I have no problem if they raise the prices. They've been selling underpriced for a long time (and still would be at only $10 price hike). Plus that might mean less things like microtransactions to make up for the costs.
Underpriced? Lol, no. Far from it. If anything, they are overpriced. Raising the prices is just from greed and "we know we can get away with it" mentality. I can go on a long rant on the subject, but better not to 😉

It has nothing to do with the size of the teams and the length of development. Yes, games were smaller back in the day and costed 60 bucks. But the audience was also much, much smaller and niche.
Halflife 1 was a massive critical and commercial success. It released in 1998. By 2004 it has sold 8 million copies. Today, if an AAA shooter sells less than 10 million in less than 2 weeks, it's laughed out of the park as a failure.
The development costs might have gone up, but the sales and the market have increased many times more than that.

They’re in no way underpriced, and they’re essentially gouging for nothing. And to add insult to injury, the game that’s testing the waters in this unjustified price hike is a goddamn basketball casino, using freemium trash while also charging full price, further bolstering how much of a fucking sham sports games really are. Let’s not kid ourselves here. The price hike is indeed unjustified. They can well afford to retain the same old retail. TakeTwo Interactive makes fuck-tons of cash with the games in their library, like the ongoing Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 Online. The best part though is that it will probably succeed because of these suckers that eat this shit up.

www.ign.com/articles/sony-epic-games-ps5-investment Sony acquires minority stake in Epic Games, i wonder how will this affect XB support on the UE engine, though I can definitely expect more PS exclusives to be Epic Games exclusive when they come to PC.

Plus, its worth noting a few things. Games have stayed at 59.99 US, and just for fun I decided to look up what $59.99 Kuwaiti Dinar is in US currency. Its $195.00. Lets do that. LOL.

I mean it’s a 10 dollar spike in a next gen console. I’m not surprised that they are testing the price limits. Besides how many gamers will have next gen consoles by the time the game comes out any way.

It’s a $10 spike for basically nothing at all. It being next-gen doesn’t really add much value in and of itself, especially since other developers are not imposing any such hike to upgrade. I’m not surprised that they’re testing it, but my hope, as small and likely doomed as it is, is that this test fails miserably. Unfortunately, TakeTwo know full well there’s plenty of suckers lined up that’ll eat it up and prove it to be a success.

For AAA games right off the bat it means upgraded art assets and therefore more staff, which means more salary, which means a higher budget for games. When going from the PS3 to the PS4 era, some developers were talking about having to double their budget for models and the same was for the step between PS2 to PS3.
Frankly I don't mind an increased price point for AAA games because that means more room for AA games to breathe. It means the games with the highest budget can be priced highest and there's room underneath for smaller studios to still price their games at a point which doesn't compete with AAA games and allows them to recoup some costs. Right now smaller studios are having their games compete with AAA games and it's driving studios out.

Very much this.
