I don't personally like the suggestion that Merrill is autistic, even a high-functioning one. It adds some unfortunate implications to the romance.

As for asexual ... eh. She seems pretty enthusiastic about the subject of sex.

Do I need to spell it out? Many people find the romance a bit creepy due to the perceived age and maturity difference between Merrill and Hawke; her having ASD sure doesn't help matters.

I don't have a problem with people with ASD. I have a problem with the implication that Merrill is autistic.

Honestly, I think people are a little too quick to see themselves in fictional characters. Often their interpretations are way off base.

As someone with Aspergers, I never even considered whether or not Merrill was on the spectrum until it was brought up here.

Personally I don't think she is, but I can understand why some people might look at her various eccentricities and perhaps think so. Still, I don't see how it would negatively impact the romance or provide unfortunate implications.

Why would it matter if Hawke romanced Merrill and she was autistic?

I'm glad she stopped wearing that weird lipstick she had in Origins.

I do wonder if Sera would like Merrill if she found out that she got kicked out of her Dalish clan. Probably wouldn't be all that chill once she found out why though. 

I imagine Sera would be conflicted, because on the one hand Merrill is terrifying and elfy and believes things that don't make any sense (to Sera)....... on the other hand, she's very cute.  Merrill would initially try to  befriend Sera, then be puzzled by her and possibly a little miffed. Like a milder version of her relationship with Fenris.

Worth noting though that Merrill is quite a bit older than Sera, too. Doesn't seem like it, but by the end of Inquisition Merrill's got to be, what, in her late twenties?

Merrill's minimum age is circa as Fenarel's, Tamlen's and the Warden's: ~18, in the Origins, I guess. And as Carvers (9:11) age.
