arstechnica.com/gaming/2023/01/rpg-fans-irate-as-dd-tries-to-shut-its-open-game-license/WOTC (Hasbro) has decided to revoke its original 20 years old Open Gaming License (OGL), which it promised it won't, with a newer more strict license which would allow it to take money from any creation that uses the D&D ruleset and also to use it for its own purposes without paying the creators. Aside from the fact that game rules cannot be copyrighted, Hasbro can't even claim to be its original creators, since Chainmail's (1971) ruleset is based on Len Patt's rules that were created for an unlicensed Middle-Earth game in 1970 as well as Siege of Bodenburg by Henry Bodenstedt which was released in 1967. So unless Hasbro wants to enter into a lawsuit with the Tolkien Estate they better reconsider the wording in the OGL.

I think they took on too many games that it blew up their budget. Ubisoft needs to restart and do some remakes before making new IPs. I was reading that Ubisoft has twice as many employees as EA and their overall revenue isn't as high as EA. I think that will be where you are going to be seeing the headlines next as Ubisoft reduces its workforce.

Hasbro has no real emotional connection to D&D. The people who created and promoted the OGL are long since gone and just like every other publicly traded corporation, Hasbro is concerned only with extracting the most return out of their assets. The whole thing is similar to promises made by EA at various points, Ubisoft, NCSoft, Microsoft, Disney, etc. The decision makers have no interest, involvement or connection with the property and have no incentive to honor promises made by their predecessors.
It's the way of the world.

Hell they could support RTalsorian and take it to those corpo c**ts by playing Cyberpunk Red! * This post Is 100% biased, having struggled for months to find people who want to play something that wasn’t “the critical role game” )

Sad fact is all of the original games companies were started by young gamers that made games for people like themselves ie Gygax,Jamie Thomson,Steve Jackson,Ian Livingstone ect they are all gone(either dead or bought out) and their companies are run by corporate interests that care not one iota about you the customers, past what they can wring from your wallets.

That’s every successful industry. Corporatism is the enemy of the creative soul. The Spanish speaking source that claimed the Metal Gear Remake will be announced after TGAs 2022 is now saying this: areajugones.sport.es/videojuegos/el-remake-de-metal-gear-solid-para-ps5-es-real-y-se-anunciara-pronto-segun-fuentes-propias/They are apparently semi-credible given their past record of leaking PS+ games but who knows.

The voice actor for Raiden from MGS is now being cheeky and implying a big announcement when someone brought up Metal Gear: It might actually be happening, given that Voice Actors have a tendency of leaking announcements.
Gaming outlets are also picking it up:
Rumour: Metal Gear Announcements Coming Soon as Remake, Remaster Gossip Returns
Judging by what the author is saying, it might just be a remaster of Metal Gear Rising which is appreciated but fans have been begging for the mainline games on modern consoles for quite a while.

Looks like Marvel's Avengers is ending in September which is a littl ebit of a shame. Had they not tried t omake it an always onlin egame a swell as had the optoin of being single player it might hasve worked. It needed to commit to one or the other to truly be successful I think.
Probabl ywill give the game another shot when th efinal update goes live as I'v egot to admit I kind of feel like playing the reassemble campaign again at least. The stor ywas goodas was the comba tfor the most par tI think it was just unnecessarily grindy imo. Plus Iron man felt a bit like a glass cannon without companions alongside him. Which didn' t help when it came to the missions where he's on his own.

I will have to give them credit, they are keeping the servers up and if I understand correctly they are everyone access to the DLC for free.
The problem from what I saw was that the games as a service elements were just too much of a grind, so the elements to get people to stay and play chased them off instead of keeping them playing. I didn't buy the game, but from what I gathered on YouTube is that the opening segment of the game is vastly better than the games as a service element. That gives me the impression that this wasn't designed to be a GGAS, but it was tacked on after development started which means it wasn't fully thought out.

Yeah it jus tdidn't know what i twanted to be whether to be a single playernarrativ edriven game or a glorified MMO. I ntrying to b eboth it screwed itself over. Don't ge tm ewrong th estory wa brilliantl ytold. The yjus tmade the post campaign stuff ovrel ygrindy in order t oget anywhere that's th emain reason why I stopped playing in theend personall yI enjoyed the comba though because i treminded me of an old Fantastic 4 game I played. But as I said I'm thinkin gof going back in t opla ythe campaign again as it was a well told story. I think given Outriders als ofell on it's face recentl ytoo I think nexttim ethe yneed to decide whixch wa ydo the ywan tto go single playe ro rMMO don' ttry to do a mix of both otherwise you risk the sam ething happening again. This fo rme is why Midnight Suns succeeds and Avengres fails Midnight Suns knows irt's a single player game plays like a single player game and identifies as on ean ddoesn' ttry t obe anything other than that. I'll probabl ysave m yrun until afte rthe last update goes live though so that I can access it all. Mostly because I d owantto pla ya tleas tthe reassemble bit again. But yeah I will give them cerdit fo rthe promise t okeep th eservers up for now and unlocking the DLC fo everyon ewho bought the game. But had it not been as grindy as it turned out I might have stuck with it because it seemed like it had quite a fwe promising elements.

I have been out of the loop on this, because any game with zombies = hard pass.
But I have seen the game's name (The Day Before) around, even on Steam. Seems it may turn out as one of the biggest scams this year.

Don't recall it having zombie hordes as main enemy and story focus. Mass Effect also is not a game about a zombie apocalypse. There are only a few such enemies. And yeah, they are still annoying.

Never heard of it and it's not in my Steam. Is this one of the crowdfund scams like SC? Apparently the game has been one of the top 3 wishlisted games on Steam in a while. Largely due a "gameplay" trailer that looks fake as hell. It's not crowdfunded, but the studio making it has taken money from Nvidia to promote their tech for the game.

It is currently off the Steam Store. What I have read is that they didn't lock up the rights to the name before the first announcement and someone else registered it. A few months ago I watched a video that really put a red flag onto the game, but I wasn't that interested either.

I played about 30min of the Dead Space remake today and now it is at the top of my purchase list. I was a little indifferent to it to begin with due to the track record of a lot of remakes, but unlike most modern releases I didn't encounter any bugs and it is a worthy tribute to the original release while having the quality of life updates for a game released 15 years late. It was a bet with my brother I didn't mind losing for he told me I would be hooked with only playing a short time.
