I don't mind though. I've been subbed almost the entire 5 yrs the game has been out, not like there is any other mmo I want to play.

I just don't understand why didn't stick to some simple formula of 1 new Op, 1 new wz, and 1 new explorable planet with story each year. To me that just seems like a pretty straightforward way to go about it, providing the basic things most people want from the game. And just put a little bit of effort into balancing pvp. Maybe even look at GSF occasionally.

But instead they have gone down this path of solo story and major RNG grind.

Lame. And obviously they still exist. Until this RNG bullshit the number 1 complaint over there was dead servers/lack of cross-server/mergers

I am going to confess my sins. The past few weeks made me do something I haven’t done since before 2.0 went live. I started exploiting the crap out of PvP bolster. The key words being “DvL gear set”.

Last time I did something like that was back in the first 2 years of the game when most people in lowbies were bolstered to 10 or 11k HP max and I was entering with anything between 14 and 20k HP, plus the other stat increases. On my Merc I could 2-shot certain classes. On my Shadow I was unstoppable, especially in Huttball. My Watchman Sentinel could stay alone in permanent combat on a node for minutes, fighting 4 people that kept coming back from spawn to rejoin the fight and get killed again. However back then I had somewhat of a flimsy excuse – I liked gearing my toons to the teeth. Made myself crafted purple mods that were updated regularly and augmented my gear since level 10. It was a hefty investment too since I calculated that I burn about 4-5 million credits (which was a lot of money back then) per alt until level 50. The resulting side effect was that bolster just skyrocketed my stats in warzones.

Now I have no excuse at all other than “others do it too”. In the past week I kept noticing people with 130-150k HP in warzones but thought “meh, they worked their behinds to reach Tier 3 gear, good for them”. Until I actually inspected few suspects and noticed this is not the case. And after losing a very close contest for a node in Odessen WZ against a player that kept landing 25-30k hits and survived barely with his last 3k HP (from total of 130k+) I said enough is enough and gave myself an upgrade too. And then few hours later had an Arena against the same player and totally melted the son of a… cough, I mean the gentleman. He was an average player at best and I am not a PvP master, but I have been around and don’t have too much trouble defeating average players. The gear difference made us pretty equal with a slight advantage to him. Then at even gear level he was no challenge at all.

The good question here though should be – how Bioware expects players that just reach lvl 70 to compete against people who have Tier 2 or Tier 3 gear? Because I can tell you that my current gear exploit seems to be slightly worse than Tier 3 and I am destroying people with 230-234 gear rating. With my Guardian no less. On my Merc it’s such a slaughter that even I was a bit horrified. Doing almost certain 80k+ damage in my first 4 GCDs is not what people bolstered to 110k like to experience. I haven’t tried my Sniper yet, but I fear it will be even worse. In the long run this is a PvP killer. When there was a similar situation with the Recruit gear you were able to replace it with something viable in 2 days tops. Now you can grind for months and still be unlucky, undergeared and farmed the whole time. Skill means nothing. The gap is far too big. Patch 5.1 wasn’t even a band-aid for gearing and we need to wait till April for some more probable but still unspecified band-aids? Ok, I stop here because the whole point was about my sins, not Bioware’s

concerning PvP Bolster...
can someone explain to me, what that Bolster does/does not do as of 5.1?

what happens, when I enter a warzone/death match (unranked mind you) with crafted 228/230 Gear?
What happens with players with 242 Set-Gear?
Will I be bolstered UP? will they be bolstered DOWN?

My understanding is that it bolsters up to 232, and if you have better gear than that then you have better stats - you don't get bolstered down. Hence people in 242 have an advantage over people in 232 or less gear.

The reason they made it this way instead of sticking with the generic bolster that affected everyone equally was that gear didn't matter when everyone was put on an even pegging, so people didn't care about buying CXP boosts to get more CXP to try and speed up the gearing process.

I am seriously tempted to log in to put on my DvL gear and troll some pvp matches lol. Gotta get away from this thread - it's dragging me back into the game!
