The First Broodmother Archdemon Darkspawn Emissary Dead, dead, mostly dead and... it's insides are currently decorating the back wall. Mostly dead? Can true love bring them back? It's an incredibly long shot, I'm more likely to see someone like Loghain, who can be dead just as often, but I'd like to see Blackwall return. He doesn't have much storywise to offer, but then, there are worse cameos.

Solas, Hawke, Dorian, Varric, the Inquisitor (even if not playable), and any of the DA2 companions, yes even Anders

I would prefer to have all new companions. What I would love to see is some or all of the previous companions from all three games in a pub swapping stories about the Warden, Hawke and the Inquisitor. The thought of Varric and Zevran trading tales just makes me giggle.

If they absolutely had to bring in previous companions, than Dorian, Merrill and Shale. However to be quite honest I'm very weary of Bioware bringing back any of the past companions because I don't want any killed off.
Also, if I even get a whiff that Varric is in the game then it's definite I'm not buying it. I've never been more sick of a Bioware character.

Dorian I think is guaranteed. I'm mostly indifferent to the prospect of Varric in DA4, tbh.

I think people's fears about Varric returning are unfounded. He was the bridge character for Inquisition just as Oghren and Anders were for their respective games. He's also Viscount at this point with his epilogue focusing on him cleaning up Kirkwall with Aveline. Seems like his story is pretty wrapped up.

Dorian- Pretty much a guarantee
Solas - ^
Shale
Stenishok
Valta
Fenris - don't actually like his character much but it would kinda make sense for him to be in the game
Architect - I doubt he's actually dead

I want to turn up to the gates of Tevinter on goatback (?) with Movran. Then dismount. Then throw the goat? I'd feel bad while laughing like a maniac.

It is acccccchhhhhsolutely eeeeeeechenssial that Moch-thhhhhher Giselle makes a ch-rech-turn in the nechst Drachhhgon hhh-age game.
No way I want to listen to dialogue without the feeling that I'm being covered from head to toe in rapidly ejected phlegmy saliva.

Sten, Sandal, and Harding. Shale seems a popular idea and I'm on board with her.
Leliana is my Divine so it makes sense to see her, and I'd like a cameo of her interacting with Sten, but not a massive role.

Lord Otranto - partially because of the Princess Bride vibes and how exuberantly Antivan he is. But also because of how we've been told how great the chevaliers are supposed to be since Origins but so far we haven't had a warrior in our party who uses the fencing/rapier style as opposed to shield or two-handed. He would probably have a new specialization to go with that.
The Architect (and the other darkspawn magisters who are seemingly roaming The Deep Roads)
Movran the Wonder - you could get an Avvar companion from his clan!
Maraas (tal-vashoth guy in DA2)
Abelas
Fenris (unless he joins Solas's side in which case no)

Let them all die and give us new ones. . . . Just kidding (about the deaths, at least), but really, "as few as possible" would be a good guideline. My pick would be Calpernia and Marius, plus either Dorian or Maevaris.

Varric! He's the heart and soul of Dragon Age. Admittedly, it needs a game as witty and cool as DA2 for him to really work, but a man can dream. All the DA2 companions really, especially Merrill and the twins.
Another of many dwarves who should return is Shaper Valta. She was a great character and her story was so good they really shouldn't leave it hanging. Ali Hillis is so much better at playing dwarves than asari.
Also, Hawke as protagonist.

All the DA2 companions really, especially Merrill and the twins. Please NO. I really love Varric (even in DAI) but sorry he already had enough screentime in series. I would also dislike a small cameo. Like Alistair, Cassandra, Cullen, Flemeth, Leliana, Loghain, Morrigan, Teagan he had his time.
By the way i really doubt that Twin will return in any other form than mentioned by text or other NPCs.
After that cliffhanger she will be back.
Not gonna happen. Well i assume that he/she stay dead/trap in the fade.

Having just finished my first playthrough of Inquisition in which I romanced Solas, obvious choice is obvious. But more specifically, I really desperately want it to be _possible_ to convince him of another way to restore his world that doesn't kill everyone else. I want having been his friend or his lover to mean something plot-wise, because it pains me so very much that the romance ended the way it did. It's like, "Hey - if I surprised you with my wisdom, and things weren't always the way you expected them to be, maybe there are other things that don't have to go the way you think it must!" Honestly, I'm not entirely sure why it must involve the rest of the world burning. The elves survived the Fade, if poorly. Why can't there be ways to protect the living from the effects, and then he and the rest of the ancient and perhaps current elves help a) do something about the problematic not-actually-gods and help everyone recover from whatever effects removing the Veil has. I'd also love to see more of Lace Harding.

Honestly I think Solas was deliberately lying to the Inquisitor to make things seem worse then they would be so the Inq et all would have motive to look for that solution in the first place to prove him wrong.

But he's... not good at understanding non-fade-entwined people, so perhaps he can be excused for thinking he needed extra reasons to get people thinking about it.

While I have no problem killing Solas, I believe he will doom himself. When he does his hocus pocus stuff, it backfires banishing himself, but ends up releasing the evanuris for the main character to deal with.

That’s why I’m hoping we can kill him before he commits his genocide.

Just that he has shown some capacity for growth and...stuff. And I'm not saying the Veil coming down won't be *bad* and he knows it...just: A. It coming down likely will unleash the Evanuris. He has no idea how to deal with them. So that's what we are for. B. He is being more metaphorical given what happened to the Elves.
