My theory is that I can start an expedition set to private, let the game start loading but don't even wait for it to hang before closing the application. Then I will try to RESUME and I am hoping it will maybe let me into the mission. I am probably just giving myself false hope but it's worth a shot.
Ok so not definitive but this worked first try for me. That also happened to be the ONLY time I have successfully launched a PRIVATE expedition.
Here is exactly what I did.
1. Set expedition to PRIVATE. 2. Confirm you want to keep it PRIVATE when the game tries to coerce you into playing in a squad. 3. Watch progress bar.
4. When it reaches that 95% mark just close the application. Do not sit and wait for it. I believe sitting there waiting for it will cause it to 'time out'. 5. Launch game again. Hopefully it says you have an expedition underway and would you like to resume. Resume.
6. Play expedition solo.
Going to try this for the third mission after dinner. Will report if I am successful or not.

ANTHEM VIP Demo | End of Day 2 UpdateWe are continuing to track current issues for the Anthem VIP Demo and the team is working very diligently to quickly resolve them. Here's the current list of the most reported and known issues affecting some players: Continued: 1. An infinite loading screen when launching the game or entering an expedition. 2. Inability to get past the Anthem title screen. (potential workaround below) Resolved or Mitigated: 1. Some Xbox One players are unable to access the Anthem VIP demo. - Resolved 2. Rubber-banding during free roam and/or missions. - Mitigated (details below) 3. Second javelin not unlocking when reaching level 12. - Resolved (details below) 4. Inability to access their Anthem VIP demo friends codes. - Resolved (details below) Potential User Workarounds & Details: 1. Stuck at Anthem Title Screen: One reason for getting this message is if you did not redeem your code on the correct EA account. If that happened, please follow the steps on this page. 2. Rubber Banding: We identified problems in our infrastructure that were causing some rubber banding. We have already made changes to our back end to improve the performance and will continue to do so over the weekend. 3. Unreceived Javelin Unlock Tokens: Most players should see their unlock token in the Forge now. Please let us know if you aren't. Friend Code Redemption Workaround: 1. Clear your internet browser cache, OR go into incognito/private version of your browser. 2. Try to load the page again. For those hitting an *infinite loading screen when you get to about 95%, we do have a possible workaround, depending on your situation. 1. Close the game client. 2. Relaunch the game client. 3. If it asks to rejoin the expedition press the indicated button to connect. We will continue to update this thread with new information as it becomes available. Thank you for your patience.

John Epler @eplerjcNo idea how well this works - but saw this as a suggestion for improving the KBAM flight controls. Disclaimer: I haven't tried this myself.

Ben Irving @benirvo My suggestion for flight and swim on PC is to turn everything up to 80% in settings. Then use smother movements on your mouse (as opposed to snap aiming when shooting).

So BW has "Head of Live Service" and his name is Chad, this is pure gold lol. I don't think it's unwise to split out the responsibility for 'live services' stuff from the gameplay and design. I'm sure the Lead Producers are supportive of each other, but there a sense in which it allows Mark, Jon, Mike and Ben go 'don't look at us', once you can play the game, it's good. I can imagine the conversation with Casey: 'who's writing the humble pie blog post then?'

Huge swathe of the development house can move on to other projects while the Live Team keeps things running, and tweaks balance, builds patches etc for the game.
Live Team tends to get to know the game really well also and generally are the go to guys and gals for really fixing the game.

Outside of that 95% glitch and a cutscene not loading, the game ran sooth for me ultimately.
Got a good feel of the controls, they are tight and take some time to get used to but really add fluidity to the combat and flying portions.
I kind of liked the little vignettes we got with random npcs in tarsis. Not the strongest character development but it's nice to talk to inoccuous npcs like amal and lucky jak. Bioware seems to be going for a casual interaction style with them, they don't contribute to plot like matthias but they contribute to narrative of the experience.
I'm already more invested than I was in destiny as well. Hopefully the slice here is just the tip of the iceburg.

No idea what the issue was, but when I start it from the gaming SSD - infinite screens. Windows SSD - all fine and dandy. Well...shit...
Just FYI for anyone who has the issue to maybe try to see if it works. You don't need to download the demo again, just close Origin, copy-paste the demo folder, start origin, change the Origin download folder to the new one where the demo is and click download the demo in your Origin library. It will just do a file checkup for a minute or so and won't download anything.

As the Anthem VIP Demo strain and technical issues are addressed, we could use one version of the truth we can follow (which is why I'm folding in other running threads on the subject). The EA Answers website is also straining. I'd welcome useful contributions about server status, progress on getting into the game so that people can read and follow in one thread where we're at, please. What is known:- People are struggling to get in at once and servers are crashing. 'Max capacity means a crashed server has a capacity of zero - they do have servers.
- The EA Answers website is melting, they know there is an issue, maybe don't add another of the same posts there just yet.
- EA/Origin servers generally also dominoing over.
- A few people are getting in (yay): bsn.boards.net/thread/16923/vip-demo-jan-live-post
- Casey Hudson reporting they have identified the issue (not capacity) and teams are on it.
End of Day 1 update from EA: UPDATE at 9:37pm Pacific: We’ve made changes that should improve Xbox connectivity for the VIP Demo. Anyone still seeing problems is recommended to restart their console.
We’re currently tracking issues for the Anthem VIP Demo and the team is working very diligently to quickly resolve them. Here's the current list of the most reported and known issues affecting some players.
- Infinite loading screens when launching the game or entering an expedition.
- Unable to get past the Anthem title screen.
- Some Xbox One players are unable to access the Anthem VIP demo.
- Some players are unable to access their Anthem VIP demo friends codes.
Please tag me if there's a key thing that needs adding. SofaJockey
If your contribution is more along the lines of 'it's crashed again, this sucks, lol'That's perfectly fine, but could you please take those to the "Today in Anthem" thread: bsn.boards.net/thread/16859/vip-demo-jan-25-todayAnd I will gently move such posts over there, if you're wondering, so that people can read status information here. Thank you. Do any major game companies have a test platform or QA section anymore, because if this demo was any indication, they do not. This should have been called a beta but I realize we're too close to the final release for that (note that for future reference Bethesda). With all the loading, launching and game play issues I don't think Bioware can address all of them before 22 Feb. If they can that'll be great, but I don't see it happening. I tried to play for a couple hours last night but it was mainly frustration over loading screens that would freeze, getting kicked to the lobby area during missions, AI just running in circles and not really fighting me, AI being too bullet spongy and objections that weren't really clear on what to do. For example, the mission where you were lead to a circular area with 4 screens where you could change the graphic. The 4 of us ran around changing them to the same color, nothing happened, all to a different color, nothing happened. We finally gave up and for me the game just kicked me to the lobby again. I'm not holding my breath.

