And now that I've mentioned that cursed city, I think that if they want to stick with the latter name so fervently, they better make it so that the name change is more recent (as in, post-Trespasser recent). In that case the name change would have to be because of events post-Trespasser and there is nothing significant until the latest comic when the name had already been changed. Apart from the antiquity of the name, which is something that allegedly matters to Tevinter, there is also the fact that in the comic series by DG, which was set just before the events of DAI, the city was still called Qarinus. It was the explanation for the name change that makes me nervous about what else they may alter because people on their team find it confusing.

I'm aware of the general reputations of the DLCs, but I can't read minds, so I don't know what any given individual means when they say "the worst one". I was being perfectly serious. And as far as I can see, the problems with the DLCs had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with how they were written. At least, my own criticisms are unrelated. cool. but i was referring specifically to your comment about the main game sucking. that's what threw me off. Oh. Yeah it sucks.

A woman wrote Oghren? Surprising. I figured most would be turned off by his concept.

I wish we could see Oghren and Isabela talking about dirty stuff, though I find it more likely that she would be annoyed by his advances.

I really don't care who the writers are, seeing is believing. I would like DA to go back to it's dark roots and serious story that Origins was. I don't want characters to be making jokes every other line of dialogue, quipping with their eye rolling one-liners. The sarcastic writing has gotten out of hand for BW. Until the game releases I will still remain skeptical. There's already people at BW that believes the story of DA is about family, inclusion, and butterflies. But in reality DA was about war, racism, and dragons.

Team looks good overall. If they have all written characters i like and some that are meh to me.
I would think that Mary Kirby would have to be involved as she is a major lore expert for DA when Gaider left.

Yeah, my favourite quest in Inquisition was the one where we met that inclusive mixed multiracial family of butterflies.
And every time they opened their mouths, they spewed out even more diverse butterflies, and the people of White Supremacist Valley drowned in the fluttering rainbow sea of leftist butterflies.

Looks like a solid lineup to me.
I am curious what they are coming up with though. Weekes at the helm is already a good sign, and considering the veteran talent on the team here i'm not necessarily worried too much on this.

I believe the people that can fuck things up are: Sheryl Chee: Leliana is cool, although it's a copy of Liara. From the rest, she didn't write one single interesting character, or at least one that isn't a stereotype. Also wrote crappy Andromeda characters. Watch out for her. Brianne Battye: Wrote the most overrated character in DA, and also worked on Anthem. Courtney Woods: Worked on DA:I's worst DLC and the shitty characters of Andromeda. Luke Kristjanson: Long-time veteran, but wrote the worst character ever on a Bioware game (Liam). Also, Jacob and Kaidan, ugh. The others look really solid. I don't know if I've ever disagreed with a post more than I disagree with this one.

Since the team's discussion focuses on the characters they wrote, it's very hard to judge: I don't think we have any solid concept characters besides some Warden dude and a rough-and-tumble woman. As for locations, I saw something that looked like a field of red lyrium tainted deep mushrooms.
You can do something with that pretty much everywhere. I think the real question is: What is the plot? Can these writers string together a plot? Weekes concerns me because he's not particularly talented with plot: Trespasser as a DLC was fine, but it's the coda of a story that's already written and the plot itself came across as a gigantic idiot plot (no matter our suspicions of Solas, he gets the better of us? No thanks). Here Lies the Abyss was a good short story, but one needs to be able to write an entire story. The Masked Empire I found to be awful, if only because not a single character in the story was remotely someone I was interested in seeing succeed. And judging from the other aspects of Bioware's development, namely Anthem and what the devs talk about, I'm thinking that plot is going to be an afterthought.

Lol "an entire story". Anyone who's attempted both forms knows that writing even a halfway-decent short story is way more challenging than a novel.
But since you ask; Weekes has also written several original fantasy novels totally unconnected to Dragon Age, you can read them if you're so concerned.

Hmm, it truly depends on the writer. I've known several writers who are utterly atrocious at short stories and do decently with longer works. Some people are better suited writing for certain ages.
As for Weekes, like I said, I've read The Masked Empire and it was truly unimpressive. I'm not saying it's the worst thing I've read, but a meteor strike would've improved it greatly.

You can like or dislike Weekes's work, but it's patently ridiculous and obvious concern-trolling to express doubt that a full-time career writer is somehow unable to produce "an entire story", whatever you think that means.
As I said, Patrick has produced several novels besides Masked Empire. An entire trilogy in fact, that is totally unconnected to Dragon Age. Clearly, Patrick is capable of seeing projects to completion and getting them published, which I suspect is more than anyone here can say. Certainly more than I can say.

Well, I'll keep it in mind. However, Weekes's utter failure in writing a compelling tale with The Masked Empire weighs heavily, particularly since its set in the world he's writing in presently. Why on Earth anyone was to be considered rootable is beyond me.

I hope Mary Kirby gets a good chunk to write, she's written the Landsmeet and the 2 branching stories in Inquisition which are probably some of my favorite scenes in the series. Also I pray there isn't much Varric to write, I'd love to see more new characters for her to write.

Maybe she’ll be writing the Crow plot line since she wrote The Wake for DA day? Or at least a crow character like Teia or Lucanis. And since she’s been on DA since the early days I too hope she has a good chunk to write.

Generally speaking, the majority of fans (and critics) enjoyed the Trespasser DLC, which was written by Weekes; sitting at 77% on Metacritic. I'm not here to make claims about Weekes' novelist endeavors, as I've never read them. For players, the only thing that matters is his storytelling ability within a video game structure. I'm willing to see what's he's capable of. Doesnt mean I'm gonna out and out buy the game at launch either. I got Gamefly for that. Honestly, a lot of this just depends on whether or not you liked the works of the aforementioned writers.
