People respond differently to change and SWTOR isn't any different especially in every major updates.
Now, I understand the general grievance about the Galactic Command system. Gear drops from the crates and the ranking system is punishing and its purposely done so considering PVP/PVE gear are streamlined. It took me nearly a month and a half just to get one complete 230 DPS set for my Marauder/Sentinel, let alone the DPS/Tank/Healer sets for Juggernaut/Guardian, Sorcerer/Sage, Assassin/Shadow, Mercenary/Commando. Powertech/Vanguard, Sniper/Gunslinger and Operative/Scoundrel and I play all of them. I'm not even a frequent raider or an avid pvp player and I'm not even a recurring subscriber and I play mostly as a preferred player and I've been playing almost daily now and I'm not even nearing Tier II.
So yes, I know, it is frustrating.
Understandably, the current problem regarding the endgame gearing system was also rooted with the removal of crystals and warzone commendation. In the last couple of years, anyone would just play once in a while and grind enough comms and crystals and trade them between characters so you could get easy gearing especially for PVP players who could amass thousands of comms in a legacy and wait until the next update. But there have been several persistent exploits relating to these currency that was abused by the players and many profit from this including credit sellers and farmers which drive the inflation. Its not uncommon in 4.0 to see on GTN of players undercutting by selling legendary gifts in stacks of 99 to 999. By removing the currency, it mess with all endgame commendation gear vendors. Now, this is a problem for me too as the vendors is the only way for me to gear my alts quickly without grinding through Ops or buying overpriced crafted mods or subscribing. So now, I'm left with none of my 70 toons being geared even with the basic of Healer or Tank gear and because of the RNG, I have to forgo choosing Tank/Healer to favor DPS gears.. and likely for the entirety of 5.0. People who always geared through PVP and Ops might find the tokens as good compromise but... preferred players still get mightily shafted.
But with the introduction of level sync and bolsters in lowbie and midbie PVP and SM Ops, you don't really need to worry about being geared to the teeth. Even in tier 1, the crates drop a lot of schematics which also make this update more feasible to crafters. They're also useful for gearing alts, especially earpieces, implants and relics. However, the system's main appeal was toward players who dedicate their time into 5.0 for their specific main characters.... as opposed to grind-once-in-a-while-with-friends-every-once-in-a-year-or-two-since-launch players who also play other MMOs to fill the two-years-no-new ops drought (since Heart of Ruin which is really April 2015 but too bad, WBs wasn't real Ops enough or new enough or l33t enough). And since 4.0, we had regular world bosses and Ops included in the weekly as priority missions. We have Gree and Rakhghoul event recurring every month with each their own world bosses and Ops. Since 5.0, we have 20 new DvL world bosses that exist randomly only in victory state... but even in the most populated servers, hardly anyone would group up to do them and even those who do, they just end up on the fleet genchat constantly spamming LFM for hours even if its something on the groupfinder. With this in mind, I really couldn't blame Bioware for favoring easily manageable 4m content over 8/16m group content. While there's still core players and guild but they're just a niche that was getting smaller every day.
And to be honest, I'm pretty much fed up with this topic from the genchat, forums, reddit, twitter and all of these is making me even more sarcastic and bitchy than I like to be and I'm still feverish from this persistent flu...so... I'll make another post about cxp later. Gonna sleep.

Status update: Main is ranked 150 now, has a complete set of 230/234/236 gear with full set bonus. Alts are between 14 and 40, geared with 230 (mostly crafted), I also have a spreadsheet with all the schematics that I got from the various crates. GC is working well for me because my usual activities are quite efficient at ranking up, I also started to play GSF and doing lots of Uprisings (~30 a week or so), so it's easy to gain ~10 ranks each week. If I find some extra time I can do quite a lot more. They still need to remove the green and orange items from the GC loot table. Overall I like that I can gear up for ops now without having to go through the phase of doing ops without ops gear.

I've gotten mostly greens, with a couple useless orange bracer shells tossed in.

I just started playing SWTOR again. I'm trying to finish the main story on my light side Sith Warrior. After that I'm not sure. I might do a dark Sith Inquisitor, but the light side sith storyline is just so much more interesting.
The other characters I have at the moment are a dark side Smuggler, a dark side Consular, a light side Bounty Hunter, and a light side Trooper. I might post some pictures when I get around to it.

Ajna your sage is so pretty! She's wearing the same outfit I have on my 2 sages (my main is on Shadowlands but I have another on Jedi Covenant). I thought about trying ESO, but since I could never get into any of the elder scroll games on console I figured it would be a waste. Draining Dragon DS Inquisitor is so fun though. They are so batshit crazy, I mostly laughed while leveling mine because it was so ridiculous at times. Even though cricket doesn't like LS Warrior, I loved the story for mine. I rank it up there with my LS Agent. If either of you are on Shadowlands/Jedi Covenant/Ebon Hawk(I have some lowbies there) and want to hang, send me a holler.

