well, you missed several pages of rather interesting readings from gervaise21
plus a couple of obligated 'I don't like Anders' comments, plus comments defending Anders some new fan-art postings, aka. the usual
and don't ya worry, we have as far as I know not blown up another Chantry
Interesting how?
OH those people. Well, I guess they were lucky I was not here then to answer. Muhaaa!
New fan-art.......was any of it....naked Anders fan-art..
Damn! Well, I guess we need to arrange one then. character analysis and such, it's quite interesting to read
Meh, there's always people who're going to hate one character only to shower another with love...I've learned not to care to much about that lately
Most of them involve Hawke x Anders, some 'Justice' powered Anders...other Anders fan art
speaking of fan art, I found this one earlier this week I've no idea if it's meant to be Anders (since I can't find the artist) but it sure looks like him (more of a Tevinter vibe imo.)

TY Cat.....and btw LOVE your new Avatar. How interesting? From many views! Very good characterisations, metas from Gervaise... Plus of course the usual hate-comments, but not too many. No naked Anders art... No more firework. (If the conversations don't count as explosive...) ... Thank you!

With apologies to Bob Dylan but I thought Anders deserved a song for his freedom movement.
How many roads must a mage walk down Before you call him a man? How many seas must a white dove sail Before she sleeps in the sand? Yes, and how many times must tranquil be made Before it’s forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind The answer is blowin' in the wind
Yes, and how many years can the Chantry exist Before it is washed to the sea? Yes, and how many years can some people exist Before they're allowed to be free? Yes, and how many times can the Divine turn her head And pretend that she just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind The answer is blowin' in the wind
Yes, and how many times must a mage look up Before he can see the sky? Yes, and how many ears must one woman have Before she can hear people cry? Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til she knows That too many mages have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind The answer is blowin' in the wind

