved that with DAI. But like every good thing in DAI apparently, they through it out. And now there isn’t even lockpicking. Probably because you can’t control your teammates anymore.

An awesome DA Fan compiled a few more details from a recent DA:D playtest... Party Members: “I’ve played it. You can’t directly control party members. A more apt comparison (and it’s extremely weird that they didn’t reference this [referring to the first Insider Gaming report] considering it’s another bioware franchise) is Mass Effect. It’s exactly like ME’s wheel where you hold RB or whatever it was, and choose what ability they use.” “They can always change it, but I’ve played it and unfortunately, I can confirm. I personally don’t care as I never switch to companions in games where you can anyway, but it’s exactly like ME in that aspect.”
” [ I haven't played mass effect on console but I'm assuming the wheel is the console version of the tactical pause on pc? Does the wheel still pause the game? If it does then this would be a big improvement from full live action for me, I'd still prefer full party control and a pause button i can just click instead of holding down, but if i can pause the combat at any time to look, think, and activate my party's and my own abilities then that would go a long way. Elf, black, male? White female red head? Mage, possibly female? Davrin, Harding, and an unknown female mage?

While I ahd the same thought its worth pointing out that classes were pretty much just as irrelevant, in this regard, in Origins and 2. Only rogues could do any special environmental things. Could be that they've moved various environmental things like lock picking to skills/perks that any class can select.
Or that each class has it's own way of dealing with each environmental issue. Like Locked chest: - rogue picks it - warrior bashes it open - mage casts DA equivalent of "knock" spell. Scaling a wall/cliff: - rogue parkours up - warrior uses a grappling hook and chain - mage levitates Or they could just have different things that distinguish them.

An awesome DA Fan compiled a few more details from a recent DA:D playtest... What the playtest entailed: “Certain part of the game. I played specific missions, story missions, so I wouldn’t know anything about the sidequest fluff.” “I played in the middle because that’s how most controlled tests for games work. You almost never just hit “new game” and start from the beginning.” Protagonist: “ Rook is the name of the protagonist. Like “Inquisitor” was in DA:I.” Someone speculated that Rook would be a fridged prologue companion like Jenkins Masseffect (F) and they replied “As someone who has played the game, don’t try your hand at the lottery for a while lol.” Party Members: “I’ve played it. I personally don’t care as I never switch to companions in games where you can anyway, but it’s exactly like ME in that aspect.” ”Dreadwolf has a lot of similarities with previous games in the franchise;“ AND ”You can recruit members to your team"; The article basically just describes a Dragon Age game. ***POSSIBLE SPOILER*** “It’s understood that you’ll be able to move from your hub to missions by passing through a mirrored portal.” Portals & Open World: [re: mirrored portrals and an open world]: “I can’t confirm the existence of one, I could’ve just never experienced it from my time with the game, but I myself never played anything that could be considered open world. Funny enough, I never thought about that until your question just now. But it would make sense from what I played.” Q: “Does it feel like a medieval fantasy game still? It looks so sci fi to me, like the eluvians are shitty Rick and morty style portal guns all of the sudden. Does the neon purple take away from that feeling at all?” A: “It didn’t feel sci-fi to me but it sounds like you’re referring to a deeper level than just baseline aesthetics, and for that I think it’d be subjective. If you’re not though, no it still felt distinctly fantasy. Some parts more medieval than others.” Someone also asked about warriors breaking stuff in the world, mages restoring terrain and rogues picking locks and they replied “Let’s just say…the game doesn’t play in a way that requires those anymore.” World Size: From what I played, it seems more instanced than open world like DA:I, so I can’t really compare it in size, and obviously the previous 2 games have been outclassed in terms of technology. Graphical Details: Graphics are for sure upgraded. The flora in particular I would say wouldn’t have been able to be created before the PS5 gen. It’s that good. Environments, clothing, faces were up there as well (clothing and faces could’ve been better with your character, but everyone else’s were next gen). Q: "weird request. not even sure if you can answer this. can you attribute a single emoji to every companion you saw? like an out of context spoiler kind of thing" Q: "Hmmm I can try… *holds his hands up in the universal 'touchdown' sign for the name of the protagonist being 'rook.'* So friggin excited.
So six companions? Interesting.
'the game does not play where that is neccessary anymore'...uh oh. I can see some griping if that means what I think it could mean.
'more instanced then DAI'.
Interesting though kind of irrelevant. IMO DAI was also 'instanced' in the first place so this could mean anything at this point. Wait, 6 Companions? In any given party configuration, or ONLY 6 recruitable ones? Even if this doesn't count temporary ones like Cullen and Morrigan, that's too low. Not good...

