I am gonna continue playing SWtOR. Probably lowbie stuff though.
Me and Jil tried the new uprisings last night. I don't like uprisings. At all. They are just run through as fast as you can. No strategy, no story. Just full on, full speed ahead. Not fun or interesting to me at all.
Galactic command is a giant pain in the ass. Since it's been out I have been able to get to level 26. I just don't have the time or energy required to get to higher levels. I don't pvp. I don't do ops. I run heroics and I will sometimes do flashpoints. So casual/solo players are left in the dust. Gearing is more convoluted than ever. And seems to be mostly a waste of time unless you do ops.
They seem to go from one extreme to another (full on hardcore or full on single player) and don't know how to get the balance right like it was in the beginning. *shrug*
I tried GW2 when it first came out, I hated it. The story was forgettable (in fact I don't even remember what it's about all these years later). And was no where near as fun as the original GW, imo. I didn't like that they did away with the tank/dps/healing roles.
But, as I said before, I'll keep leveling lowbies for fun and sometimes do some flashpoints/uprisings (long suffering sigh) and the like until they hopefully get their shit together.
Bring back our original companions SWtOR! I'd love to dump at least half the ones we have now.
Rant over...sorry.

I forgot to mention that the new gearing procedure is also ridiculous. I'm still logging in each day to complete my GSF daily so I can finish maxing out my pubside ships, but then I'll be done with it. I probably go back and play it for another month or two each time a new 'expansion' comes out but that's all the game is now, a once a year short single player story to playthrough.

I have never got to trying Guild Wars, but I played Blade and Soul and Revelation on-line. I'd recommend BnS for just a free single-player run through the story while you can stand it, if you like pretty landscapes in games and gratuitously smooth combat (well, I liked it). MMO elements in it are pretty sad. Revelation is terrible. I dunno, I liked SWTOR, but the other MMO, I don't think I want anything to do with them. Too much efforts for too little payback... and the community in SWTOR was really nice too, but in the other two games, I did not really like the folks who played it. Some parts of MMO sound really good, until you total the efforts it takes to get to the good parts doing the god awful boring crud. And, some things, I think they simply cannot make successful in practice, such as pvp and large battles. I think it's practically impossible to make it fun and engaging for the majority of players, while staying convenient, and avoiding the nastiness, imbalances and heartbreak. It's basically to hard to build a system where everyone always maintains at least 50% winning, and once it goes below that, it's the end of enjoyement. I have found the SWTOR community to be fairly average tbh, although 50% of that is based on pvp which brings out the worst in people. For me what makes an MMO interesting is having little activities to do each day that give some reward. Whilst there are a few single player games I love, once I've played them a few times I'm done, I can't go back and replay them anymore. I don't know about large pvp battles but it's certainly possible for some developers to make balanced pvp. Not BWA though.

been on the SWTOR.com forums (aka lurked ^^) lately and have to say/ask: is it really THAT BAD? is SWTOR almost dead? are all the long time subs unsubbing? reading through the threads there feels like doomsday is just around the corner I'll stay subbed (at least till ME:A hits)... still need to finish the last 2 class stories (I really like the Agent story), craft a little, trade a little, decorate a little, PvP a little, try to reach at least CR 10 with one toon (was lucky though: rank 7 on my JK, rank 8 on my JS and on my JK I already have 2 setbonus pieces...) ... that Glitch/bug I told you about in an earlier post: still there ... woulg like to know if you guys'n'gals can reproduce this bug as well: open the Galactic Command Interface (with a REP toon) and klick on the planetary missions, toggle/decline till Nar Shadaa pops up and tell me what happens ^^ (because for me the Nar Shadaa Mission is immediately completed and I get the command points...)

Not that there aren't plenty of legitimate criticisms to also be found there, but people have been shitposting about how SWTOR is either dying or is already dead for YEARS.

been on the SWTOR.com forums (aka lurked ^^) lately and have to say/ask: is it really THAT BAD? is SWTOR almost dead? are all the long time subs unsubbing? reading through the threads there feels like doomsday is just around the corner Those threads exist since the game launched. I would not call the game dead...yet. However, I play casually on several NA/EU servers since launch and I have to admit that the current server population is at one of the lowest points I have ever seen. On the populated servers (Harbinger, Red Eclipse) there are still 2 fleet instances (almost) regularly, but not so true for other servers. And it used to be 3 fleet instances minimum when SWTOR was at it's best. For the past few years the game lost alot of staff and developers and it looks like it operates on a skeleton crew. That is the reason the last two big updates were...rehashing old content. And the little new content you finish in less than 10 hours. The best thing in the whole game is still the 1-50 original story experience. KOTET is good, but not that good. Much better than KOTFE, which is not saying much. And the fact that the new story is so obviously tailored for the Jedi Knight leaves somewhat a bad taste. I had 2 subs running since game launch. I canceled one of them when 5.0 came live. Thinking of canceling the other too since I dislike Korean grinds and right now that is what SWTOR considers "exciting new content". Except its so old that even Everquest can tell you it was a bad idea in the previous century.