The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind The answer is blowin' in the wind Oh, yes! This is good! We spoke before about Justice, and what happened to him. I wrote a little story about Anders and my reaver/berserker Hawke, who wanted to understand and help him. (Hepler would call it "enabler" story, I call it supportive). (Maybe I'll regret to post, sorry for the English... and this is rather a theory than a fic.) "Under that scruffy exterior, you've got a soft heart" (A duel, a fever dream and some conclusion...)
Chapter 1:The Duel 9:34 Dragon – Kirkwall
It seemed it will be a long fight. The Arishok was big, strong and experienced. Reinhardt smaller, but also muscular, and quick. They circled, tried each other. How much time has passed? Reinhard didn’t know how serious his injuries were and seemed the bloody giant is tireless. But he wanted to finish it already, he felt he could not stand for long.
The Qunari attacked. Reinhardt dodged the blow, and the giant lost his balance. Hawke relieved for a moment, and made a mistake: instead of an immediate counter-attacking, he looked at where he assumed Anders. And the Arishok charged again. His sword pierced his side. Now, or never, Reinhardt knew . He howled as the pain permeated him and nourished the anger. His eyes were in blood and the pain converted into rage and power. The rage filled him, and he embraced the rage.
The mass around him, the Viscount’s hall, Anders’ terrified gaze...everything faded before him in the blood veil, nothing else was seen except the target. He did not feel pain anymore. He was the devastation. His muscles tensed as he rushed his opponent, and smashed the Qunari stomach. The Arishok staggered, but he did not die. The big bastard tried to get up and to strike back. But Reinhardt struck again. And again. With each stroke, he became stronger and stronger and the Arishok's every injury had fed his power. He felt unstoppable. Bloodthirsty. He raged. Then ... ended.
The big bastard lay on the ground. He pointed to Reinhardt and coughed "One day, we shall return" .
Reinhardt just stood, and as if waking up from a dream, he looked around. Everyone celebrated his victory, but he didn’t see anyone but Anders, who tried to heal him. His body was crushed, but he smiled at him: "I’m okay, don’t worry love", said his smile.
And the Knight-Commander, who missed the fun, with a forced, hostile smile on her face, declared him to “Champion of Kirkwall”. Seeing the face of the Knight-Commander, he felt satisfaction – well, not that satisfaction, like if she was lying on the floor instead of the Arishok (or beside him), but this also was worth it. He looked around with a proud smirk.
Outward, on the stairs, Reinhardt's legs couldn't keep him up, he staggered.
Anders wrapped his arms around him. "Come, Love, lean on me!"
Chapter 2: The Dream Reinhardt didn't know how much he slept, but it was dark when he suddenly woke up. His body, the bed were soaked with sweat and blood, his feverish dream flashed in his mind. The Arishok’s blade. The pain. The blood. The anger. The ecstasy. The power. His first battle, The fall, The dwarf, The dragon blood. The ritual. The power. The Templars. Justice. Ella. Anders. Justice. Anger.
He already understood it! Reinhardt always wanted to understand and help. And finally, he got an answer. Chapter 3: The Conclusion
Reinhardt sat up excitedly. With the sudden movement, a sharp pain stabbed his side – the fresh wound ruptured. Reinhardt noiselessly swore, but Anders woke up beside him. He looked at him with concern, and gently pushed him back to the pillows. "Lie back, love. You're still feverish", stated. His hands glowed as he started to heal him. Reinhardt sat up again, though this time more cautiously. He took Anders's hand and looked into his eyes. "Don't fear him, My Heart! Don't fear Justice!" He spoke excitedly. "Calm, love… what do you speak about? Did you have a nightmare?" Anders looked at him worriedly and continued. "About Justice?" He lowered his head. "I knew it should never have happened... I'm sorry," he whispered. "Not… or… yes, but it’s not like that, don’t worry, it’s good!" He talked fast and squeezed his hand "Listen to me! Perhaps I can help… with Justice." "You? How?" Anders wondered, and put his hand to Hawke’s forehead. "I know it sounds crazy… I’m not even a mage, but I suppose I understood. At least... something. Just listen… I don't know, where I to start… Perhaps… So, you told me, you think, your anger corrupted Justice, and now, you fear him and try to hold him back. But after that... incident… in the Fade... you said you felt, how he feels in the mortal world, trapped in your body..." "I’ll never forget that moment. I … I didn’t want to attack you, to hurt you. But Justice… I just wanted to stop him… and it was over. And I accused you...." The warrior took his face in his hands. "Look at me. It was not Justice’s fault, not your fault. It was me. I said you: I wanted to trick that demon, but the truth is that it tricked me. I was not able to resist. I was not myself. I… I should have told you a long time ago, but I was not able... I was ashamed to admit." "Did you..." Anders looked at him horrified. "No", Hawke answered quickly, "course not, what I said about Feynriel, is true, he went to Tevinter, and I killed the sloth demon. I just… almost let it possess the boy. When I realized what I did… I hurt you… for… nothing. I thought about many times, I can’t forget it. I saw my weakness, and it frightened me. This is the Harrowing?" "In the Fade, it’s similar, but behind your powerless body, the Templars wait for a sign to killing you. And you know that." The faint blue light broke through Anders’ skin. "Sorry." Reinhardt leaned over and kissed him. Anders turned away. "No! I can't control Justice." He wanted to stand up, but the warrior didn't let him. What if I'll turn against you?… Again? I’m a---" "You’ll not. This is different from what was in the Fade, I feel. Let me explain, what I think. It’s about your memory now, your old pain – that was about Feynriel and a demon. Justice thought he’s in danger. Justice tried to protect him – yes, against me." He took a big breath and continued. "And he was right about it, I know. I was not myself at that moment. But now, nobody threatens you. Justice will not turn against me. I’m not in danger. Don’t worry, love, don’t turn away, come closer!" The mage shook his head. "You always see the best in me... but I’m not what you want to see in me, not anymore." He sighed, but the blue glow faded. "I didn’t tell you everything. About my escape from the Wardens. A Templar, from Kinloch Hold, followed me and joined the Wardens to watch me, and catch me. Justice and me, we’re merged already. Rolan, the Templar convinced them I’m a danger. I had to run away again. And they persecuted me. Again. Templars and Wardens. They got me, I fought. I bleed from 1000 wounds – and then ... everything was dark. I saw only flashes of a massacre I did. It was a rampage, madness – Justice… I killed them all… Killed? No… I ripped them apart. When I was myself again, I… No… I was never myself after this. I’m an abomination. I know." Anders looked up at Reinhardt's eyes. "Now, you know too." To his surprise, Reinhardt wasn't frightened ... on the contrary ... he was thrilled. He felt it – and he was right! "This is the point, where I think, I can help… maybe. I hope." Added. "Just listen to me! I’m not a mage, and I don’t have any experience or knowledge of the spirit possession. But that feeling is familiar to me… yes, yes, probably not exactly this feeling, but similar to my first experience... Listen… I just started to learn my skills, when in a battle I lost in my rage. I don’t even remember, what happened. Just the bodies, and the massacre. We won, but I was scared. I wasn't able to use my skills for a time. I thought I’ll lose myself in the blood rage. And then I remembered my trainer’s words: Embrace your rage, it’s your best friend in the battle, a part of you, just like the dragon blood. Control your rage, respect the power, but don’t be afraid – because the fear will tear apart you, consume you." Anders' eyes widened. "Did you say---" "Yes, I did. You and Justice, already one, yes? So, embrace your Justice part! It sounds crazy yes? I said… But he will not just disappear. I think you can decide: you'll fear him, fight him or accept him. He's a part of you. You can’t fight against yourself – without hurting yourself. But you can control yourself!" "But I can’t, you saw, not once." "I saw, you lost in your anger, just like me. So: let’s control it. Remember, you said, you're afraid, your anger turned Justice into Vengeance – I'm not sure, but... if it can happen... the opposite can also happen... then turn him back! Control your anger!" "I wish it would so simple! You don’t understand!" "Then let me understand! Explain to me, why not? And what’s your solution? To fear yourself in your whole life? Kill yourself? Rather than try to live in peace with yourself? To suppress Justice’s sound in your head? But you fear he will suppress your voice, and takes over you… You said, in the Fade, you understood what he feels in the mortal world – trapped in your body… If you want to suppress his voice, he will not want to break out and take over you? If you fight him, he will not fight you? And who will win this fight? What do you want? Let me understand! Perhaps I’m not right, but one thing is sure: I don't want to lose you."

