Which is kind of a problem with companions in general now... If a character can be permanently removed/killed off, they are kinda doomed to never play an important role in any future storyarc. So it's unlikely that many resources will be put into them. so the entire story have to be jeopardized because of DS players with masochistic traits? The problem here wasn't about companions being optional, it was the lack of larger consequence of what it will affect the future story without these characters. So far, there's placeholders like Tora, Hylo, KOTET's Theron and Lana but with Umbara, even placeholder status itself can be jeopardized.
Also you forgot that Bioware write for the narrative of LS Jedi Knight. Not just DS players.

I guess I should mention I met Jamie Elman (in an unrelated context) who does the voice for Theran Cedrax. I asked him about TOR and he said he hadn't heard anything (but he would be willing to return if they asked). So, very little hope for our favorite hologram-loving genius making a comeback anytime soon. They are only now starting to work on the remaining companions return. Seventeen are still missing/unreturned (18 if you count Vic). So maybe they just haven't gotten around to Tharan yet *crosses fingers* Also...cxp bug on those certain planet heroics is sticking around a few more weeks. HAVE AT IT! link Hey all, Recently, we have had more maintenances than normal. This was compounded by our update issues last Thursday which led to over 10 hours of maintenance. Thursday’s issue along with the extra downtime have impacted all of our playtime, and they especially are bothersome when you consider how much XP and CXP you lost from the Double XP/CXP event was running along with the over the top CXP for Daily Areas. So, to make sure your characters can take advantage from both, here’s what we going to do: Since the Double XP/CXP event ended on Tuesday, we’ve decided to bring it back earlier than planned. That is, we had scheduled to make it available in December around the holidays, but it’ll return with the launch of Game Update 5.5. That will give you another full week to benefit from the event. The Daily Area bug is also going to stick around for a few weeks. As Eric mentioned in another post, our plan was to fix it next week in another patch, but we’ve decided to hold off any changes until Game Update 5.5. I’m personally leveraging this as a means of playing my other toons and raising their Command Rank to 300. Honestly, it’s been a lot of fun seeing so many other players taking advantage, too. It is very clear everyone is really enjoying higher rewards on the older Daily Missions. As a result, we are exploring some options such as increasing CXP values above their base rewards, making rotating daily objectives worth high bonuses, and more. We will let you know where we land on these discussions, but one thing is for certain, higher CXP values are very motivational. Again, I want to thank you all for your patience the past couple of weeks. Keith--- Yessssssssss! It was really nice seeing some life back in those areas again. It was even nicer seeing my cxp add up so quick.

The dailies are now 2k CXP, so its still a grind but not as much. Because of the nature of it being a daily, the only requirement was players allocating time for them daily like grinding a lot of credits via heroics. So its not like Bioware are losing anything.
The new Twi'lek armor set somehow caught my eyes. I love the headpiece

Its relatively stable now since Heroics no longer reward x4 bonus credits. Of course, average rare armor pieces still goes from 1-20 mills and hypercrates now hover around 50million. Its still bad for Preferred Status's 350k limit. Cartel Market occasionally release direct sell items. Last weekend they sell some gold packs.

For that matter, has Aric, Kaliyo, Torian, or Vette had any real content following their possible deaths? Heck when's the last time we saw Koth for that matter?

Let me put it this way: When has any companion recruited via Alliance Alert had any story content?
For that matter, has Aric, Kaliyo, Torian, or Vette had any real content following their possible deaths? Heck when's the last time we saw Koth for that matter? The writers have to cut out excess characters from the 40 companions of all class stories. Not to mention its very expensive, SWTOR's expansion certainly doesn't have the 200 million budget that the base stories had. 19 of that 40 are love interests and only 6 of that love interest has returned. And there's already datamined dialogues of reunion with Vector coming up. There are companions exclusive chapter; Kaliyo's chapter 9, Aric's chapter 10, Vette's chapter 13 and Torian's chapter 14. You get Malavai and Elara from Iokath. Not to mention all their content in the class stories and their companion loyalty missions including existing romances that was still more superior than any new romances. But people don't like a lot of these KOTFE's companion chapters because they're just plain fillers. They're meant to be thematic related to each main classes but they don't advance the larger plot until the Virmire like situation between Torian and Vette. KOTET was shortened because people are vocal about the monthly chapters in 2016, but I like it since it put a closure to Vitiate/Valkorion's arc - which remain open since 2008's KOTOR. Even if they're less involved, all of the LIs still have their own scenes in KOTETs even if briefly. Funnily, despite being disliked, Koth still manage to have more kiss scenes than any of the returning companions including Theron or Lana. Arcann's voice actor already confirmed there will be a romance... as an Arcann's fan, today have been an absolute joy but I understand that many would look at this and felt enraged especially when there are no news to fan-favourites like Jaesa, Kira and Mako. But after Mass Effect Andromeda, I took this as a sign that there's still more to come to SWTOR in matter of weeks or months.

