oh don't get me wrong the man *is* a racist (though perhaps the most interesting example of the breed across fiction). Just that he has shown some capacity for growth and...stuff. I would not say that Solas is a racist, in so much that he is prejudiced. We never see Solas express any type of belief that other races are inferior to the Elves (which would make him racist), but we do so him pre-judge (which is the most basic definition of what it is to be prejudiced) certain individuals according to their race (particularly Bull and the Qunari Inquisitor), as well as show bewilderment when certain individuals (Sera, Varric, a Qunari Inquisitor) do not align themselves with his own preconceived notions of how their race is supposed to act.
Solas could also be categorised as slightly bigoted when it comes to his views on the Qunari and modern Elves (particularly the Dalish).

...I feel like we've had this conversation? Probably should have put it in air quotes but yeah whatever the term you apply to him...and to be fair I was growing less confident of the term as I continued to type that post...the point is that he has 'issues' with other races that he is working past.

From the point of view of the story,we will certainly see Solas but we will also potentially see Sten Maevaris Dorian Iron Bull Fenris
I would like to see Leliana, Cullen, Flemeth, and Alistair because they have all been in the first three, so want to see that streak continue. They could have large or small cameos although I wouldn't mind having Leliana and Cullen as companions (don't shoot me). I those two would represent the former Inquisition and I think there needs to be some connection to the Inqusition in DA4. Cassandra is welcome too, if her Divine duties allow it.
I would like to see Harding as potential companion. And Charter too - maybe Rylen.

Sten...with an opening scene of a Viddathari presenting him with a tray of freshly baked cookies. Don't really have any particular need for any of the old companions/advisers back...especially if we're rolling a new PC...which seems likely.

Especially in Leliana´s case its more than enough screentime.

I’d love for oghren and/or Isabela to make a return, they never tried to make me feel bad when I did something monstrously terribly terrible, especially isabela, plus I love pirates as much as she loves big boats I’d love to have a party with those two in it, their banty wanty would be a sight for sore eyes, or an audio for achy ears, or something like that

I'd really like to see Isabela, Fenris, Dorian, Sten, and Harding, for starters, as characters who I both like and would fit well given the setting and framing of the game, and I'd especially like to see Shale, I need more murderous deadpan golem snark in my life. And Solas, too, of course, but that pretty much goes without saying since he's inextricably tied to the main plot now.

While I have no problem killing Solas, I believe he will doom himself. When he does his hocus pocus stuff, it backfires banishing himself, but ends up releasing the evanuris for the main character to deal with. I really like this idea, that his own hubris will bring him down and everyone else will have to deal with the consequences of his actions.

None. How big is the World of Thedas, that ALL of these people just happen to know each other -and not only that- but be involved in such possibly world changing events? I've heard the theory of six degrees of separation but come on. Return characters are getting beyond a joke at this point.
*IF* the story takes place in Tavinter, then Dorian. Otherwise, NONE! Because they have no business there and are just being shoved into the story for the sake of fan service, which in my opinion, does the character a disservice.

I guess the Tevinter and Qunari, we've met, would make sense. Especially Dorian, maybe Fenris. Stenishok.
And I personally would love to see Varric again, because he is my favorite character in the franchise. Other than that (and I don't expect any of the above to actually make an appearance), I'd like to see new characters.

I'd love to see Shale again, especially since she's apparently already in Tevinter according to Asunder. She's such an interesting character and Geraldine Blecker's voice acting was on point.

If you still rely on slavery, how advanced are you really? So one can't be advanced and a Slaver at the same time? The two are exclusive? Notice my use of the word "rely". Slavery is primitive, in the same way that hunting with a spear is primitive. An "advanced" society like the ancient elves, capable of the kind of magical wonders that Solas (vaguely) describes, shouldn't have needed slaves. What did they do, that couldn't already be done with magic? What were they kept for? Fun? Beisdes, there is no objective measure for "advancement". A society can be advanced in some ways and not in others, and whether or not a society is "advanced" in any particular way is relative to the individual observing the society. So yes, I think the presence of slavery in a society belies a distinct lack of advancement. Either you lack the technology to do away with it without your society collapsing, or you lack the imagination to conceive an alternative.

I don't think the Evanuris *needed* slaves, imo they just wanted to treat servants like property, cause they were assholes. But they still had basically magic internet and stuff. Arlathan was objectively the most advanced society Thedas ever had except in equality and morality.
On topic, I ideally want my main quizzy Adhal Lavellan as a villain protagonist helping Solas set the world on veil fire (or whatever remerging the Fade does), but that sure as fuck ain't happening, so I'm gonna go with, only characters that it makes sense for them to be there. The Divine or the Viscount of Kirkwall wouldn't be free to adventure around Tevinter, etc.

The inquisitor as protaginist.
Given that there are so many options for lelinana and cassandra I count them out for anything big. So I will avoid characters like that that can be doing other stuff to that degree.
Scout harding issabela (even if you give her to the arishok she escapes so she could easily show up again as an LI if hawk didn't romance her.
Fenris
Iron bull There is some variables here since he can die in tresspasser but it is completly optional since your choices will come from dragons keep.
Oghren
Shale
That lady elf in the DA2 dlc (tallis I think was her name)
There are others but that's all I can think of.

I would prefer the only returning character's make sense for the story/setting so no The Inquisitor/Warden/Hawke in any fashion not even a cameo.Granted I've been awol from the series for a long while and haven't kept up with the Series after Inquistion so I can't really speak about the Novels/Comics. Here is my list of returns for DA4 I want.
Solas Flemeth
Divine Cassandra/Vivienne/Leliana
Tevinter Dorian Pavus Fenris Bodahn Sandal
Qunari Stenishok Iron Bull Tallis

Flemeth Divine Cassandra/Vivienne/Leliana First i believe Flemeth is dead and won´t come back. Also didn´t her voice actress Kate Mulgrew say that DAI was the last time for her? Second i really don´t want Divine Victoria back because i am really tired that Leliana is in every DA main games and some of its DLCs. Also why should the orlaisian Divine show up in Tevinter? Makes no sense. So yeah i don´t want Victoria back. To be honest the amount of screentime in Trespasser was fine so no need that she show up in DA 4.