I wrote a little story about Anders and my reaver/berserker Hawke, who wanted to understand and help him. (Hepler would call it "enabler" story, I call it supportive). Yes I think Anders has been rather influenced his Circle upbringing and that is why thinks badly of himself and the need to battle Justice. I don't believe Justice ever did become Vengeance, as I've explained earlier in this thread. Of course that applies to a friendship relationship. Rivalry can be very disturbing, particularly if forced to fight the mages, but to my mind Justice is still himself with Anders suppressing him, which must have been awful for the spirit considering what Anders was forcing him to do. If anything could turn him that would be it. I should imagine being able to fight Meredith at the end must have come as something of a relief.

Okay to return the favour, please find a small sample of the opening to my own fan fiction. When the hermit returned from collecting herbs on the hillside he found a child hovering nervously before the entrance to his cave. He was a sad faced young lad, not more than ten years of age.
“My mama’s sick,” he informed the hermit. “She’s taken to her bed and is burning with fever but Rufus said you might help, like you did for him last year.”
“Of course,” he agreed. “Take me to her.”
The child led him down into the valley where his home was in the village of Greenglades, a collection of wooden and stone huts around a broad expanse of grass where the villagers would gather for meetings and festivals. They walked unobtrusively along the track towards the child’s home, passing a small gathering of mothers and children around a young, fair haired elf dressed in an outfit of alternating black and white. As the hermit reached the child’s home, the elf started to play a pipe in a merry, dancing tune.
The mother was drenched with sweat and semi-conscious but it was a simple infection that the hermit had no problem in countering, soothing her body with healing magic as he motioned his hands over her. All the while the child watched on with wonderment in his eyes, which changed to a broad smile as the woman opened her eyes.
“Thank you,” the mother said on reviving. “What do we owe you?”
“Your thanks and seeing you well again is payment enough,” he replied.
“Maker bless you for your kindness.”
The hermit gave a slight smile in return and left the happy family to enjoy the moment. He wondered how the woman would feel if she knew he was one of the most hated people in Thedas, outcast and friendless. His only reason for being in the area at all was this was once his home. He had returned there, hoping to find his family, only to discover they had been lost to the Blight many years before. Yet some of the villagers from his time had survived and this prompted him to settle nearby and be of use to them when he could. It gave him some purpose in life and a fragile link to a lost innocence, before the day when he had come into his magic. There were times he wondered if the Templars had been right and he was cursed by the Maker, his life seemingly an endless succession of losing all those he cared about or them abandoning him.
He stopped in the shadow of the blacksmith’s forge to watch the scene on the green. The elf had exchange his pipe for his pure melodic voice that was raised in song as he encouraged his audience to join him in a lively jig, clapping his hands in time with the music and spinning this way and that. The hermit recognised the song as Andraste’s Mabari, a popular folk tune from his childhood and while it lasted he lost himself in the music, remembering a time when he had danced on this green with his friends. As the music ended, he was recalled the present with sigh.
“Thank you, my good people, but now I must away,” declared the elf. “Maker be with you.”
“Do you believe in the Maker?” said a young girl.
“We were told elves have their own gods,” said another.
“Is that so?” the elf smiled. “You must be thinking of the Dalish but even they know there is a creator of the world. The thing is not everyone believes in the Orlesian idea of the Maker. I don’t myself.”
“Then what do you believe?” challenged one of the mothers.
“I believe in the Wellspring, the Maker of Divine Victoria. She might be in far off Val Royeaux now but at heart she is a daughter of Ferelden.” He gave a grin. “I think I have time for another story, so gather round.”
He walked slowly among the gathered company.
“Many years ago, when the Divine was just a simple Chantry sister, she lived in Lothering at the time of the Blight. One night she had a terrible dream. Darkness impenetrable was creeping across the land, swallowing up everything that was beautiful and good and it was accompanied by a terrible sound of a frightful monster. Just as the darkness covered the last rays of sunlight and she felt smothered by it, she woke up. She went into the garden of the Chantry and there in the corner was a rose bush that had long been thought dead but that morning there was a beautiful rose. Then in her soul she felt the Maker speak to her: “Even in the midst of darkness there is hope and beauty, have faith.” That was the day that the Hero of Ferelden came to Lothering and she knew that it had been a sign from the Maker that here was hope and that she should help her in her fight. Together they defeated the Arch-demon and later she helped another hero of the Maker, the Herald, heal the sky and defeat the bringer of darkness. Now she sits on the Sunburst Throne and continues to give hope to all those who once had none, in the name of the Maker.”
He started to sing softly. “The Maker is with us through joy and through pain, He’s there in the sunlight, the wind and the rain, He’s there with the heroes that heeded his call, The light of our freedom, the Wellspring of all.” He bowed with a flourish. “My gift to you, dareth shiral.”
The hermit was briefly overcome with emotion and tears slowly welled up and ran down his face. Could it be true, could there be hope even for him? His reverie was broken by the sound of a slow handclap and a scornful voice.
“A pretty tale indeed for children but wholly untrue, although naturally this heretic elf would support the heretic Divine who has given him leave to walk among us, just as she has the workers of magic. All those from whom the Chantry once sought to protect us.”