Yeah, the trouble is when a little bit of different things each day turns into doing a lot of the same thing each day, some of which you do not enjoy. SWTOR for a while was pretty neat for me, but those other games were way too boring in that respect. Which MMO has a more interesting pvp you think? I liked SWTOR objective-based very much. Huttball and capture the flag games the most. Did not like the arenas. With the larger battles, the OW just feels messy and pointless. Even In BnS, where it was really important, and they had objectives to capture, once the gearing gap got large and people started gaming the system, it became utterlly unrewarding and felt like a waste of time because I stopped getting the moonstones. As for community, in BnS folks were snappy and in a rush, and the only thing that they talked about in a game was gearing up and avatars features. In revelation it was just crude, but I did not do much there, I just disliked the game so much I left after a week. Eh, well....

I can't speak for many other games. GW1 had exceptionally well balanced pvp that was constantly refined, SWTOR has ridiculously imbalanced pvp where extreme class balance changes are made once a year and then ignored completely. 4.0 wasn't so bad but 5.0 is so bad it's not funny. And they just made it worse with 5.1 by changing the one thing that they didn't screw up in 5.0, the bolster, so that people in the top gear now DO have a significant advantage over people not in the top gear, but you have to grind literally hundreds if not over 1000 warzones to get that gear, and of course if you are starting out against player who are already in top gear then you get less grind-tokens towards getting that gear per match. They made part of the grind legacy wide but not the other part of the excessively convoluted gearing procedure.
What really bothers me though is the BS that comes out of Eric Musco. They literally make announcements about making announcements about potentially making an announcement about some kind of imaginary new content that they'll be thinking about next year. I am a tad cynical sometimes I admit, but everything I've seen in the past 6 months has been blatant misdirection and intentional avoidance of addressing player concerns. The biower logic is infuriating at times lol.

Yeah it's a shitshow over there on more than one level. I'm replaying all class stories (the only part worth it tbh) and recording them so I never have to go back. I enjoy healing flashpoints as well but not enough to put up with this crap. I haven't set foot in an HM FP whereas in 4.0 I used to do them regularly. Even in tacticals I feel the sting of not even having this level's basic starter gear. I used to take pride in healing well enough so the tac heal stations are never needed/used unless there's lag or something. Now I almost need them in some cases to keep us going. I refuse to get on their damn hamster wheel grind so I suppose this is the end of the line.
As for the forums, there's a reason I made this thread here. The doom and gloom over there I can deal with but the self-righteous entitlement of some people on there where if you aren't shelling out the money, smiling and loving everything BioWare throws at you, you must be the worst piece of shit in the universe. So you can imagine how much of a fuck up this RNG grind really is if no one's defending it.

Dekibra That bug has existed since 5.0 went live. Since planetary missions are random (and whose brilliant idea was that?) you can't be held responsible for getting 450 cxp without having to work for it.

They made part of the grind legacy wide but not the other part of the excessively convoluted gearing procedure. PvP gear was like that actually when I started to PvP. The bolster was not a full bolster (but it changed to favor me literally as I was starting). The PvP sets took forever though. I still remember those names... Brutalizer and Dark Reaver (they were not the first sets, heh). I actually ground out that Dark Reaver set about two weeks before they have announced the relaxation of the acquisition rules, because they stats showed that only some ridiculously low % of the player base had the full tier 2 PvP set. It took me a few months, swapping my two mirror characters to max out the Daily Comms rewards... oh, and on my leveling character, OMG, I had to buy and sell those PvP weapons to not hit the cap of the comms they had back then, to trick the binding timer that bound the weapons in 2 hours of play time. I thought it was a great change, when they removed the comm cap, and reduced the costs of the sets dramatically. So sad they reverted it, to create the sense of 'earning' again. What I hear though, it's just one set now & no Expertise, though you probably still customize the set in favor of burst over sustained... so still need to sets prob. The balance was getting progressively worse as we were going from level 50 cap to 55 and then to 60, and 65. I blame the high level abilities for it. :) Well, as I said, I am really glad I played tons & tons of it when I did, as I made good friends and had tons of fun :) The PvP folks were a fabulous crowd.