Apparently these emojis come through differently depending on device "The screenshots I have included here are screenshots of the same comment from 2 different devices side by side, as emojis/emoji groupings can change appearance depending on OS etc." Hmm, both Maevaris and Calpernia have hair so blonde it's almost white 🤔

amazing Felassan has shared compilation of reddit comments of someone, claiming to have played the build. Full post Bits I found interesting: - "I’m not confirming or denying the existence of different origins, but “Grey Warden” was not the class." - "I've beaten all 3 [existing DA games] and have played Dreadwolf. It's nothing like the other games. It's action combat. Grounded though, not in a fantastical way like DMC." - They also confirmed the existence of skill trees, a map, choosing the PC's class, companions who used classes and jumping & a jump button. They said that there are 4 ability slots - (In relation to article from Insider) "I've played it and can confirm everything in that article except for the release date and multiplayer stuff. You cannot directly control your companions, and its full hack and slash". "Multiplayer I didn't experience, nor did I experience the hub world that was described, although the portal thing is true." - On game readiness: "Tbh, they could’ve said it was releasing at the end of the year and I’d believe them. The only thing I could see that wasn’t finished were the voice lines, and not even that many weren’t recorded. Maybe 1/10th. Graphics were superb except for the facial animations (and given Andromeda, that might just be how they’re going to stay). Controls were solid, enemies were solid, abilities were solid, UI and menu all looked unique and finished. General gameplay was in a finished state. Had a couple glitches here and there but nothing that couldn’t easily be ironed out." - someone commented on party size, and they replied "Yeah, 2 party members and then a third based on what mission you're playing. Weapon wheel to control 3 abilities each for the two companion's you've brought and then 4 of your own abilities." - DA lore questions, and what the storytelling/spread of storytelling is like and they said "I was dropped in and out of missions, so idk, but I will say it has A LOT of story elements from DA:O" (Possibly because of Gray Warden storyline?) - "I think the character designs are sick, but that's completely subjective." - "Map design was one of the best parts, and boy were they gorgeous. The greenery specifically was the only thing in the game where I was like "This is exclusively next gen, like they couldn't have done this on last gen"."
They mentioned 2 party member you select and one will be static based on a mission. Am I to naive to hope for Dorian, Fenris, Inquisitor, Hawke, Alistair or other cameos? Please. Bioware, if someone from the company reads it, let me play as Iqn (or see how my previous hero is doing)
It appears DA4 (combat wise) is a Dragon Age game in name only . There is no surprise if the mage is once more nerfed. Four abilities hu? sigh.....

Bio will change the name of the protag, I bet. I wonder how pissed off the studio feels at the moment.
I pray it's a marketing stunt.

No I think there were 3 that were hinted at, but only from what they saw in their demo, so there’s undoubtedly more than 3 companions. As Abso pointed out - one is a black male elf, one is a redhead, one is a female mage. Perhaps Davrin is the elf and the redhead is the dwarven companion mentioned. Don’t know who the mage could be.

I think that as a spy code name Rook is fine, chess pieces are as good a thing to use for code names as any. But then I've never been especially enamored with Inquisitor, Herald, Hawke, or Warden. Tends to be the context of such things that make it cool rather then the word in of itself.

It's a small slice of the game. one must admit.... melee combat. I wish another leaker leaks the mage combat slice. At the moment, the game's attraction is the 75% sale reduction price. (◔‿◔) _________________ ==============

I love Rook as our code name . An often-underestimated chess piece, a clever bird and a verb meaning 'to steal or cheat' all contribute to a great name for someone who will be going after Solas from the shadows. Unrelatedly, I spent yesterday compiling a list of crow and raven related first names for absolutely no reason whatsoever. (Yeah I know it's too early to name all my characters but lets be honest they've had planned genders and classes for years at this point, might as well.)

This is going to be a bit of nerd talk, but just going to state it's the most often OVER-estimated chess piece. Commonly regarded as the second most powerful endgame piece outside of the queen, beginners will protect it at all costs often putting themselves in worst positons or outright mating themselves (MAH ROOOOOOOK) whereas masters will sometimes sacrifice it and prefer a well placed bishop.
Just continuing my habit of offering useless and unwanted tidbits of information. EDIT: Sorry spoiler tags disappeared. Wooooo got it

How is the piece that while strong just charges blindly in a straight line a good choice for that? Makes us sound like we’re playing an idiot. And the verb definition I just hate since if that fits our character’s personality they’re already against what I want to play as.

I hate how for many "skill" has been reduced to twitch reactions and aiming. I'm far more impressed by someone setting up amazing tactics than someone getting a good headshot. Nah, mechanics can be impressive too. There are tactics when it comes to reactions and aiming such as positioning, the type of weapon of you got, where you're aiming your shots, how you're leading them. Etc. If you mean something like Xenoblade Chronicles than i see that. But for Good of war or some other hack and slash i don't get it.