All heads turned in the direction of the voice to see a newcomer to the village, whose arrival had gone unnoticed and appeared to have only just alighted from his horse. He was cloaked and booted for travel with two companions still mounted, one of whom held his horse.
“Still, this elf may be thankful that I have other more pressing matters to deal with,” he declared at he walked closer. “I am Ser Albricht and I received a message that a wanted felon may be found here. Where is Ruben Small?”
“Here, my lord.” A villager approached him. “Your notice promised a reward?”
“Indeed, if the felon is apprehended with your assistance; you sent the message that brought me here. Where is he?”
“There,” the man pointed across the company directly at the hermit.
The hermit felt a moment of panic and started to back away, preparing to flee. Before he could do so, Ser Albricht produced a long tube and aimed it at him. It fired a jolt of energy that enveloped and paralysed him, so that he fell to his knees.
“Excellent,” smiled Ser Albricht. “I’m glad to see that the smuggler who sold me this was not lying. I have to hand it to the Qunari, they know how to leash mages.” He glanced at his companions. “Chain him.”
I must not give way, I must not give way. The hermit repeated over and over in his mind. Whatever befell him he would not allow the force within him to take control, certainly not when surrounded by the villagers.
“Where are you taking him?” It was the voice of the elf. “That is no concern of yours,” replied Ser Albricht. He adjusted the power on the leash to allow the hermit to be roughly hauled to his feet and his assistants started to lead him past the villagers back to their horses.
“I rather think it is,” asserted the elf. “What has he done to merit such treatment?”
“He is an abomination, a monster that committed atrocities in the Freemarches, including the destruction of the Chantry in Kirkwall. I am fulfilling the contract for his capture issued by the Prince of Starkhaven.”
“This is Ferelden not Starkhaven. He should be taken to Bann Sighard of Dragon’s Peak, or to the King in Denerim. You have no authority here.”
Ser Albricht threw his cloak over his shoulder to reveal the symbol of the Templar order.
“This is the only authority I need.”
“The Order was disbanded by the Herald of Andraste. You act illegally and your treatment is unjust.”
Ser Albricht stepped towards him and struck him across the face, sending him reeling to the ground.
“I serve the Maker and answer to no earthly ruler let alone an upstart elf that should still be inside an alienage. Know your place knife ear.”
With that he strode to where his companions waited and took out a small vial of blood that he held up. It briefly gleamed and he nodded with satisfaction. Mounting his horse, he walked it back towards the villagers and tossed a jingling pouch towards Ruben.
“The phylactery confirms that it is indeed the abomination, Anders. You have served the Maker well.” Then he turned the horse and rode out of the village after his companions.
Anders, yes that was the name I was given by my captors the first time I was taken from here. Not my true name. I have no name for I am not that person anymore. He stumbled along, every time his pace slackened a jolt on the chain forced him forward but movement wasn’t easy within the constraints of the Qunari leash as it applied a constant degree of pain that made his limbs tremble. He suspected this was deliberate on the part of his captor and that he wanted him to suffer.
“Why don’t you just kill me?”
“And have to haul your decomposing body all the way back to Starkhaven? Not a prospect I relish. Besides the contract was quite specific that the Prince wants you delivered alive, so I imagine he has something special planned for you. Of course he didn’t state in what condition so that leaves plenty of scope for me to amuse myself on the journey.” He gave a nasty smile. “I still have the branding iron you know.”
A cold stab of fear passed through Anders. His greatest fear had always been to be made tranquil. Surely, though, with Justice within it wouldn’t work? Ser Albricht seemed to read his mind for he continued.
“Does it even work with abominations, though? I suppose it could be interesting finding out. Still, a tranquil wouldn’t really care what I did to him would he? I want you to feel everything.”
Just to make his point he made a small adjustment on the leash and pain shot through Anders. He fell to his knees but the horses kept going and he was dragged along the ground, while Ser Albricht sniggered at his discomfort.
“It’s a long way to Starkhaven,” he reflected with a cruel smile, “A long, long way.”
Anders had barely staggered back to his feet when he caught a glimpse of a flash of white out of the corner of his eye and heard a feline scream. Immediately after this the tension on the chain was released as the rider holding it was forced to drop it in order to try and control his bolting horse. The second rider was also inconvenienced in a similar way, whilst Ser Albricht’s horse reared in panic as a gigantic white spotted cat landed on its back on top of its rider and he toppled back hauling on the reins, pulling the horse over on top of him. The cat leapt clear and then jumped back in, retrieving the leash in its jaws and racing into the brush at the side of the path. Anders saw his chance as the horse scrambled back to its feet and raced away. His tormentor was not moving and either unconscious or already dead but he was taking no chances. He quickly wrapped the chain around Ser Albricht’s neck and hauled on it until he felt the bones crack. Then he searched his body for the key to his shackles. There was still no sign of the other two riders as he rubbed his wrists after releasing them. He could still feel the influence of the leash over him and wondered where the spotted cat had gone. If the other two returned he would be powerless to use his magic against them. The forest seemed quiet and peaceful for the present and he wondered if he should return to his cave and hope that after putting sufficient distance between him and the leash it would no longer affect him.
There was a rustle from the undergrowth and then to his surprise the elf from the village appeared on the path and looked to be breathing heavily as though from exertion. He was holding the leash, examined it briefly and pressed a button. Anders immediately felt the force field release him and gave a sigh of relief.
“Good, I’m glad I worked that out right,” the elf said. “Hello, I’m Ellas."

