I just wonder if this is actually going to go anywhere. I see plenty of studios that their first game is sold a lot on their prior credits of a really big studio that is or was beloved such as Blizzard or BioWare and the first game does well, but when the second game is released and they aren't riding on that prior studio experience and instead of their own work the sales drop. The Banner Saga I think might be a good example for the first game anything I read on the game included the phrase "former BioWare developers" leaving out the BioWare Austin part of BioWare developers and the game sold pretty well for a small studio (according to SteamSpy 500,000 and 1,000,000 copies), but just four years later the third game selling on the prior two games didn't fair as well (again SteamSpy 100,000 to 200,000 copies sold). Makes me wonder if it was because of the association no longer being there or something else in the mix that hurt sales for the reviews themselves indicated they weren't piles of burning trash. FWIW lower sales for sequels-in-the-same-story are very typical (outside of glow-ups like ME or The Witcher). Just look at FF13 and its sequels on Steam. 13-2 is typically called the better game, and it sold half as much as 13 (and half again for LR). I wouldn't use sequel sales as an indicator.

The Talos Principle 2 is 'definitely' still happening, Croteam sayswww.pcgamer.com/the-talos-principle-2-is-definitely-still-happening-croteam-says/?utm_content=buffere8c54&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=buffer-pcgamertw"But Talos 2 is definitely happening, we definitely have a plan, we have a pretty good story that I'm very happy about. Because it's very difficult to do a good sequel like that, especially when the first game kind of wraps up the plot in hopefully a satisfying way for most players, and you don't want to just go, 'Oh that didn't happen, and now you have to do it again!' So we have a very interesting, very ambitious story for the second one, and then we just have to execute it."- Yes! The Talos Principle is easily in my Top 3 Indie Games. But yeah, it'll be interesting to see how they continue it.

This kinda puts a dent into the hopes for a 3080Ti. Maybe Nvidia will just go with releasing 16 and 20GB versions for the 3070 and the 3080. Code for "we are really trying not pulling an "Anthem" here, but so far not so good"?

I'm not saying anything new, but Microsft's acquisitions are really all about GamePass and XCloud. The former provides an impetus for a constant stream of content of various sizes, and the latter provides access on as many devices as possible. They'd absolutely put XCloud on PS consoles if Sony would let them. For sure. Although it was pointed out that Sony isn't really MS's competition - it's Google, Amazon, etc. Consoles & PCs are just a small part of it for MS - the money's really in getting wide GP adoption on the 2.5 billion Android devices (no real surprise). And TVs (Orion's tech should help them there too). Getting GP on a few million PS5s would be nice, but obviously small potatoes by comparison. Fallout was used as an example. People always talk about Fallout 4 and 76, but in terms of audience - Fallout Shelter utterly dwarfs them. That's probably more than the number of people who've played all the Fallout games combined. Fallout Shelter is one of the shittiest games I ever played. Had a look at it when it released on Steam.

Sean Murray @nomanssky No Man's Sky OriginsVersion 3.0 A huge update to the universe. Billions of new worlds to discover. Rich in variety with new flora & fauna. More detailed, vast and diverse than ever possible before. Free - Out Now on PS4, XBox, VR & PC Patch notes - nomanssky.com/origins-update/ Figures. Four years after release and two after I bought it they FINALLY do an exploration overhaul and I cannot play because I have tendonitis or elbow nerve inflammation. That is just great. I hate 2020, lol. Exciting update though. The patch notes are impressive, holy shit. Volcanoes, tornadoes, giant sandworms. Everything people have been asking for. The universe is trolling me...

The Verge @vergeAmazon announces new cloud gaming service called Luna theverge.com/2020/9/24/21451371/amazon-luna-cloud-gaming-service-twitch-alexa-controller?utm_campaign=theverge&utm_content=chorus&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitterIt’s not clear when Luna will launch widely, but it will initially be available on PC, Mac, Fire TV, and iPhone and iPad (via web apps), with an Android version planned for after launch. Amazon says that interested users in the US can request early access to the service starting today. There’s no word on international availability. The service will be available for an “introductory price” of $5.99 a month during its early access phase, which gives subscribers the ability to play games across two devices simultaneously and offers 4K / 60fps resolution for “select titles.” Naturally, it will be powered by AWS, Amazon’s ubiquitous web platform. Amazon says more than 100 games will be available, and launch titles include Resident Evil 7, Control, Panzer Dragoon, A Plague Tale: Innocence, The Surge 2, Yooka-Laylee, GRID, Abzu, and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. Amazon says more titles will be added “over time.” The company has also partnered with Ubisoft for a specific “gaming channel.”

And with those titles at launch, I don't see it having a good time. I'd play RE7, but that's pretty much it.

It’s remarkable how much of a sham sports games have become, and people will just continue to eat it up. Heck, you’ll still have apologists supporting the price hike for next-gen, all the while just accepting the aggressive MTX model that totally destroys that argument. This is ultimately an exceptionally low risk move for Microsoft. They have so much cash on-hand that they could do this multiple times and probably not really feel it. Up until now, people kept referring to this little console competition as if these companies were on equal footing, when in fact it couldn’t be farther from the truth. Microsoft is a vast behemoth, and now we’ll just have to see if their massive budget actually gets put to good use. Considering the history of publishers nickel and dimming the shit out of players, despite the immense wealth at their disposal, I can’t say that I’m brimming with optimism. Because they genuinely enjoy the game? I guess consumer choice doesn't matter if it's something they do something do something you disagree with. Exactly I know I htoroughl yenjo yFifa every yea rand I' m looking forward to Fifa 21 in a couple of weeks though I don' ttouch any o fthe Ultimate team stuff I jus tenjo yplaying the career moe and story mode stuff.

Aren't Stadia and xCloud (and GeForce Now too I think) running on Amazon Web Services (AWS)?, in USA with the absence of net neutrality nothing stops Amazon from throttling it's competitors or unrelated to it is simply increasing the cost of AWS or limiting the technologies it makes available to it's competitors, possibly the only thing preventing that is Amazon's desire to remain the dominant cloud service provider.

Aren't Stadia and xCloud (and GeForce Now too I think) running on Amazon Web Services (AWS)? I thought xCloud was running on MS's Azure. Now I'm thinking MS really needs to buy EA.

We haven't forgotten it, it's just not actually true. There's no guarantee that a game will ever be good, no matter how long it takes. Also, nowadays patches and DLC make it so that even a rushed game can eventually be good, if it isn't to begin with, so I don't know why people keep brandishing that quote about.

Have we forgotten this quote: We haven't forgotten it, it's just not actually true. There's no guarantee that a game will ever be good, no matter how long it takes. Like that Duke Nukem game that took 20 years to make yet was apparently still awful, and not just in the ways it meant to be.