All of my characters are LS bar my three boys, I can't bring myself to be either a) evil or a dick on my girls, I think I have a problem with self insertion, and I wanted to see DS stories, so I thought I'd try making male chars since I'm less likely to self insert with them because I don't have a penis irl. It worked! I love my boys... only one of them is kinda evil though, one ended up LS (Sith Warrior), one neutral (Sith Sorc) the other DS (Sith Warrior), all sith Pureblood. I'm in the UK so mine are spread across The Red Eclipse (main server), and The Progenitor, Im an altoholic.. I'm also mostly loyal to the Republic.

My Inquisitor was my only DS character for a long time because I had a hard time with it too....but then, she was so absurdly funny that I got brave and did a DS Warrior (male this time, it does kind of make it easier) and romanced Jaesa. Omg, she is way out there as DS. So I made a neutral/leaning slightly towards DS male Warrior and romanced Vette. I like him a lot more. I have yet to be able to make a DS trooper/sage or knight. It just seems so out of place for me. I'm thinking I can make a DS smuggler work though, but I haven't tried yet...because I love a LS silly smuggler girl with Corso so much.
Well, if you ever wanna give one of the US servers a try, let us know. Sometimes we play super late at night and we have vent if anyone wants to chat.

Yeah, I can imagine the DS Inquisitor is entertaining (because nobody expects the Sith Inquisition) but it's fun to subvert expectations by being friendly when people expect you to brutally murder them. Also, is it still possible to romance Ashara as a DS Inquisitor? I know she's more of a light side character.

I gotta say that I really like her (female Inquisitors) and Andronikos together as well. He loves her no matter how good (or awfully bad) she is, lol. You can romance Ashara if you are DS Inquisitor, I did it on a lowbie throw away character but I didn't much like it, mostly because she will chastise you for saying awful things or doing bad stuff but then her romance ignores it all. I didn't like it at all. I would guess for a LS Inquisitor she is a perfect fit.

While Planetary Missions's 450 cxp wasn't as attractive as Veteran Uprisings or PVPs but I'm burning through my credit reserves simply through crafting. Refined Isotope Stabilizers certainly wasn't cheap and while I could do flashpoints easily but I need them in hundreds. The Heroic Dailies is messing with my usual schedule and I usually play around reset time so it can be a neverending heroics run especially on alts. Dulfy's guide weren't really helpful for this so I've compiled the necessary amount of heroics that you need to complete. Imperial | Republic | Voss x3
| Voss x3
| Correllia x3
| Corellia x3
| Taris x4
| Alderaan x4
| Alderaan x5
| Nar Shadda x4
| Nar Shadda x5
| Coruscant x4
| Belsavis x5
| Tatooine x5
| Dromund Kaas x5
| Belsavis x5
| Tatooine x6
| Taris x6
| Balmorra x6
| Hoth x6
| Hoth x7
| Balmorra x7 |
Obviously, the planet with the shortest requirement are some of the harder heroics to do solo. But I've netted around 100-200k just by finishing Voss x3. and there's a lot of champion and heroic level mobs within the instance that drive the loot/credit output significantly. I have three character with Nar Shadda's autocomplete.... not complaining one bit. Dailies | CZ-198 x4 | Section X x4 | Oricon x4 | Black Hole x5 | Yavin IV x5 | Ziost x5 |
Not all of my characters can access Oricon, Yavin IV and Ziost but compared to heroics, these dailies are easy and aren't as much different as before the level sync. I'd recommend doing CZ-198 as it usually took 10-15 minute to complete. They're useful for reputation grind as well.

Do PvP for isotopes. The daily mission reward gives 2.
In the end you don't even need all that many because crafted gear can't beat the purple/legendary gear from the crates. Except maybe for relics.

Do PvP for isotopes. The daily mission reward gives 2. In the end you don't even need all that many because crafted gear can't beat the purple/legendary gear from the crates. Except maybe for relics. That route is only possible if you have one or two characters who you could focus on and it still take forever to depend on crates and tiers. I have more than enough legacy gear so I'm relatively covered but the other five slots that need filling? If you have more than twenty level 70s that need an earpiece, two implants, two relics each... one relic required 6 Refined Isotope stabilizer and no one sell anything 230 MK-4s at least at 400k and any higher level gear for at least 5-10mill.... it really does drain the credit reserve pretty fast. I still need them to be geared enough just to be functional for even basic PVE. Previously, it was pretty fine to just fill them with crap 208 cdc pieces and bolster will take care of everything and I can still do this as preferred player as I merely purchase through crystals. Now as preferred player, I have to depend on crafting myself just to be geared. Altaholics and non-recurring subs like me get burned. At the moment, I'm just making do with what I can while I'm still a sub. I'm already irritable with the part where I have to be a sub throughout the year just to have the privilege of grinding a whole leveling system but whoever genius that come up with this need a secondary circumcision with a laser scalpel.
Anyway, I ended up using my KOTET boosted token to create another Operative who look like my Sniper. Leveling a stealther and doing story is always a breeze. Its been years since I've been to Makeb so instead of starting KOTFE, I went ahead doing ROTHC. Took me a couple hours or so. I've done it previously on a Sith Warrior and while the mission make more sense as an Imperial Agent but I felt underwhelmed considering I skipped all sidequest. But doing the earlier expansion again reminds me how the writers messed up the story by pandering to endgame players and how all the resources and effort into making endgame planets simply goes to waste that every one of them became ghost towns even before 4.0 hits. Makeb still look lovely tho...