About Justice/Vengeance: I don't think either, I think, the situation is more complicated. In Awakening, he wanted to take avenge for the villagers, later for Kristoff... I'm also sure, the mortal world, presented him with challenges — as Anders' emotions, and memories as well. Kristoff's memories were dead memories, datas – but he had still problem to understand some of them... and Anders is vibrant, emotional, passionate. I would compare him to Cole, in Asunder and even in Inquisition. He killed desperate people to help them... And while Rhys helped them to understand the mortals – he still tried to kill the wounded soldier in Inquisition. Solas calls him spirit, Vivienne calls him Demon... The Circle, the Andrastian religion simplifies the spirits/demons, And yes, Anders is very much thinking like them – while more flexible than Vivienne, probably because he's a spirit healer. Reinhardt also knows about spirits/demons as an Andrastian – naturally a bit more, than a common non-mage... because of Malcolm. So: an Andrastian Circle Mage... But his knowledge, naturally, lesser, because he never experienced. He could only rely on Anders' narration, and maybe as much as he heard from Merrill, his father and from some books of Malcolm library (he always wanted to understand the magic, to help Bethany... and perhaps he was a little envious that Bethany had inherited the Gift). But Merrill's thinking makes him believe, that the Chantry and the Circle is not right about the demons/spirits as well – and this gives him hope, that Anders also not entirely right about Justice. (He's believer, but not religious – how he could, when the Chantry calls Bethany: "apostate", but Bethany has true faith – so if the Chantry lies about this, and stigmatize Bethany, maybe the Chantry lies about many thing as well – Reinhardt as teen, and his doubts only strengthened with the time.) * I believe, the rivalry "helps" to turn Justice a demon, and draws Anders to be suicidal.

