12 days from the end of EA's Q4 2018, a month after release, almost a week in Division 2's launch week, and the only places I can find discounts on "Anthem" are physical copies on Amazon and physical PS4 copies at Walmart. And cdkeys at 35% off, but to be fair they've been offering this discount for quite a while. And the division 2 is already 24 % off there. So I guess it means times are dire at Massive.

And cdkeys at 35% off, but to be fair they've been offering this discount for quite a while. Correct me if I am wrong (no, really, please do) but my understanding is CDKeys is not an authorized reseller themselves, essentially "gray market" so I'd imagine they'd be able to sell it cheaper depending on the cost to acquire the game keys. I'm not certain, but I believe you're correct in that cdkeys is not an authorized reseller.

People are underestimating the appeal for Anthem in Japan right now. And it is important to point out it's uncommon for a western game to surge like that. So that is definitly something that is an X factor to worldwide sales and longevity. The Japanese LOVE fighting robots so it’s not a surprise that Anthem is a hit.

The Japanese LOVE fighting robots so it’s not a surprise that Anthem is a hit. It is the country of mechas and Anthem can be described as a mecha game. That may be part of the appeal. I also think it might be how similar the game is to something like monster hunter, with the grind and all that tied to a narrative. I am curious, how popular are games like destiny or division in Japan?

Kind of funny, before Anthem came out it reminded me of an anime, sort of. I thought it might go over well in Japan.
As for low twitch numbers, that's more indicative of perhaps the real young gamers aren't too into it? I will watch gameplay videos on YouTube but twitch and mixer kind of annoy me. They're eating, playing loud music with their subscriber indicator interrupting. Get off my lawn!

They like mecha so much they have a giant Gundam statue in Tokyo I wouldn't be surprised if we saw classic anime (very likely Gundam, which is an enormous franchise) mecha-inspired Javelins sometime in the future. I certainly won't mind.

At least for me watching someone fight AI gets boring because it becomes about preforming the same things over and over, but with MP games they are more interesting to watch. Aside from near the launch of a single player game, I don't think I personally have seen a lot of people watching streams of it for they see the story and the combat and walk away. Now I could be wrong for I don't do a lot of Twitch surfing, but that is how I see it.

I'm not even remotely surprised.
Also, I'd imagine people are too busy actually playing the game to bother with twitch.

I'm not even remotely surprised. Also, I'd imagine people are too busy actually playing the game to bother with twitch. Judging by my Origin friend list that had 20+ players playing Anthem a month ago, people are busy playing instead of watching Twitch...but they play other games and not Anthem. It's BFV, BF2, NFL, Apex, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, FIFA, etc. In the last week the peak was maybe 4 playing Anthem at the same time. Had an evening where none played it. And it happens often lately that when a player leaves SH, Freeplay or mission, we get no refill. Sometimes even Legendary contracts start with just 2 players and we do half the mission before getting another player (GM2). It wasn't happening a week ago, so either the matchmaking is buggy or the population shrinks. On the bright side - Quickplay brings you into working missions more frequently.

It's a slice of a microcosm but may reflect real world dissatisfaction. No match making algorithm will work if the player base is non existent.
Potentially problematic with "play with friends" was an early theme, here in the BSN. The theme was prophetic or so it appears.

To be honest, I probably wouldn't want to stream it publicly right now either, even though I like the game and am playing it. Too much negativity and hostility on social media right now. My thanks to those who are willing to wade in right now. I've not had any issues finding matches within the actual game though... never get to see the cool suiting up animation you get when it takes a while to find a group (on ps4).

Match-making will work surprisingly well, right down in the 3 digit user numbers. All it needs is a couple of ppl worldwide to connect.

Its about personal interest in watching something online and not being bored. Watching the exact same thing over and over that really doesn't vary doesn't seem to be that interesting as I see it. That is like every game out there ever? Especially the ever popular BR games. I am speaking for myself, I cannot read the minds of everyone on Twitch and I don't claim to understand what everyone is watching and why so I was giving my opinion on why there was a big difference between Apex and Anthem which is that a game that has a stronger focus on PvP is going to probably be more viewed then one that has a stronger focus on PvE unless the PvE game was just released for strategies and tactics don't change that much with a PvE game or even between players.

Reads thread.
Sees people claiming victory over sales numbers.
Sees no one saying that this is proof that the game is good (it isn't proof). Because the game has sold well in a small window, you have a victory?
People, get your selves together. Stop perpetuating boring forum drama that was only mildly entertaining on BSN Prime. This is a looter shooter; they sell well initially, news at 11.
Yes, this is a solid source that shows some sales data for a small window of time. A snapshot. It is close to meaningless, but if some pureheart true believer needs this as a victory, lol ok.

90% of the Anthem subforum is toxic swill aimed at BioWare/Anthem and if you say something positive about the game your "delusional" or "Fanboi !!" so something positive in association with Anthem is going to get amplified a bit but I'm not seeing anytone "claiming victory"...more a sigh of relief that its rough reception didn't doom its immediate future. Alternatively, if reports were it sold poorly, this thread would be 40 pages right now of people here virtually dancing on BioWare's grave It's a good game, it's fun, and I have over 100hrs into it...that's my opinion and it doesn't need sales figures to justify it but it's nice to see something positive associated with BioWare.