I doubt Vic will ever return, his VA died. To be fair, he already returned, just not as a companion. And they changed the Sith Emperor's VA for KotFE and nobody really made a big thing about it (in fact, I feel like there have been a couple other surreptitious switches that I can't recall specifically offhand, but I could swear I've noted before it was more than just those two). So in general, I feel like the VA excuse, which I've seen frequently used for not getting Jaesa back too, doesn't hold a ton of water. If the writers want 'em back, we'll get 'em back. I'm not exactly holding my breath, though, more just 'cause I don't think they're as much a priority as I'd like 'em to be. Yeah, they really dropped the ball with the original companions and I fear that people who enjoyed them are going to be disappointed with the remaining returns if done like Quinn and Elara. P.S If/when Tharan returns I hope he is Holiday'less

Yeah, they really dropped the ball with the original companions and I fear that people who enjoyed them are going to be disappointed with the remaining returns if done like Quinn and Elara. Quinn and Elara ticked me off more because of how they represented the writing in general, moreso than the specific level of re-introduction they got (which honestly, wasn't all that much more than anyone else did). But Quinn (a)resulted in Warriors getting a second "freebie" where most players could make the choices they wanted and still get both companions (similar to Broonmark's alert), and (b)put waaaaayyyyy too much emphasis on his Corellia betrayal. "Hey Quinn, I realize it's been years since then, but I'm randomly going to murder you for that now." It doesn't surprise me being that the "choices matter" motto has basically been adapted to "you can kill all your companions at some point or another", but it still was clearly written by someone who knew it could happen in beta and that it was taken away, but never bothered to actually read/play that sequence. And Elara was just a mess. I do appreciate that they're trying to make companions react accurately to player choices, but foisting it in without so much as a warning is more than a bit annoying in a game where you can't undo old decisions. Not to mention that it just wasn't an appropriate time to bring her back. She should have been back with Jorgan, but even if she hadn't given the role she plays in the story, Iresso would've been a much more appropriate choice, and not such blatant bias on the part of the writer to bring all his pet favorites from the Trooper campaign back while other classes still only get one or two.

I was actually hoping the SCORPIO arc would end with a SCORPIO/Holiday catfight I legitimately laughed at this. I wouldn't mind Holiday returning if those two could fight. OR if my consular could shut her off...for good!

I agree with a lot of this! I seriously dislike that they gave the option to kill off every companion. Though I kind of expected it with Malavai since people have been screaming about for 5ever. And my consular would have jumped for joy had Iresso returned......as she's only had Qyzen for waaaaay too long. I know some people enjoy the new companions, and some are okay, but I really, really, really miss my original companions and would've much preferred to just had them returned through story as promised instead of them holding them for ransom for much too long, imo. It seems now they're just going to throw them at us a couple/three at a time with little to no story and call it good. As for Elara, I knew she would never agree to go with a trooper who chose the Empire after she defected. It is a big part of her character arc, afterall. But I didn't know there was a way to recruit them both? (Quinn/Dorne). Is there?

If you play a Warrior and you side with the Republic, then when the Alliance captures him at the end, you can offer to free him if he will drop his allegiance to the Empire and continue to serve you instead, and he will accept your offer.

I suppose I'd be madder about how slow it's been for characters to return if they actually mattered in any of the story content. As it is, only Theron and Lana matter anymore.

As for Elara, I knew she would never agree to go with a trooper who chose the Empire after she defected. It is a big part of her character arc, afterall. But I didn't know there was a way to recruit them both? (Quinn/Dorne). Is there? Only for Warriors (hence my kinda-beef), but yeah. If you play a Warrior and you side with the Republic, then when the Alliance captures him at the end, you can offer to free him if he will drop his allegiance to the Empire and continue to serve you instead, and he will accept your offer. AH! My Wrath sided with the Empire. I guess that's why I didn't know. Thanks!

Have they given ANY indication of when more companions will return? All I've seen lately is datamined info. Even if it turns out to be stuff we'll see in the game, we have no idea of if we can expect them anytime soon.
I was horribly disappointed in the return for a romanced Quinn, even beyond the ridiculous Iokath storyline.

If you care to know: Things were added in 5.4 for Vector (conversation - looks like returning to Agents only) and mentions of stuff found for Andronikos/Ashara and Corso/Risha. I also noticed the other day that Iressos' hologram self in my Consulars room had different armor on than he'd been wearing until now. I'm HOPING that means they are working on returning him soon as well!