I LOVE it! I can imagine it happens after Kirkwall, if he's alone.

Just for flavour, this is the cat in the story. Is that a snow leopard? Anders being rescued by a big kitty (shapeshifter) is kinda adorable. Mr. Wiggums approves.

He had this rescue fantasy in MoA, so I just played around with it a bit. Ellas is an already established character of mine with the snow leopard as his alter ego, so I realised he would be ideal as the saviour.

What a lovely little story. I like how in this one all the gang stay in touch and Fenris is positive about his friends. I'm all for happy endings, particularly where Anders is concerned, although I have to admit having replaying DA2 I do find them the best overall bunch of companions. They are of course always loyal to me. I work hard at relationships. I was having some interesting little reflections. First was about the scene at the beginning of Awakening where the monarch arrives to see the Hero of Ferelden. Whilst Mhairi doesn't recognise them immediately, once she does she joins everyone in kneeling to the monarch, except for Anders. Is he too concerned about the Templar standing at the side of them, does he not understand the niceties of court protocol or does he just not want to show deference? The second is the meeting with Flemeth on Sundermount. She has an interesting exchange with Anders. He comments he doesn't know exactly what she is. She queries why he thinks he should. He says because he is a mage (or something like that) and she responds "Of course." Most of the others get a bit more of an evaluation by Flemeth, particularly Fenris, or some advice at the end of the meeting but that is it for Anders. I wonder about that "Of course". It doesn't sound like she is being condescending and I wondered is that brief response because she knows all too well what Anders is? When you think about it, there is not a lot of difference between the two of them and their spirit partner, particularly as Mythal was originally the elven goddess of justice.