Been having fun on my lowbie smuggler. Haven't touched my lvl 70's unless it's to do auctions. Every once in a while I can make myself do heroics, but I just don't have the time to do Fp/Ops/anything that requires grouping anymore. 19mo old makes sure of that. Even when she's sleeping and I think I'm in the clear she'll wake up yelling. Truly though, it's not like I really want to do them anyways. Been there done that for the last how many years? I'm curious as to what group content they plan on putting out this year. It's not the uprisings is it?

I'm curious as to what group content they plan on putting out this year. It's not the uprisings is it? Errr, wish I could say “it isn’t”… But if we have to sum up Bioware’s behavior in the past couple of months: “5.0 is coming. Uprisings are cool. Uprisings are new. Uprisings rock! You can play any way you want and earn CXP. Btw, Uprisings give CXP.” “Ok, 5.0 launched. Uprisings are here! And we said you can do anything you want to earn CXP…but not that (nerf) and not that (nerf). P.S. Uprisings are awesome!!!” "We heard your complaints about CXP. So we buff the CXP gains for Uprisings." “5.0 is over a month old. FFS, get the memo and go play the ******* Uprisings, you little *****!”

They had a developer live stream today on Twitch and it was pretty decent. Lots of new stuff coming in April, including new story content actually. A few returning companions aswell. I'll probably just resub then, after i am tired of Mass Effect Andromeda.

So, I did watch the stream. Late, but I did see it. Seems like they are actually trying to put out something for everyone this time. New op, new daily hub, new story, master mode for uprisings, 2 returning companions, possible cxp events (like the 12x xp gain events for leveling). Maybe I got sad too soon. I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic for now. Returning companions under tag for those who don't want to know. Yay for Quinn and Elara!

I'm a ho hum for those two. One I can't abide, the other because my toon is one of the least played char.
New story. What story? General or class story? I'd prolly return for the story but I might as well let them accumulate more of them before I return. The rest interest me not at all.

Well, you know me. Story and companions are my #1 priority. I like all the original companions(EXCEPT SKADGE). Some more than others, but all of them. General story tied into Iokath and republic/empire stuff. ETA: Here is the channel link if anyone wants to watch the stream for themselves: SWtOR

Hmmm... I am pleased about the returning comps, though the 2 listed were pretty far down on my want-back list. Story is always good. (Except when it isn't...ha) I'd love to see them do some new events. We've had the same events with the same rewards for years. Come ON already. Give me something totally mindless to waste my time on for pixel loots!! Really. I like fun events.

I'd like a fun event too, but my bet is it's just a period of time where we will earn more cxp for doing the same stuff we've been doing

I noticed they partially restored the achievements for the DvL event, only the the main achievement for completing each tier though, not all the components you had to work hard for to complete each tier.
As you may expect I'm not thrilled by the latest announcement. If it turns out to be another SoR, then I'll eat my words and praise them. But I have zero concern about having to do that. It's clear that EA just isn't investing in the game any more. The only goal is to milk as much revenue out of it with as little investment as possible.

Well if/when more story happens I'll look forward to seeing what they come up as justification for the Grand Lord High Eternal Emperor to still be out collecting 10 bear asses. I tell ya: Oh and companions. GIVE. ME. KIRA. And also Nadia, Risha, and Mako. And if you can spare him, Theran Cedrax.

I'm gonna disagree with not investing in the game since their most recent announcement includes content for everyone. But, as I said, until I see it/play I'll only be cautiously optimisitic

But, as I said, until I see it/play I'll only be cautiously optimisitic I know I'm being negative, but to me it's like they are trying to check a box for all the things people are unsubscribing over (except pvp balance apparently). The fact that they need an entire year to produce an Op to me shows that they only have a skeleton team. I feel like there is literally on 2 or 3 people working on the game. Ok maybe 5, but still.

I don't know about the size of the team, I feel like they are just drawing it out to keep people subbed. And honestly, they're a company and they need to make money to keep making the game, so I expect them to want people to stay subbed.
I don't always agree with how they try to get money from us, but I understand why they do it.
Anyways, I think the game is going to see improvements and I think they are finally seeing that they need to give new stuff in all things that people play for to keep people interested in the game (Ops, flashpoints, story, companions, etc). At least I hope that's what they're seeing.
