This is an online game right??? So you can bump into other people??? This is a Massively Multiplayer Online RPG. So the chances of that are... mediocre.

There's people around yes. You're pretty free to interact as little or as much as you feel like. I tried out ESO when it came out on consoles and by like the third mission or so, bosses even displayed as the same level as me were totally destroying me - I concluded this was intended to force us to group up so I uninstalled. Not so SWTOR. For main story, and even quite a few optional things (like Heroic Quests since they were nerfed), teaming up is entirely optional. If you were asking with the idea of hanging out with BSNers though, I think Cricket meant randomly running into one of us is unlikely due to the sheer numbers. Also the fact that chat and social windows display the character name, not the player name. If you know someone's account name, I think you can add them as a friend from some screen or other, and then you'll get notifications when they're online. I think mine is the same as Origin, but don't recall if that was luck of availability or if it works that way by default.

Great! Let us know what you start with.
A few things to be aware of, that can affect who you see:
So there's 2 factions, Imperial and Republic (or Imp and Pub); Each faction has 2 Force Classes, one medium-heavy and one light-medium, and 2 non-force classes (also one medium-heavy and one light-medium)
Pub Force, Pub Muggle, Imp Force and Imp Muggle each have a dedicated starting planet (though occasionally a same-Faction class story will send you to faction's other starting planet, but that's usually much later).
Once starting planet is done, all classes for each faction move on to the faction's capital planet. After that, order of (main) planets is the same within the faction (though you might occasionally have to run to different planet for a minor objective, or a companion quest).
You don't really run into anything cross-faction until you complete the main story and move on to expansions (unless you're planning on doing PVP or other stuff like that I've never bothered with.)

I think mine is the same as Origin, but don't recall if that was luck of availability or if it works that way by default. Could've also been a gearing issue. You always want more numbers in MMOs. It's secretly the genre for accountants. Thankfully that's almost gone in terms of solo PVE (i.e getting through the story) Also, you can only add a friend by character name in TOR. That does mean if they log into another character you won't see them. They don't have any account level communication. Then there's also the matter of which server. Most servers are ghost towns or on their way to becoming one. Harbinger (West Coast US) is the most populated followed by Shadowlands (East Coast US). I'm on the latter. Thank you So there are classes??? um so what are the differences in like powers and things??? haha um no I probably wont do pvp id rather fight with people than against them Oh boy... that's a lot to explain. Short version: PVP is now even more entirely optional than before. Basically you have PVE and PVP instances on every server. If you're set to PVE (by default) you will never fight another player unless you specifically choose to duel them or switch to PVP. PVP in the world is also faction based, so if you're Republic you'd only fight Imperials and vice versa. I'll answer the rest later.

Not only are there 16 subclasses, each subclass has 3 disciplines which affect your abilities. I know you can change your discipline on your fleet, I don't know if you can change subclass (maybe not?). Definitely can't change a character's class, though. Female republic trooper voice is Jennifer Hale, and female imperial agent voice is Jo Wyatt

I've never (yet) finished either Jedi story, but consensus seems to be Knight is more interesting. Oh, and I meant she wasn't used to her full potential as Bryn, not that she was on something. Though if she was, I wouldn't blame her. Also, I recommend going into 2 with an open mind - there are flaws certainly, but there's a lot to enjoy as well. Except MotA - no need for open mind there

Ok, let's see how much I can get out. So The Old Republic is an MMO. Think of it like a giant world where everybody runs around doing their own thing or you can group up and do things together. First you pick a server. Like I said go with the ones that still have decent populations: Harbinger (West) or Shadowlands (East). I'm on the latter if that matters. Then you pick your faction. Republic, Empire. Self Explanatory. Then you pick your class. So there are four classes per faction which are mirrored across factions. Which means they play the same, but the stories are obviously different. So you have: Republic | Empire
| Type
| Roles
| Influence (i.e be like...)
| Jedi Knight
| Sith Warrior
| Force user/melee, focus on lightsaber (melee combat)
| Damage, Tanking
| Luke Skywalker/ Darth Vader
| Jedi Consular
| Sith Inquisitor
| Force user/range, focus on force powers (range)
| Damage, Healing
| Yoda/Palpatine
| Trooper | Bounty Hunter
| Heavy pew-pews/gadgets (range/melee)
| All 3
| Third stormtrooper from right lol?/Boba or Jango Fett
| Smuggler
| Imperial Agent
| Light pew-pews/gadets +(stealth potentially) (range/melee)
| Damage Healing
| Han Solo/ no direct analogue (Thrawn/Mara Jade?)
|
Short description of the stories: Jedi Knight- the quintessential Star Wars story. Be a brave Jedi, defending the Republic and fighting the Sith. Pretty by the numbers, a little repetititve in the first act but good overall. Jedi Consular- There is no ignorance there is knowledge- The Consular focuses on seeking wisdom and diplomacy. Really slow first chapter but gets better. Trooper- You're an elite special forces soldier doing what no one else can- basically Shepard without the Space Jesus side. Smugger- a dashing rogue adventure, get rich and stay ahead of your enemies. You can basically be Han Solo. Sith Warrior- forge yourself into weapon of the dark side, hunting the enemies of the Empire and taking them out. -decent. Sith Inquisitor- master the very essence of the dark side and forbidden ancient rituals , and rise to be a true Dark Lord of the Sith- quintessential Sith story Bounty Hunter- you're a bounty hunter, you hunt things. The end. Imperial Agent- you're a super spy for Imperial Intelligence. Walk the fine line between pulling one over your enemies and staying ahead of your Bad Boss Sith overlords- excellent story, probably the least "Star Wars" but definitely the most intriguing. Gameplay overview: Knight/Warrior: melee, you hit stuff with your lightsaber. Consular/Inquisitor: range, you hit stuff with the Force (mostly) Trooper/BH: range (mostly) you shoot lots of stuff from rifles, cannons, missile launchers, flamethrowers etc. You're a walking arsenal. Smuggler/Agent: range (mostly) You shoot a pistor or rifle but also use blades or good ol' fisticuffs and subtler gadgets like small explosives or a stealth generator. Advanced classes: can get really confusing so wait until you play a bit lol.

Can you change servers whenever you want??? Not really. You get one free transfer after which it costs $10 per character, per move. You don't really need to change servers though.

The things I'd add to this is that Inquisitors/Consulars can actually be just as melee focused as Knights/Warriors depending on what advanced class you pick once you leave your starter planet. They're really the only base class where the two advanced classes you get to choose between are so fundamentally different. And the other thing is I feel you're selling the Warrior story short by only describing it as "decent" when it's clearly tied for best with the Agent, but that's just my personal opinion.

Well, yes Assasins/Shadows are melee and Vanguard/Powertechs and Operative/Scoundrels are even more counterintuitively "stealth melee"- but I get the feeling trying to explain all that would just confuse at this point. And I was actually being charitable about the warrior since I didn't want to pass bias to a complete newbie. But tied with the agent? lolno. The warrior is a tool, literally, for the entire run of his story and Baras is the most pathetic failure of a Sith Lord and archenemy short of Emo Ren making an appearance. Apart from Vette, there is little to be impressed with in his story as far as I'm concerned.
Now if Baras and Jadus has switched places...
