Why does this forum software insert divs all over the goddamned place? They do nothing, as far as I can tell, and somehow they are inserted constantly on quoted posts. This is a bbcode issue I believe; something with how the quote function is written is borkedy bork borked. Please enlighten me. I have a great example thread for you: bsn.boards.net/thread/16728/unpopular-opinion-believe-interesting-stuff?page=3

I suspect it has to do with the WYSIWYG editor more than anything, since that also seems to be the culprit when it comes to weird font things, and copy/paste nonsense that brings extra/extraneous code bits - I don't have any examples off hand, but I know I've seen replies where there's like... malformed text all jammed over on the left-side of the reply. That's a great example page though, so that gives me something to look at. I'll see what I can find out.

This is sure to emit at least one groan and/or utterance for the 'mobile' part, but only because I can't edit/fix that part of the theme Actually, I suspect the rogue DIVs are created by some javascript that I found (in the headers), but I don't think it will help much, since it will take more people to poke at it, and I don't even know if it runs in the mobile mode for the site. I'm going to disable it, and see what happens

Just a little more info for the troubleshooting.
I have the same problem regularly as well and I am using the "Prime Theme" with Chrome on a desktop PC. If I notice the problem in something I am quoting in the future I will reply to this thread.

I did comment out some javascript in the headers, thinking it COULD be that, but the best way to find out is to have lots of people reporting in. Thanks for keeping an eye out, eventually we'll track down the cause, I hope.

Using the blue theme, the extra divs inserted on every quote, spoiler, and similar seem to have went away since I last weekend or so! But now, toggling between preview and bbcode view does insert extra spaces each time...

It's not just "div," there's another little BB code snippet (I think it starts with "A") that I see when quoting, as well. I don't think once I "post" the quote that I still see them. They seem to "hide" themselves as normal for me even if I don't delete them during the quoting process (which I often do.) I'll keep an eye out and test it deliberately next time I quote someone to be sure whether it's "rehiding" itself or not.

KrrKs Qui-Gon GlenN7 Jeremiah12LGeek SanunesSorry to ping you all, but if you all can keep an eye out/test/respond I'd appreciate it. I don't think it's theme related, I'm pretty sure it's a plugin at this point... but I don't know which one. It's not the javascript that I removed from the headers, as it's happened even after removing that. I'm thinking it's a plugin that does something with the reply box, the first one that comes to mind is an extension that's supposed to make it easier to highlight text and then it'll show up in a quote/reply - I'd like to try turning that off (Quote Selections Version 1.1.0), but I don't want to do that on every theme - so for now, that plugin is disabled in three of the themes: <LAB> <<EXPERIMENTAL>> <<<Mobile Test>>> I'd steer away from Mobile Test, it's ugly, just experimenting with text sizing to make it easier to read on mobile, but still using the 'desktop' interface instead of the ProBoards Mobile theme. <<Experimental>> is most like the DARK theme, except with some transparency, and a video background (which you can pause/disable) <LAB> is Yummy's playground, there are a few things in there that don't exist on the rest of the forum, so I'm not sure if it's a good test for this or not.

Wow, what the heck is all that crap. Indeed, I don't know WHAT that might be, but looking up "MoatPxIOPT0_89318643"... EDIT: And I've done some quick research, and it might be the fault of ADVERTISEMENTS?!?! Great. Popups on mobile, and now random Iframe crap. support.proboards.com/thread/645308/iframe-elements-appearing-reply-textProBoards suggests the following to try to get more info: I think there's one thing the affected users can do to help narrow it down in the meantime, assuming the iframe tag gets added before they submit the post. Feel free to relay this: Before submitting your completed post when creating or replying to a thread switch back and forth between the Preview and BBCode tabs of the posting page at least 2 times. If you end up in the Preview tab after doing this open the BBCode tab once more. If you're on the mobile view this won't apply to you as you only have a BBCode editor. Check the entire post for any iframe tags (usually starting with <iframe) or press Ctrl+F and type iframe into the search window that appears to jump directly to any mentions of it on the page. Assuming you find an iframe tag within your post I'd like you to use the Report Ad link at the very bottom of the page and submit reports for all three ads on the current page with the reporting reason being something to do with the iframe issue (just so we can identify that the reports came from the users mentioned to us). So, to reiterate: 1) before hitting submit, check your post 2) if you see some mess like that in your text on the BBCode tab, report all the advertisements and mention "possible iframe issue" 3) wait for ProBoards 4) “There’s always a bigger fish.”

It's a bit of s time warp. Here's the one I originally snapped yesterday: My recollection is that everything looked normal when I submitted it, and that I didn't manually delete any of the code. I also took a snapshot of the quote in this post: Edit: Looking again, I mistook the intentionally included code for the issue, but I believe that quote is how one would actually expect it to look. I will PM an additional piece of information that I don't want to post publicly. Just for the record, there is some login bug related to me having multiple board memberships under the same account. Because of that, I'm unable to log in to the ProBoards support site or (I believe) file reports. I haven't tried in a few months so maybe I'll trot over later today and see if I still have the bug.

Hmmm, looks like this software is compromised. I just got redirected in the middle of this response, to PornHub of all things o.0 At work. Insertion of script into function calls is the work of hacking. ProBoards lol. Sure we don't wanna migrate the forum to a better software? Maybe my idea wasn't so..........................

Just want to chime in and note that I have trouble with the div BS as well all the time. Mainly, for me the problem is that it messes up spoiler tags A LOT.
It's gotten so bad that I now always write responses with spoiler tags in BB code mode. But when I forget to change the editor, it's always messed up.
If there is a way to fix this, it would be much appreciated.

If there is a way to fix this, it would be much appreciated. I've tried a few things, but I'm unable to figure out what causes this weird DIV thing. I believe it's a problem with the WYSIWYG editor, specifically, since I never have any problems with using straight BBCode - of course, there's no insight into that as it's entirely on the ProBoards side. There might be a plugin interferring, but I have yet to figure out which one it might be. I thought I had the culprit with some javascript that helped with copying/pasting text into the editor, but that didn't turn out to be the problem. I'll keep looking, I might ping people to test/report if/when I make some progress.