I'm curious...does anyone in this thread actually know what it takes to scale servers to account for thousands upon thousands of people trying to enter beyond "they should have known"? It's the same thing I've asked in multiple threads here. It seems no game companies have test platforms or QA teams anymore. And I don't want to hear they couldn't test for the volume of people trying to log in. That's bullsh*t as there are simulators that can do that very well. I tried to play on Xbox One X and initially couldn't even get past pressing "A" at the initial screen. I eventually got to gender select screen and then the game froze. It's been a very cold experience the last 2 days with all the freezing!! The worst part is this was called a demo. With less than a month to go before the release things aren't looking too good for Anthem.

With less than a month to go before the release things aren't looking too good for Anthem. These are network issues, surely, the underlying game seems good (and will be 10 weeks more polished at launch).

Now I can't play in Freeplay because I get a constant "Error retrieving anthem live service data". I can join Missions and the Stronghold but not the Freeplay. Just when I managed to fix one thing, another breaks.

With less than a month to go before the release things aren't looking too good for Anthem. I replied here: bsn.boards.net/post/1210189/threadI'm sure they have QA and they did testing. Even the closed Alpha counts as a test. Don't underestimate what a problem the sheer number of people can be. While it's true that there are tools and entire businesses that can help simulate testing mobile apps at scale, it's not so easy with AAA cross-platform games. EA would have to build all the infrastructure themselves, which they certainly have the money to do, and for all we know, they did. But it's not just the sheer numbers. We already have some clues from the Live Services report: variability in home network and ISP connectivity was more than expected. No matter how much you test, until you test at scale, with the full variety of wonky setups that real people have in the real world, you're not going to catch these kinds of problems. Then on top of all that was the addition of the VIP entitlement (access codes, friends passes) that was new relative to the closed Alpha. That stuff had never been tested at scale, so it's no surprise, really, that there was a meltdown. If you want to be mad at EA/Bioware for something, you can be mad about that. Personally, since they fixed that part relatively quickly, I wouldn't worry about it. The 95% loading screen hang, which is a game client problem, is much more troubling. That might not get fixed any time soon. If it's not fixed by the Feb 1 demo, I wouldn't be surprised if they pushed out the release date. I believe they had every intention of the VIP demo being a polished representation of the game, with a list of known but tolerable bugs. It didn't work out that way, and in hindsight, they should not have overloaded the very first go-live at scale as a big PR event. While the game itself may be demo quality, the live services clearly needed a public end-to-end beta test.

If they can't fix the infinite loading screen ... well I don't have any words that aren't just venomous. If it isn't fixed by the open demo I am going to be doing whatever I possibly can to have my pre-order cancelled. I cannot justify giving them money for something that barely functions.

John Epler @eplerjcNo idea how well this works - but saw this as a suggestion for improving the KBAM flight controls. Disclaimer: I haven't tried this myself. This appears to have worked. I had to reset my gaming mouse software back to (my) defaults afterwards, since the mouse inputs were too sluggish (I'd modified them a bunch trying to get to a useable condition for swimming … plus a bit for flying). After adjusting my mouse software, went back out … flying was just about perfect and swimming was way, way, way better than it had been. I would say problem solved … for me, my mouse and mouse software (Logitech).
Also, throughout, I've been tweaking the key bindings and alignment with my mouse buttons. I think I'm finally there, too. Everything works … well. Not just OK, but very, very well.
I think that once again, the initial settings reflect a lack of testing of the game with m+kb, but with the suggested settings above, plus some redoing of bindings and mouse buttons, you can get there. I ran both the Storm and the Ranger on Hard difficulty, flew a bunch, went underwater a bunch, hovered, evaded, dashed, killed some Scar and Dominion. It works fine.

Chad Robertson @crobertson_atx As a further thank you, all four javelins are available now in the Forge for players who have played in this weekend’s demo. Won’t get a chance to jump in? They will be waiting for VIP participants next weekend!
Log out and back in to see them if you’re in game.

If they can't fix the infinite loading screen ... well I don't have any words that aren't just venomous. If it isn't fixed by the open demo I am going to be doing whatever I possibly can to have my pre-order cancelled. I cannot justify giving them money for something that barely functions. We know it requires a patch, but I can't see how they won't be all over this ahead of next Friday. I really hope so. I am trying to not rage and still be stoked for everyone having fun. And even if I cancel my pre-order (hard to do with North America PS4, technically you cannot) I would still want to get the game later after it is fixed.
This has really taken the helium out of my hype balloon.
I'm really glad people are having fun. I wish I was one of them.

Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah This is early in repro but it should be harmless at worst. We have gotten some people in on PC by setting your clock to auto correct. ... I know that sounds stupid But there you go. It worked