Yes, this is also a thing I realized, and love about him. He's not kneeling. I think, FleMyth knows/feels? It's my theory as well, that Mythal (the original) possessed of Spirit of Justice, and when "they killed Mythal", the spirit already identified themself as 'Mythal'(as well) – or if we think, the ancient elves are spirits, and they created to themselves a physical body, like Cole –popular opinion– she was Spirit of Justice. This is supported by Leliana's story about Flemeth, the Witch of the Wild, and Flemeth also said, she has regrets – okay, the first is "just" a legend (but we know, behind many legends are more or less truth), and that regret can be many things... for example the deal with the spirit, the legends deal (Flemeth cried for justice – and it ended in a massacre: seems they –Flemeth and the Spirit: Mythal/Justice– lost the control over themselves, it reminds me Anders' short story and Ella) ...Theory...

When you think about it, there is not a lot of difference between the two of them and their spirit partner, particularly as Mythal was originally the elven goddess of justice. Me too, which makes it even harder for me to decide who my character(s) romance, I mean...they all deserve happy endings But I like the idea of the companions remaining friends who barge in on each others life on a daily basis, and the other person just going along with it because they've known them for so long and can't imagine it any other way (besides, I'd like to think Carver/Bethany would be the best uncle and aunt ever )
-- I've thought about that as well, I do think Anders is more concerned with Rylock standing there, after all he almost looks ready to bolt but knows it'll backfire on him if he does, so he stays. Hm...know what I also always wonder? Rylock's accusation about Anders being 'a murderer', she can't have known about those templars at the Vigil being killed by darkspawn...so what 'murder' is she accusing him of?
and I love any conversation Flemeth has with any character, she's old and wise...and yet acts senile and crazy at times as well. Her exchange with Anders is indeed an interesting one, but I do agree with you that Flemeth (or perhaps Mythal) senses something inside him that she knows only too well, making her give this response.

Rylock's accusation about Anders being 'a murderer', she can't have known about those templars at the Vigil being killed by darkspawn...so what 'murder' is she accusing him of? Didn't they actually catch him at Amaranthine? So perhaps they sent word (by raven?) that they had caught up with him and were on their way back. So if Anders is standing there with no Templars may be Rylock is assuming he must have killed them. She definitely wasn't prepared to forget about him even after he is conscripted into the Wardens.

I always enjoy using the 'I never liked templars much anyway' line after dealing with her...at least, my Tabris used that line I mean, sure...she met some good templars, but after having a rather heated discussion with Greagoir about what she called 'his incompetence at doing his job' she has rather mixed views about them. (Plus I imagine she saw templars every now and then coming into the alienage to take away an unfortunate elven child with magic, which probably didn't help improve her views of them )

Yes, as I know, they escorted him to the Vigil's Keep, from Amarantine (harbour?) To be honest, I wouldn't condemn him, if he had tried to escape again, even if he should resist, even if violently, because of probably the Templars wouldn't agree, he should be free, and just escort him to a safe place and let him go, I'm sure. Perhaps, when the Darkspawn attacked them, he saw his chance, but he did not kill those Templars, just was not that enthusiastic to help The Templars? One year solitary confinement was the last punishment before, what for he could hope? But he was convincing enough, that not he did (it's not about he said "Err I didn't do it" – rather his reaction to Rylock accusation when she arrived with King/Queen of Ferelden) "Never mind. They would not believe me." He was hopeless. It convinced me.

Another favourite thing in Awakening. Very interesting to meet him after DA2, and consciously watch his reactions and listen him.