Craft 228 then, that's good enough to get started. Most activities are bolstered anyway... you could do warzones in blue 220 drops and be competetive, same for flashpoints and operations. I have geared six of my chars to 230+, the other four already have a couple of pieces each and as soon as I find the time I'll gear them up, too. I still have ~40 isotopes left for that and can easily get more. If you can't participate in group content, then you could still run Esseles/Black Talon solo, that should give you 1-2 isotopes on each run, too. Or solo the first boss in Athiss, then reset and start over. I never had to buy anything from GTN, which is the main reason I'm still swimming in credits. Right now people go crazy about 240 barrels/hilts and mods... but you know that they don't make much of a difference if you're at 230 already? Unless you do something without bolster, like ... uh, Eternal Championship or Star Fortress ... or NiM ops?... I don't know, the difference in performance is minimal. I've ran Veteran Uprisings with tanks in 208 gear, where they had 25k less hp than me (as healer) and it didn't matter. Most of the game is so easy, you could probably do it in green drops. So unless you plan to play KotFE/ET in veteran difficulty, you'd be fine with crafted 228 gear, which you can replace with 230+ from the crates as you go. I assume you have all necessary crafters, so augments and augment kits should be cheap for you, too. It's really not that dire, you just have to be okay with not having the very best gear available. Btw... your operative is hot. Like, seriously hot. Got any romances planned for her?

I have all of 230 schematics that I need so I don't bother learning 228 stuff except all augments, of course. At the moment, I'm just hoarding mats. I might set a weekend where I just do tactical flashpoints for the isotopes. My subtime is ending in two weeks. I could grind my main to get higher level schematics but that would mean more time wasted on a single character. I only need 11241 cxp to get 1-10, so my focus was getting all 23 of my level 70s to rank 10. Which isn't really that bad since I get to unlock a lot of crates. I'm romancing Theron. Unfortunately, he get shafted if I let certain someone live. I'm starting KOTFE after tonight's maintenance so my next post will be filled with screenshots of her

DS Inquisitor is so fun though. Let the snark flow through you. Pah to you LS types, soiling the good Sith name. Don't even rate a "bah" I wouldn't mind getting an FP run on Shadowlands again if you, saberchic and whoever else are interested. It'd be one of the things that actually encourage me to login besides replaying my agent story. God knows there's not much else prompting me to. Also, is it still possible to romance Ashara as a DS Inquisitor? I know she's more of a light side character. Prepare to be nagged and blue balled. Not literally for the latter, as you do eventually bang. But to the eternal shame of the class modeled after Palpatine you never quite fully turn her to the dark side... But yes, romance is possible.

Ashara actually responds positively to a surprising number of more "DS" dialogue choices if you keep her with you while questing (meaning more in tone, not necessarily literally a choice that gives DS points). "Sup brah, so I herd u wanted to do this menial task for me in exchange for XP and phat loot, broski?"
"BOW DOWN BEFORE MY EXCELLENCE, WORM! HOW DARE YOU NOT SHOW ME THE PROPER RESPECT AS A LORD OF THE SITH? YOU WILL ADDRESS ME AS 'MY LORD' AND ONLY SPEAK WHEN SPOKEN TO, CRETIN."
*Ashara Zavros approves*

*Ashara Zavros approves*I just did Belsavis with Ashara as my companion and she constantly gave approval to me letting the insane murderes loose etc. She is abit more dark than she lets on. Unfornately i think the romance is balls boring, she is so naive and its so cliche. Then again she is only 20 years old.

There is a cutscenes that is fairly well animated, when she turns away, and the Inquisitir walks over and embraces her. It was one of more natural flowing and less embarrassingly bad cutscenes. Also, it is the only romance that does not really end in marriage dialogues, and leads easily into moving on to Cytherat on Makeb, and then whatever else is in other expansions. Because of her ultimately rejecting the PC, she was actually the least cliche for me. Or, maybe, I just liked everything about my Sorc. He probably was my most used character, and we went through pretty much every bit of content the game had to offer with him, save for GSF.

Ashara does sometimes give approval for dark decisions. I think it has to do with her thinking that Jedi and Sith both have it wrong. I feel like she is trying to find a middle ground on the parts she thinks each do right. I still find her romance to be incredibly boring. But I am a straight lady playing a male character so maybe I just didn't get attached to her because of that. But, I find Jack from Mass Effect to be one of the best romances for a male, and I really liked Elara in SWtOR. I haven't finished all the male romances so I'll get back to you on those

If I ever bother to bring my Inquisitor into KOTFE, he'll be ditching her for Lana.

My JK can't commit to anyone else aslong as there is just a tiny hope she'll come back. She is the only thing i liked about the JK story, rest was meh. People probably already shared their thoughts on Kotfe and Kotet in this thread, but i am curious to hear some opinions. So what do people think of them? Personally it feels less like an mmo while you're playing them, not sure if that is good or bad yet. Also the one size fits all story does not infact fit all. Having a hard time playing a non-force user through the story.
