Wonder how many people bought an Xbox One X instead of an Xbox Series X amzn.to/2FUBpeS

I'm curious, since the Series S is basically an One X equivalent console, in terms of hardware performance, would you not be able to play at similar settings? Of course, there's no super fast SSD for the quick loading thingy or what you call it, but theoretically, you could already be owning a Series S.
I don't know what Microsoft aims to do.

It was bound to happen, some parent/grandparent buying it for their child/grandchild getting easily confused, the marketing team should've expected that. Someone gonna have a bad christmas.
In terms of power the XB1X and XBSS are somewhat similar but obviously don't have the new graphical features and the SSD also XBSS is digital only, also Microsoft only plans to support the XB1 for 2 years and only with first party titles, third party developers don't have to support the XB1.
First time I've pre-ordered a console for launch (The correct Series X)

I've only an interest in one IP in the Bethesda stables; Dishonored. Here's hoping to more Dishonored games from Arkane Studios now that MS is the boss. Hoping MS will clean up Bethesda and get it running right again.
Ugh, video game oligarchy isn't good for anybody, least of all us.
I was considering picking up an Xbox eventually for gamepass, it looks like a pretty solid service (I sold my xbox one years ago because they weren't bringing out anything I was interested in), but I'm kind of annoyed that I would most likely HAVE to buy one to play Elder Scrolls and Fallout. I seriously doubt that they have any genuine intention of bringing their bigger games to competing platforms.
Yeah, I ain’t buyin’ no fucking XBox Series Edition XR 1B. I do wonder which company(ies) they’ll eventually kill off when they decide to streamline their efforts.

yep. And I very much hope they don't buy more gaming studios because if they're the only game company releasing titles, they can do whatever shit they want and the consumer won't have any options.

I ... I ... I probably will. Like, I'm not buying day 1, but you can bet I'm getting one.
I'm sorry.

Just be sure not to fall victim to their silly naming conventions when you purchase, otherwise you’ll find you wasted your money.

It’s remarkable how much of a sham sports games have become, and people will just continue to eat it up. Heck, you’ll still have apologists supporting the price hike for next-gen, all the while just accepting the aggressive MTX model that totally destroys that argument. This is ultimately an exceptionally low risk move for Microsoft. They have so much cash on-hand that they could do this multiple times and probably not really feel it. Up until now, people kept referring to this little console competition as if these companies were on equal footing, when in fact it couldn’t be farther from the truth. Microsoft is a vast behemoth, and now we’ll just have to see if their massive budget actually gets put to good use. Considering the history of publishers nickel and dimming the shit out of players, despite the immense wealth at their disposal, I can’t say that I’m brimming with optimism.

I'm not saying anything new, but Microsft's acquisitions are really all about GamePass and XCloud. The former provides an impetus for a constant stream of content of various sizes, and the latter provides access on as many devices as possible.
They'd absolutely put XCloud on PS consoles if Sony would let them.

They were at 10 million subscribers six months ago, if I recall and made an announcement of 15 million subscribers a few days ago, if I am not mistaken. It's certainly working for Microsoft and with a good enough connection, at that price point, they may become the Netflix of video games. Phil Spencer may have knocked it out of the ballpark.

I just wonder if this is actually going to go anywhere. I see plenty of studios that their first game is sold a lot on their prior credits of a really big studio that is or was beloved such as Blizzard or BioWare and the first game does well, but when the second game is released and they aren't riding on that prior studio experience and instead of their own work the sales drop. The Banner Saga I think might be a good example for the first game anything I read on the game included the phrase "former BioWare developers" leaving out the BioWare Austin part of BioWare developers and the game sold pretty well for a small studio (according to SteamSpy 500,000 and 1,000,000 copies), but just four years later the third game selling on the prior two games didn't fair as well (again SteamSpy 100,000 to 200,000 copies sold). Makes me wonder if it was because of the association no longer being there or something else in the mix that hurt sales for the reviews themselves indicated they weren't piles of burning trash.

Because they genuinely enjoy the game? I guess consumer choice doesn't matter if it's something they do something do something you disagree with.
www.ea.com/ea-desktop-beta Got invited to the program today, currently it still uses it's old name "Origin Beta" in the program and not "EA Desktop" except for the icon and folder name. It currently doesn't replace the existing Origin client and is missing features like FPS counter/voice/command line/etc. But at least the UI is darker and a little easier to navigate, also it's currently only 227MB compared to Origin's 355MB.

Not that there are a whole lot of consumer choices available, other than simply not playing a game themed around a sport the player enjoys. Like, if they hate what EA does with, say, FIFA, but really wants to play a FIFA game, I guess they can just watch the actual games and play soccer themselves. It’s one thing to enjoy a thing that’s unfortunately marred by bad practices, but it’s another thing when people make excuses for those bad practices, even when it means worse value and less consumer friendliness.

For sure. Although it was pointed out that Sony isn't really MS's competition - it's Google, Amazon, etc.
Consoles & PCs are just a small part of it for MS - the money's really in getting wide GP adoption on the 2.5 billion Android devices (no real surprise). And TVs (Orion's tech should help them there too). Getting GP on a few million PS5s would be nice, but obviously small potatoes by comparison.
Fallout was used as an example. People always talk about Fallout 4 and 76, but in terms of audience - Fallout Shelter utterly dwarfs them. That's probably more than the number of people who've played all the Fallout games combined.
